Yeah that's true, although I do think it's fine to start doing small preventative things in your late teens. But by that I mean, exfoliating and focusing on hydration and sunscreen. I'm almost 28 and started retinol at around 24, which I think is a decent age considering collagen production starts to go down in your mid twenties. But, 10 year olds? Heck, even 16 year olds, worrying about aging? Their skin is already so good!! (Excluding acne, which is quite difficult to deal with)
@chiefpurrfect83898 ай бұрын
Anti-aging skincare doesn't do all that much to someone's skin if it's already visibly aged. You are supposed to start *before* you get wrinkles etc. That being said, people are taking it wayyy too far these days and it needs to be talked about, especially when you see literal children worry about it. All someone who cares for this sort of thing needs is a healthy, reasonable skincare routine: wear sunscreen before leaving the house (especially during the summer months), cleanse (just lukewarm water and maybe a bit of soap depending on your skin), hydrate and exfoliate depending on your skin's needs. That's 4 products max and you can find decent ones pretty inexpensively these days. You can also make them at home using everyday ingredients and minimal effort.
@TheMouseandTheWall8 ай бұрын
@@chiefpurrfect8389Or just wash your face with water. Depends on your skin. My skin became so much better after I dropped all those gentle products and started just using water and showering as normal.
@Cristyface8 ай бұрын
@@chiefpurrfect8389Oh I agree! I guess it all varies, right? I hadn't started to get wrinkles yet, but I figured it was a good age to begin preventative measures right before I hit my mid twenties. I suppose the point I was trying to make was: anti-aging prevention is good, but don't take it to the extreme where you're doing it so young you're more likely to do harm than good, especially because you can go overboard with actives. Children should be allowed to just have fun and not worry about that stuff! I think for kids, just getting them to wash their face and put on sunscreen should be enough, and that's honestly mostly for health reasons since you don't want sun damage to accumulate too bad.

My husband is 7 years younger than me and no one looks at us funny or assumes we’re not the same age. A lot of my friends didn’t make it to 37. Others who died from overdoses, a few from the war in Iraq, or accident or any number of things. Honestly I barely can tell… some of my classmates from school (the only people whose age I can be roughly certain) - look anywhere between 30 and 60!! It’s wild.. Much younger people who appear much older, most of it has to do with their style or behavior. In some cases excess cosmetic enhancements. Overall, though if I saw a naked face out of the shower, I probably would be better than chance telling someone in their 20s from someone in their 40s. At least I would hope so. The extreme obsession youth and youthful looks is what’s really different. When we were young, we just were young, not worried about not looking young soon or whatever. Geez even thinking about these things would be so foreign. I feel bad for youngsters these days I really do. I really hope you find your way out of this mess because beyond don’t smoke and be a healthy weight/nutrition and don’t get sunburned it is hugely genetic and not in your control and nor is it an achievement to look younger. I don't think I look extremely young and when I'm out with my kid, students don't assume I'm a student anymore. Same person, same style, different context. That's why, when I am giving a lecture in a more formal context, like an inaugural lecture or a keynote talk, I tend to wear what I call Stella Gibson core to look more mature. Being a shorter woman with feminine features in a scientific field strongly dominated by men and at conferences where most of them are older and have more accumulated reputation, I want to consciously avoid being mistaken for a student because it unfortunately still can make a difference.

But I remember when I was a teenager I wanted to look older too, and everyone else wanted the same, especially to go out and drink. Honestly I think eventually this will also pass for Gen Z because they're in the middle of that phase (as the youngest is 12, and the oldest is 27, they're in the middle of that particular phase). Gen A won't be much of a difference I think, it's the same story. Heck, if they are concerned about looking young now, you just know their trend will be to look older just to be different. The grey hair doesn't really matter, her hair is just a little frizzy (I get it) so it looks older/more frazzled or run down and tired often reads as older. I look older when I'm tired, I don't think it ultimately matters that much but it is so funny that she's wearing these Rose West ass glasses and wonders why she looks older! The blonde haired woman that does all the fillers, she does look like she’s in her 30s plus. And I think that’s because younger people don’t realize that the nasal label folds really age you more than some slight wrinkles around your eyes or on your forehead. Those will age you so much more than crows feet. And quite frankly, when I saw when she stated her age, I was shocked because she looks really old. The first lady who was in her late 20s constantly asking do I look 36 she had the same problem. As well as her hair and her clothing. I’m not saying she needs to wear make up but her skin looked dull. And in your 20s your skin shouldn’t look that dull, I do think that the first lady needs a really good skin care routine and maybe she should spruce up her hair a little bit. but I only say that because she’s distressed over the fact that people think she looks 36. If she doesn’t wanna look 36, you need to take care of your skin, you have to get rid of the Grey in your hair, you have to wear clothing that doesn’t make you look frumpy all the time. even Billie Eilish who wears oversized kind of comfortable clothes that could look really frumpy on people, she does fun things with her hair and she wears make up and she takes care of her skin. That’s why Billie Eilish looks like she’s in her early 20s which is how old she is.

