I'm 14, struggled with anorexia for a while butam now trying to recover (8 months in) . My brain is so food focused and I don't know what to do, I can only think about calories 24/7. I'm finally happy with my body but all I can think of is food, during class, at home waiting till the times that I let myself eat, etc. Other girls don't think about food this much and it drives me crazy, I just want to be thin and happy :/

Probably because restrictions lead to feeling like food is scarce so it’s constantly on your mind (I have the same thing). Kind of like during the hunter gatherers time. It’s a survival instinct. Finding a hobby or being with friends really helps to take your mind off of it. I wish you all the luck and health in the world 🌸

I know a thing or two about nutrition thus it's easy to attest to the quality of her videos of course, even if I didn't though I would've trusted her almost blindly (and there are just like 10-15 people in the world that I'd trust like this!) i used to always think about food despite not restricting. i think it was inherited by the habits of my parents. but, what helped was listening to my body and being present in the things that distract me from food (books, school, work, etc). you 100% have the ability to stop thinking about it, you just have to let yourself be distracted.

I feel like I can either be happy with my body or happy with food. I gain weight when I eat what I want. The only way to keep the pounds off is to restrict what I eat. When my body finally starts to look how I want it to look, my mind feels deprived and I don’t have energy. I don’t desire to be stick thin, but I want to have a flat stomach. How do I reconcile this?
@Edukalebylucie

I totally understand the dilemma. It may be a choice you have to make. However, intuitive eating doesn't mean just eating whatever you want when you want, maybe there is a middle ground you can find between restricting and eating whatever you want?

Your videos are quite literally changing my life right now! I'm just coming to terms with the fact that I still have some disordered eating patterns! I'm 25 now but restricted food when I was 16/17 and made myself miserable. Since then, I thought I'd completely stopped restricting by letting myself eat whatever I want while still being active and somewhat healthy. But this made me realize that(at 6:47) where you say that wanting to be more careful but then giving in and feeling guilty is my biggest form of restriction!! Your videos are really helping me get out of this all-or-nothing diet mindset and finally try to move toward a more holistic and healthy lifestyle. Thank you for making these!!

I started going on crazy, restrictive diets when I was 13. I was a little chubby, but wanted the perfect body. I started binging on junk food after that. All my life I'm either dieting or binging. Nothing in between. I just wanted to be thin and super healthy. I did a lot of research and now my diet consists of intermittent fasting and a whole food plant based diet. When I follow that, I lose weight and feel great! After awhile the cravings for junk food come. I give in, like I just did tonight by ordering 3 party size bags of potato chips, cheese balls and nacho cheese Doritos. How can I stop obsessing for these bad, unhealthy foods that make me feel so awful and gain weight? I haven't been thin in decades. I keep trying to diet. It's just a merry-go-round of the same behavior, over and over. Ugh!
@Edukalebylucie

Strict dieting and restricting can't work long term because it always leads to bingeing. It's better to eat healthy, balanced, yet satisfying and full meals, and the bingeing will happen less and less. Wishing you all the best!

yep, same here. vicious cycle of binging, fasting, eating "normally", then binging again because it's been hard being good for 3-4 days.. Need to break the chain but each time I tell myself "I'll just fast for a day or two to get rid of the calorie surplus, then I'll just eat normally for good". But the change never happens!

Look up intuitive eating - the idea is that if "junk food" is perceived as bad, naughty, off-limits, then it will always hold more power over you; if you give all foods the same moral value and reframe how you think about food (i.e. food with less nutrition value and foods with more nutrition value rather than "good" vs "bad"), and include everything in your diet in moderation, it will be easier to make peace with food
@PetBunnyDebbie
@PetBunnyDebbie 3 жыл бұрын
@@Edukalebylucie It's been 7 months since I posted this. I was not convinced yet that intuitive eating was my best solution. I tried again several more times to diet. Sure it was a healthy whole food plant based diet, since my goal has always been to become "perfectly" healthy. But per usual the cravings came, then came the junk food binges, then the feelings of guilt, failure and depression. I'm so sick of it. Yesterday I actually bought the book, "Intuitive Eating" 4th edition. I'm reading it now. This morning I had many of my favorite junk foods delivered to my apartment. Didn't plan on it but I binged on potato chips and chocolate candy. But this time I don't feel guilty, depressed or like a failure. This is part of the process of habituation. The chips and chocolate are always going to be here from now on. I trust intuitive eating. I'm done with dieting, finally! I imagine I have a few more binges in me as I bring more formerly "forbidden" foods into my apartment. But that's okay. It's part of the process. Also, I decided that I'm going to work on changing one bad behavior at a time. I'm waiting until hungry to eat. I'm not quite ready to stop eating when my stomach is full. That's okay. Right now I feel sick from all the chips and chocolate. I'm really wanting fruit and veggies now. So when I feel hungry again, I will have those.

