Two little downsides I forgot to mention in the video if you are considering either of these cams ⬇️ 1. NO CONTINUOUS AF - If you need autofocus and things like face tracking, this isn't the cam for you. But if you are trying to get into more professional video work, you really shouldn't be relying on autofocus anyway and should be practicing with pulling focus manually! 2. NO IBIS - Handheld filmmaking can be a bit tough with this camera because there in no in body stabilization. However, you could use lenses that have lens stabilization and this helps out a bit. But you will have to practice getting steady with your hands if you shoot handheld often. Another solution that helps out with this is getting a top handle or rigging out your camera to make it heavier. 3. NO PRORES IN 6K - If you want to shoot in ProRes all the time on the BMPCC 6K, you will only be able to shoot up to 4K in that codec. Something to keep in mind if you mainly shoot in ProRes! If you have any questions, drop them down below!

I think with the 6K, as future proof as it is, it can wait. When the mass market slowly adopts this resolution the price of a 6K (Blackmagic or otherwise) will certainly drop. Also you already have a good point with the fact that the file size is large. Having said that, if people wait to adopt 6K, you give time for also the storage aspect to catch up. So ... it just makes more sense to wait for the time being.

Short answer... yes. Very worth the investment. lol! The one thing I don't get is the complaints about the body. Yeah, it could be different, but even with the cube cameras, the first thing people do is get a side handle on the right side. Z Cam. Kinefinity. RED DSMC2 and Komodos. Ursa Mini. and so on and so on. Even the C70 has that "handgrip" thing going on. But eh, to each their own. I got the 4K for the lens variety. I've adapted to PL and EF mostly but there are more options than that. I got the 6K to pretty much be my A cam and have that extra resolution for cropping and VFX work. Great video as always and solid points through and through! Keep it coming!

Thank you for a great video. The only two things I'd disagree are: 1) you can use more lenses with the 4K if you use adapters. With the 6K you're stuck with Full Frame Lenses. So I'd say it's the 4K that allows you to use the most variety of lenses, even if you get crop factor. 2) I own a KineMini 4K since 2015. 4K is already way future proof, when you see many films are still shot in 2K. Most corporate stuff will never be above 1080. This talk about how much better images look if you downsample from 6K to 4K is a bit of snake's oil discourse from the manufacturers. If you're a true professional who has to shoot almost every day, this pixel peeping thing is the last thing you want to spaend time with. Typically the pixel peeping people are geeks who see cameras as toys. 4K is as future proof as 6K, imho... Nobody keeps the same camera for decades anymore. Not with programmed obsolescence in manufacturers policies.

@@edwardleefilms thank you for your reply! Yes, you've made a good choice! Canon is as reliable as can be. I owned the XM2, the XL2 and the XL-H!, in the past. They are very good and reliable but, I never liked the greenish tint they seem to have. I mean the reds are a bit orangy and the greens are quite emphasized. I am about to buy the BMCC 6K (not the Pro version) as a B-Cam to my Kinefinity. But I would never rely on BMCC for my A-Cam. If you look up the dynamic range chart of the pocket cinema camera 4k/6k the higher iso actually prioritizes highlights and the lower iso prioritizes shadows. So if for you were to compare the two different native iso but compensate the exposure difference with an ND filter, 1250 would have more detail in the highlights while 400 would have more detail in the shadows.
@edwardleefilms3 жыл бұрын
Ah gotcha that actually sounds right. I knew I had that lowkey wrong. Thank you for clearing it up!
@dna82693 жыл бұрын
How does that work? You would think higher ISO would allow you to see more in the shadows, and it would blow out highlights faster. Whats the science behind how that works?
@TorbensonProductionsvideos3 жыл бұрын
@@dna8269 well the higher iso definitely pushes a lot of the shadows into the mid tones which is why I think you’d expect the high iso to have more shadow detail. If we are not doing any lighting the yes high iso captures more shadow information from a location only because we are exposing the “shadows” at a higher IRE. Lower ISOs have more latitude in the shadows which basically means that the shadows will have a cleaner look. So this doesn’t mean that if you are in a dark situation you should under expose your image with a low iso, it’s just saying if you are trying to create an image with rich detailed shadows a lower iso is best. I think a big part of this is because of the noise created by higher ISOs, most of the noise is in the shadows. I’m going to have to do a bit of research to give a better answer than that because I’ve mostly just seen the latitude ISO charts but not really looked into the why

@matthewphillips54832 жыл бұрын
IR pollution is a HUGE deal and I have seen it with my own footage many times. If your subject is wearing, say black, in the sun and you have an ND filter to cut the light down then your black clothes will have weird color shifts; usually magenta/red/orange. It ruins the image, IMO. You can try to cut Saturation to the magenta channel in post to try to fix it but you ruin caucasian skin tones to get rid of it.

Hey thats a great question. Sorry for the late response. I think the metabones one is sorta steep in price but it is worth it over the cheaper ones. The connection feels more secure and you have more confidence on set that your features will work. The cheaper ones tend to not last as long and if it craps out on you during a shoot that would cost you more in the long term.

Yeah those are valid points! I think the hazey look might be coming from people using pro-mist filters. But yeah I think blackmagic will come out with a fresh camera this year or early next. In my opinion though, you can't go wrong with the 6k due to the price. The Komodo is of course a better camera but it also cost as much as 3 BMPCC 6K cameras. So for filmmakers on a budget, I think the 6K is way more bang for the buck. But if you can afford it, the Komodo is much better!
@dna82693 жыл бұрын
@@edwardleefilms Is the Komodo really that much better though? Curious to hear your thoughts on this. The image quality seems Damn near the same on tests. In your view, why do you feel it’s much better / what aspects have you ranking it that high?

Great video! But I still can't decide ( So, i don't need 6K resolution and also the 6K only shoots 50 fps, and the rolling shutter is worse on the 6K, and i don't like the old EF mount, because you can't adapt anything to that. So it seems like 4K is the obvious choice, and yet... I don't really wanna mess up with speedboosters, even though I use one now with the original BMPCC.

@@edwardleefilms well, i heard the Pro has many issues and broken units, as it was with first 4Ks and 6Ks. BM has a bad quality control at the moment of launch, but they fix it in a few months. And yet, Pro has an EF, which is really limiting the lens choice. I wished they went with a mirrorless mount. The 4K is is the best bang for the buck. Also the 4K shoots RAW at 4K but the 6K does not do RAW in 4K. The 4K also works nicely with the GH5S and the upcoming GH6 series. Lens sizes, especially at the tele end, means the camera is hand-holdable for longer periods of time - important by the end of the day. There are also many more vintage lens options that will adapt to the 4K than can be used on the 6K. When factoring in the price the 4K has got one heck of a lot of bang for that buck.