Someone from my club would see the look, know exactly what they were thinking and respond "Yeah she's 27/28/30 etc, crazy right?". To which the shocked response was usually something along the lines of "No way! I think some people just have features that make them automatically look more mature or younger regardless of their skincare, genetics and lifestyle. Like the 29 year old woman who looks like 36 just kinda has a face matching an older person. Maybe it's because she has droopy eyelids, thin lips and a bigger nose, you know kinda like the opposite of the baby schema. Like people (especially women I think) look automatically younger than they are if they have big doe eyes, a small nose, full lips and round cheeks. Also body types / sizes. There is just a type of figure that I personally associate with a 30+ mom of 3. Also wearing colours, makeup, hair colour that doesn't match your skin tone. I feel like the woman with the botox does look older because of the botox but also the tone of her hair makes her look kinda old.

It also has to do with facial features. Generally, more rounded or soft features look younger (aka baby face) vs sharper or longer or blunter features look more mature. And most people have a combo of those features & so perception is based on which features are dominant in their face & also what he said about our own idea of what ages should look like.

Yes. With 14 I liked the thought of being in my 40s because I was lucky to meet women that age that I admired for the way they were carrying themselves with such a calm and knowing elegance in comparison to myself as a teenager. They seemed to have achieved things in life and went through enough turmoil over the years that helped them to put things into a more differentiated and less emotionally overwhelming perspective. They had interesting jobs, money to spend wisely, their priorities straight..etc. When I turned 30 I didn't mind and actually see only advantages. I get taken more seriously (especially at work), the few men I meet that only want women in their twenties sort themselves out more often now while other men in their 30-40ies are now more interested in me when they realise I am not actually 25. I seriously don't get why so many men think that the majority wants much younger women in their teens or twenties. I felt the same when I was young because that was obviously the only type of men approaching me, but the older I got the more 30+ yo men are interested in me, and from those the relation of really interesting guys to non- interesting guys is much higher. There are tons of 30+ yo men that are kind (in general, not just being nice to women they find attractive), open-minded, have learnt to deal with their emotions in a way that never leads to explosive anger, know how to talk things out instead of arguing...etc. Relationships for me are so much more fun if both lived long enough to learn those qualities. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely loved my twenties and would do it mostly again the same way. I had great relationships then too, but I wasn't as balanced and self-reflected, as were my then boyfriends. Aging while having a good life is a fine experience :)

I am in my mid forties, gen x/ millennial cusp. My husband is the same age and has a baby face. People often think our adult kids are our partners or siblings and ask if I was a teen mom when they find out I’m the mom. I think it has a lot to do with sunblock, being in a happy marriage for over 20 years, so low stress, and never having any fillers. I have never had any work done, not even Botox. Not saying I won’t, it just scared me so putting it off as long as I can. Both my parents died in their early forties, I have out lived them. So for me aging is a gift that I am thankful for, I love every wrinkle and grey, I have earned them❤

Exact same. If my husband didn’t have gray hair and a beard people would think he was still in his late 20s. My niece’s friends just a couple years ago at her wedding thought I was their age. His deputy manager’s girlfriend was shocked when I told her I was mid 40s. I find it hilarious because when I was 17 people thought I was a decade older (my brother who is 8 years older would have friends who asked me if I graduated with them) and now everyone thinks I’m a couple decades younger so it’s like I’m perpetually in my 20s😂. How we behave, dress, and if you are a woman, do your makeup, can have a big impact on how you are perceived. When we were growing up, no one did the full beat. It wasn’t even an option for me since I couldn’t even find pantyhose that matched my skin much less foundation. We also were outside, granted not with sunscreen, but way more physically active, and let’s face it a lot of Gen X are perpetual teenagers 😂.

There were a lot of wealthy families at my school, and they all set expectations for their kids- they were told where to go to university, what to study, what career path to take, all to maintain the family image. Every single one of those ppl look miserable as adults. A couple of them did exactly what they wanted to do, regardless of their family expectations, and all of their pictures they look youthful and happy with their lives. Like I said, totally anecdotal, but i definitely still think there’s something to it

My aunt said the same thing. She went to a High School reunion and she said, her friends who stayed in the same town and took over their parents businesses, got married early and don't even really travel for vacation looked way older than the people who left after school, have unstable/random careers, had kids out of wedlock and travel a lot. At my High School Reunion (Class of 2004) the people who looked old were basically the people who smoked cigarettes and weed behind the school and hung around the pretentious, smoke filled, drugs-are-okay bars even as teenagers. Alcohol and smoking ages you, la di da. I looked younger for a long time, when I had a kid, I suddenly looked my age. haha.

Though there is some logic to your opinion.. it can be the opposite too. I led a grounded life, studied hard, had an arranged marriage. I may not have an exciting life but I am thoroughly content.. have 2 amazing kids, a loving, steadfast, slightly boring husband (but genuinely dedicated to me and my kids).. Girls my age seem more excited and younger than me as they still party, dress well and go out a lot. I mostly stay home, prefer charity over shopping and dress modestly. You might think I look old (and I do) but I am content. The point being, the people who look old may not be bothering to put up much effort as they are content with the way they are...

