The water leaking into the MK8 Honda Civic 2006-2011 is a common fault of that model and Mark. It makes the extra luggage or spare wheel compartment unusable. In this video, I figure out a way to fix this issue by using paint lacquer.

Thanks ! had a puddle in bottom of boot. Followed your guide. Boot 100% dry today after a night of heavy rain. I did also run captain toms creaking crack along the top of the spoiler where it meets the glass. All the way across in the gap. That is also an area where leak can happen with the spoiler screws. Worth doing at same time since it doesnt require any extra dissasembly of lights etc.

I have a Type S which I sort out the leak in my boot and the main area where the water enter into the boot is the boot lid around the number plate area on the inside, Where some clips inserted in the metal which get a bit weak and a few unnecessary hole are there too which need bonging up. “Very difficult to work on..Many ppl who have these Hondas 2006-2011don’t know. I had so much water in mines before I sorted it then when I move off or brake I could hear the moving water.

Thanks buddy! This solved my problem and saved me a lot of money! I bought a universal lacquer spray from Halfords. I waited for a dry day, cleaned well with a wheels spray I had, then I applied three coats of this universal lacquer and problem is solved. I had dried the boot with an industrial sponge as well as I could and after a full day of rain I noticed it's still dry. I'll monitor it from time to time but so far so good. Thanks again for sharing this!

Thanks for the video. Not sure if you still have the car, but can you remember how you took off the trim piece at 7:26? Was it just a simple upwards pulling motion to 'unclick' it out of it's position?

I have enjoyed your thorough and lengthy videos of these honda issues. As I have been standing and pondering for weeks over my multiple leaks. My boot tire well went unseen for who knows how long as the black sound proofing stuff that is stuck to the metal turned to goop. If you touch it you can literally smear it and pull it out. I have no idea what this is called, I tried to flatten it out but it is still soft and not hard, can you suggest anything to put over the top to harden it again as nothing can touch it without being covered in black tar or grease stuff
@EducationPineapple

Anything that has been damaged from water to that extent should be torn out. Then fix the issue as shown. If you don't want things banging around then just put an old blanket in there.

Was this because of the two things on the roof? I'm suspecting mine is leaking to some extent, as sometimes the windows arr foggy, even without driving it for a few days. It might be just a slight leak.

It seems there is quite a few people having this issue recently as I noticed a couple of other pretty recent videos on here with this issue and I also have it on the passenger side. I dont know if you know it but there is a Civic forum called civinfo and there is loads of people on there with this issue as well and a lot of people like yourself believe its the seam sealent at the top thats gone and thats where it is getting in. Like you I was not keen on trying bathroom sealant to try and fix the problem so I have tried the Captain Tollys for now to see if that has done the trick as that dries clear. I also brought some Sikaflex SBT+ clear from screwfix and put a bead of that around the rubber grommit for the wiring harness. I actually stripped out my boot to get a better look at where it was leaking in at first I thought it was behind the indicator light so I removed that as well but it wasnt there but I did find the seam sealent there had also cracked and had a hole in it so I filled that in with Sikaflex as well and ran a bead on top of the old seam sealent. I only did this yesterday so I dont know if it has worked yet but if its still leaking I might give the Laquer idea a go so cheers for the suggestion. I hope yours is still leak free!

I would recommend drying the area up as much as possible...wait for a dry spell to super dry it...take off the roof strips...wipe down then clean down with alcohol wipes....spray with slow acting lacquer like described and it should work. If you spray lacquer on top of water filled holes the lacquer cannot penetrate into those holes.

Hello, when I translate "lacquer" in Dutch I get "paint", is it paint?
@EducationPineapple
@EducationPineapple 5 ай бұрын
When you paint a car on bare metal, you place a layer of grey rust proof paint first, then the colour paint (blue on my car), then lastly the lacquer .... the lacquer is the transparent coating that goes on top of paint to protect the paint.

Oj mate not with the lacquer... It will do the job but not gonna fix the problem for years, as the car moves and the body works, the lacquer will simply start to crack with the time and your problem might happen again... But good searching for the leak
@EducationPineapple
@EducationPineapple 2 жыл бұрын
Would that same logic apply to the rest of the lacquer on your car's body? Or do you assume that part of the car has extra movement between the adjoining surfaces? Lacquer, I found, seeped deep into the minute holes, gave extra grip and penetration because of the low viscosity compared with say bathroom silicon, easy and natural on the eye for resale value, and solved the problem 100% since application.
