LOSING THE PLOT IN PHNOM PENH

You being dumped by a bar girl for one of her regular customers made me think of when I have paid up front for girl, maybe tipped her a bit extra and taken her back to my hotel. Only for her to suddenly snatch up her phone, look intently at the screen and unapologetically declare "I have to go now", throw on her clothes, grab her hand bag and storm out without any mention of a partial refund. I've actually had a girl stay all night leaving me hanging anticipating a morning session only for her to wake suddenly, snatch up her phone, glance intently at the screen and give me the old "I have to go now" declaration. As you can tell I have grown so tired of the way these girls think they can pull the "I have to go now" with a complete sense of entitlement and impunity and it makes me think many of the stories of bar girls fatally falling from hotel balconies are a result of guys flipping out when some jumped up bar girl attempts to brush a guy off with the whole "I have to go now" line delivered with a complete sense of indifference. Things are only getting worse given the way that bar fines, lady drinks and lady fees have exponentially increased over the last 5 or so years. Because it's one thing to write off 2,000 Baht but another when your talking 6,000 to 7,000 Baht. As I'm currently based in China I haven't set foot in South East Asia for almost 3 years thanks to the never ending Covid Circus but one of my last memories of negotiating with a mixed Vietnamese/Cambodian girl on Koh Chang for a nights entertainment together. I was happy to pay more for this girl because she was a statuesque stunner who literally stood head and shoulders above the other but I insisted on her guaranteeing me a full night with an agreed upon departure time. It was still early in the night so I was happy to agree upon 8:30am so we shook hands and swore an oath saying she wouldn't leave before 8:30am. Funny thing in the morning she attempted to justify leaving before 8:30am on the grounds of being tired but when I reminded her of her oath she paused, looked at me before saying O.K, taking off her panties and mounting me for a much anticipated morning session. Soon after that I was picked up from my hotel for a day's snorkeling trip.

Hi Ed, I've been watching your Cambodia series with great interest. I always appreciate your honestly and straight talking, and having watched all your videos over the past couple of weeks I don't think Cambodia is for me. There doesn't seem to be a lot going on. We often moan about Thailand but the reality is there is nowhere that compares to it, 2023 I will do my usual 2 trips to Thailand.

I mean, stunning places like Krabi, Ko Lipe, Ko lanta etc, alone, just make Thai special and you have all that great Thai travel infrastructure and a do as much, or as little partying option available, virtually anywhere half touristy in Thailand.

I went there a couple of weeks ago. It seems dead and I asked a couple of girls and they asked 100 USD dollars for a short time (one shot) plus bar fine. I am from Europe and I spend less in a German club where you spend 150 euro for one hour and no shot counting. On the other side few western people and it's easy to talk with people but I didn't fly for 12 hours to just talk to old dudes.

Another way to play it is to rotate...have a roster for the evening...see which one or two you sort of click with. ..then you get into the loss of face thing but if you know what you are doing (which you clearly do) then you never get disappointed if a regular shows up and there is no pressure either to hurry up and take one out just in case one of her regulars show up wither. I know off the rail, this is about Thailand, but for expats I seen videos on how cheap Thailand is and condos vs villas vs houses to buy. But no-one mentions Healthcare. All the years there is their health care any good? I mean if im old and decide to retire there can I trust their healthcare or am i better off with my Medicare and retirement health care in the United states? Again off the rails now that you are in cambodia, but just curious if something went down w me in Thailand are their Hospitals up to par?

I am a long time Expat & live in Udon Thani & being a Brit I grew up with the NHS & am used to government health care. I have used both Private & Government hospitals & as a rule of thumb I would say government are about a third of the cost of Private. Example is I have heart stents but I was working abroad when I had my heart attack & my Company insurance paid for them. When I got back to Thailand I went for a check up at a standard private hospital & checks & tests cost 10,000 THB & 22,000 THB for 3 months meds. Next check up I went the government hospital & got the same & it was 3,000 THB for the checks & tests & 6,000 THB for 3 months meds. I find the government hospitals very good & the medical care as good as I would get in a UK Hospital. Most brokers here used to advise 3 Million THB coverage & that would cover 99% costs but prices have gone up over the years & now they say 5 Million THB but if your using government hospitals you can make that 1.5 Million THB I will try put some links below to show you the differences but sometimes the links don’t stay so if that happens I will put what you can type in to take you there on YT. Vehicle insurance here is also different here & if you are deemed at fault for an accident you can find yourself liable for blood money to families if anybody is killed & medical bills & injury compensation so I will do the same for a link that explains everything you need to know on this. For the Vid on the Udon Thani government hospital I went & spoke with the girls in the Foreigners & VIP office & she gave me a list of all the Thai insurance companies they already have agreements with & said soon they will have agreements with all Thai insurance companies. I asked if it was the same at every government hospital & she said no each hospital does it’s own thing so I suppose you would need to go check at a government hospital we’re you stay.

As Eddie says, it is essential to do the Killing Fields trip when you are in PP. Make sure your trip also includes the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum S21 which is where prisoners were initially interrogated..... a very sobering experience seeing what went on there. Your hotel will book the trip for you at a very reasonable price.