@chai_lattes8 ай бұрын
For some reason the haircut made her look like a whole mom with grown adult kids like I would not hesitate to think she's 50-60😅 she just naturally has a mature looking face

I thought she looked older too but I love that she kept her real hair colour. And it's her style so who cares if she seems a bit more mature than she is 😊

@@chai_lattes I think she is a mom.... which is part of the reason. But she actually looks older than my mom who's mid-50s. Her face shape/hair color/ personal style/ body shape are all aging her (and most of those things are things she could fix with some effort). At least she still has young, non-sun damaged skin which will help her out a LOT later on. Ngl, losing some weight would reduce the puffiness in her cheeks around her mouth lines because those lines are usually only that prominent on people 50-60+ Botox lady too, she looks so old because the lip injections made her skin look saggy around her mouth.

SHE'S 29 YEARS OLD???? OMFG I thought she was 40
@j.j.37598 ай бұрын
Being overweight ages you until you're about the age people expect jowls/marionette lines. The idea that having extra fat makes you look more youthful is only true in the sense that a 60-year-old might look 50.
@duma2278 ай бұрын
I am 40 and if she said she was around my age, I would think ‘sure’ but I would also think she actually looked a bit rough and she needs to start taking better care of her skin and hydration. She has quite lax and dull skin and that is what makes her look a bit “old”.

@@duma227and what is she talking about the aches of 36 old, like her knees hurt? That's not typical for 36 lol

I'm a millennial. Most people think I'm still in my teen year's & have been told numerous times I have a baby face. I have relatives who are in gen z & they look soo much older than me. Irony I know I'm older than them. Honestly it freaks me out. I also feel even younger being around gen z. It's bad enough being told you look younger & being laughed at when you want to drink. When you look younger no one takes you seriously which seriously pisses me off. On 2 different occasions this happened. First trying to return something in walmart my step mom was with me when this happened. I tried to return a cd? I had the receipt. The person behind the counter gave me attitude calling me punk & to get out of his store. I was so pissed & pulled out my id card to purposely prove I am born in 1987. Then the guy apologizes & say's I'm so sorry mam. After causing grief... Then another time me & my parents went to red robin & I asked for an alcoholic drink off the menu. The waitress stepped back & said sorry we don't serve alcohol to high schoolers I'll need to see I'd. I showed her my ID saying 1987 & she looked like she did a double take when looking at me saying: I'm so sorry you just look so young... 🤦♀️✌️

You are always in tune to what has been going on lately. Like that video that went viral with that woman looking 36, I saw it and it really made me shocked and I started to read the comments. But yeah it´s insane how many videos there are about aging and looking too old or too young nowadays. And people commenting about it and bringing others down.

yeah thought the same, she could look much younger, i dont get why she doesnt dye her hair, if shes 29 and already getting gray hair, thats crazy. Yeah she shoudl definetly get some new glasses... although getting guessed 35 while your 29 is really no insult.

Yeah, the first video has the "I am not old, only chronically tired" vibe, the second video has a "I am old and trying to look younger" vibe which influences a lot how we see someone

@@soom878 Maybe she likes her hair and don't want to get it colored. I have a friend who got grey hair when she was 21, it's genetics and she doesnt care about it, leaves it as is. Also, this thing with age.. it's genetic as well. I get that using botox and maybe stressing out ur skin with different chemicals (anti-aging creams etc) plats a big roll, but genetics are very important. So some people will look younger, others older, no matter what they do. And another thing, is that when asking people "how old do i look", one needs to think about the fact that different people will think that different attributes ages u up/down. Some will notice ur wrinkles more, for ex, while others wont. It's about what details people notice. Sorry if hard to understand, English is not my main language 😅😊
@AegaTheCat7 ай бұрын
Another thing. I didn't notice her gray hair, so it didn't affect how old I thought she looked. However, she looks tired, which I understand because she has children. She has slightly darker circles under her eyes and I think that affects how old she looks. I also have dark circles, and look younger if I put makeup over them. I think that if you look less tired, you usually look younger too.

If you are working in the entertainment industry or if front of camera on social, aging could matters, but what is more important if you are healthy inside and not suffering from any illness or diseases. It’ll be a waste dying of disease while looking youthful

People used to smoke like a pack a day and never drink water 💀 And majority of people didn’t care about eating healthy or skincare or anything like that. But I think cigs/no water is the worst offender

And tanning. The tanning is 2nd to smoking on making your skin look bad
@starrynyte1588 ай бұрын
I smoked a pack a day for almost 20 years. Awful, I know, trust me, but I also stayed out of the sun religiously and don't look anywhere near my age. I think there are a ton of reasons it happens.

@patriciaeichberger458 my skin doesn't looked and I lived in the sun and tanned in the winter (when i didnt live in tropical locations). I'm 40. Everyone thinks I'm atleast 10 years younger.

And definitly genetics. My older sister never smoked, doesnt tan or go outside or drinks alcohol or takes drugs. She does sport and eats healthy, but she still looked older than her age before her procedure.