Lucie, I have a weird obsession, I've talked to a dietician in Australia about it, but I'd love to know your opinion! The thing is, everytime I eat, I think of the nutritional value and not about taste, I've had this for around 3 years, prior to this I never thought of it this way, I ate what I felt was right (intuitively) It's difficult to find that again though, I tell my friends that in the past I ate like an Italian and now I eat like an American (if you know what I mean!) Like when I look at cashews, I think of tryptophan not 'cashews' - And then depending on the level of nutrients in foods, I eat, this doesn't feel right in my opinion but it's difficult to break the habit, chocolate in my mind currently is 'caffeine and insomnia' and thus I don't touch it, and a few years ago I told everyone that when I love a lady the way I love white chocolate, I'll marry her (if the lady wanted to marry me too obviously haha) You ever encountered this? As a nutritionist you probably think of food a lot, do you think of this when you decide what to eat? I'd love to know! Merci pour avoir améliorer ma vie avec tes vidéos aussi Lucie

Hi everyone now I am gonna tell you how I got rid of my food obsession and food addiction and lost 4 kilos in a month. First I wanted to try eating 2000 calories and burning 1000 calories a day. I wanted to try this thinking I can lose weight this way. Actually I did a little. I lost 2 kilos in the first week. But then my body stopped losing weight. And then I started to take pills for hypothyroidism because my doctor told me that my body stopped losing weight because of my hypothyroidism. And I kept taking pills for 2 more weeks and I still take them. Meanwhile I lost only less than a kilo. I wasn't losing weight properly but I had realized something. My calorie intake was cut down unintentionally. I didn't restrict my calorie intake deliberately. But I was eating less. And to sum up I actually did the best thing by eating a big amount of clories at first. And by the way when I started to this, I was sometimes eating some snacks throughout the day. But I was still maintaining my calorie intake. The first days I was barely feeling full after eating 2000 calories. Then I started to feel full enough after eating 1500 calories. Then this became 1300 calories. And now I eat 1200 calories a day. And now I don't have food obsesion or food addiction. I don't think about the food all the time. And I think I overcame my problems. And I hope this helps for the ones who need it.

I think it depends on the situation. If you're in tune with your hunger cues, set times aren't really necessary and you should eat when you're hungry (unless there are obligations, of course.) If not, set time frames to eat within can be a useful tool to let your body relearn to eat + trust hunger/fullness signals

ye but i literally eat like one normal meal a day and the rest is pure junk. i used to restrict quite a lot but this “junk diet” has been going on for a month and a half. i have gained 5.1kg and 11cm on my waist. i look pale i’ve missed a period (i never have) my skin is bad, i don’t get circulation to my fingertips and feet. i often stuff my face until i’m sick or sometimes if i’m not sick i would make myself sick on purpose. is this a form of self harm? why can i just not leave this cycle. how was i so good at restricting. why can everything not just be back to normal. this dumb eating disorder has taken my health and my sanity. it’s taken away all my friends. it’s taken away the liberty of not having to worry. it’s taken over everything. at first it was just a silly diet, but i suppose it always starts that way..

any advice on dealing with gluten and dairy food cravings (bread, pizza, ice cream) if i most likely have celiac disease and am definitely lactose intolerant? it's been really really difficult for me

hey! my situation wasn’t completely the same (I was dealing with cravings when transitioning to a vegan diet), but at least for dairy products, there are a lot of pretty good alternatives! When you get a craving, I would just say get a dairy free alternative. Also, if you want a pastry or a cake but most ones at the store are made with dairy, try making your own! You’ll enjoy eating them more because of the work you’ve put into them haha

This literally comes from food additives. There is a relatively new phenomena called 'hangry' It's a quick hunger Spike where if you don't get something right now, you turn ugly from sudden blood sugar drop. It literally makes food the center of your life. You're always thinking about it. This comes directly from food additives. The first time I did this, I didn't call it French. Mostly because I learned the bulk of it for my Irish grandmother. But the truth is, the French model is the best. You will lose weight so fast it'll make your head spin. Your health will return. Happiness comes back. Also your sensibilities Insanity. Whatever they're putting the food, is designed to drug you. And it works. Avoid the drugs, and the rest will follow.

None of this advice was usefull for me. I do restrict. Other times I eat what I want and dont restrict. I do regularly eat healthy fresh foods. But can also go indefinitely on nothing but sweets and junk all day long, day after day.Hungry, not hungry, it doesn't matter. The gratification of eating the poor food choice does NOT subside over time, but instead grows. "You'll get tired of e eating sweets after awhile." Is not accurate at all!. It actually becomes habitual to eat poorly. Portion sizes grow overtime as well. Making poor food choices snowball wheather i restrict or not. This isn't bc I've never had(or currently) a regular routine of eating healthy. Surely I'm not alone in this?? I agree with the commenter who pointed out this method is akin to telling an alcoholic trying to get help to drink as much and as often as they want. Dangerous.

This video just ain't it.. I feel like she doesn't really know how a food obsession feels like. I restricted and also not restricted for long periods of time. We can eat ice cream every single day for years. We're obsessed. You don't understand that. I used to (while not restricting) eat a huge nutella jar every single day for years. We don't get sick of it, a heroin addict is not gonna stop using just because it's available restriction-free, they'll just use more and more.

I don't agree with this advice. I gave myself permission to eat any and all foods. Ended up binge eating and gained 20 pounds in a year. A year later, I still binge. Turns out I have ADHD and hormonal issues. My point is there are other reasons for binge/overeating and food obsessions that have nothing to do with restriction.
