UK here, it's still extremely popular nearly everyone serves it up at Xmas, but its known now simply as Christmas pudding. All supermarkets sell it at Christmas time and it's mostly served with cream or brandy cream and traditionally set fire to, prior to serving, as brandy is used. Yours looks wonderful ! X

In Canada, we have always given everyone at the Christmas table, a Christmas cracker. You pulled it apart with the seated neighbour for that satisfying bang . Everyone wore the tissue crown, shared the riddle and enjoyed the novelty. The more expensive the cracker, the better the novelty like a mini screwdriver, a wee tape measure etc. Having a British mother, I have always enjoyed this tradition and now my children do too. I didn’t realize that Americans don’t. Your video was most enjoyable. Merry Christmas to you and yours❄️🇨🇦❤️🎄

What a wonderful video! I first heard of crackers when I went to a holiday dinner at my best friend's house in the early ninty's. My friend's mother had married a man from England and he bought that tradition to their family. As for the paper hats, I just noticed them as I watched the show, "All Creatures Great and Small," from PBS. I was wondering about that tradition 😅. That show is so sweet and heartwarming. My husband enjoyed it too. We are looking forward to watching more seasons. Merry Christmas 🎄🤗!

I’m so glad you showed how you make a Christmas pudding. I haven’t made one in a long time because I didn’t have suet, so, the butter substitute is a great idea. When I’ve made it in the past, I learned the hard way that it works best IMHO if you butter and flour your mold, as the butter, by itself, wasn’t enough to make it not stick. 😊
@JeriLandersofHopalongHollowКүн бұрын
I learned that the hard way; The pudding slowly slid out of the mold, except for the top corner, which I had to gently maneuver out of place with a butter knife

This series is so well done and enjoyable, thanks!!! I have my own recipe for fruitcake I make every year and it's so fun. It is expensive; the perfect food for once a year. You mentioned jewels, and that's what I always think- the fruit and nuts chopped up in the bowl look like a treasure chest of jewels. My fruitcake is made so I had to get some of it to nibble (with some Earl Grey tea) as I watched😂 I celebrate the Christmas season from the day after Thanksgiving until NYE (which is a board game playing marathon holiday in my family [There's the German heritage; I have English and Dutch heritage also]). A couple of years ago, I ordered 2 imported British puddings to try, but I found I like my fruitcake so much better, so I'm sticking with a popular winner.😂 I'm sure a homemade pudding will be better, and I hope your recipe is delicious. Now the crackers I've seen (but not heard!) on Brit Coms and had almost bought some but the ones I saw were too expensive for the trinkets. The story and book of cracker history was fascinating, and I will definitely be making my own crackers using your method next year. I do see this as another special holiday craft to do with grandchildren in the future too! 😁

I know there is 14 stages of the cross. Some say that Jesus was crucified on Friday the 13th. I've never heard that though. Jesus had 12 Apostles and Judas was the 13th at the last supper. . Otherwise, l have no idea. I love the flavor that brandy gives in dishes. I like to use Bristol Cream, too. The alcohol bakes off. I have a die that cuts out crackers. They're alot of fun! Merry Christmas 🎄!!!!! Loved this video series!!! Question: is the "cloth" on the table made in the USA by Family Heirloom Weavers who are in Red Lion PA? Who use the original looms from the 1700's? My sister and I have many original blankets , runners, towels etc. They are no longer popular and their many patterns have been copied by a company in India. I'm curious how long a non-alcoholic Christmas pudding will keep as I thought it was the alcohol that made the pudding last longer than just a few days. I soak my dried fruit mixture in sherry for a day prior to making my Christmas pudding, usually about a month before Christmas. I don't "feed" my pudding with more alcohol during that month but many people do. I'm American but my mother was from England and I grew up with all the English Christmas traditions, which I continue with my own family. 🙂

I believe the puritans even banned the celebration of Christmas, as being too likely to lead to unbridled behaviour and much of the origins of the winter celebrations are pagan. This was a lovely video on a grey, gloomy morning.
