Totally agree with you mate, I have been living here since 2005. Yes, it has changed a lot! Back then it was different, felt very different and edgy but always safe. The changes were rapid, back then no ATM, power cuts daily, no mini marts, less cars, tallest building a 6 story shopping centre. Today, less people out of poverty, better opportunity more educated people. It is a modern city with an old school vibe. To the person thats never been..go visit. It is still very different. Organized chaos so to speak. Great meeting you here and onward and upwards to your next adventure!! Keep up the great work!!

I had been wanting to visit Cambodia ever since I first visited SE Asia in the early 70s as a young guy, but the Vietnam war and Pol Pot didn’t allow it. I finally got to experience Cambodia in 2007 and I fell in love with this country and it’s lovely people. Great job. Enjoyed your show thoroughly but with one different opinion on the "garbage in the streets". Been in Cambodia for 7 years now with the first two in Sihanoukville and five in Kampot. I remember black garbage bags piled twenty high in empty lots and empty plastic bags filling the little streams by the roads in S'vile but you won't see that in Kampot. They have blue garbage containers every fifty meters by the river road and we drop off our home garbage there regularly. Weekly garbage pick up through out the town. You will hardly ever see police presence in the city and yet there isn't a place downtown that I don't feel safe at anytime, day or night. I love Kampot, it is a very clean and well run little city where I have never had a greater sense of freedom, personal safety and happiness in my life.
@mrc4545 Жыл бұрын
First arrived Cambodia 2007. It was a different place back then for sure. Can't begrudge development and it's still a great place albeit not with the exciting undiscovered edge as before. PP is almost unrecognizable compared to 15 years ago, Kampot too. I actually liked Kampot back then, not many people went there, felt like a hidden rustic jewel untouched by time. You're right though, we all change too and wide eyes of yesteryear a little less wide than before.

This is presently my first trip to SEA. I spent two months in Thailand and then went to Phnom Penh (I bumped into EDDY randomly in PP. He's a great guy in person too). Anyway, I loved Cambodia and PP! The hotels, food, transportation are excellent values. Eddy is right that you need deep pockets if you want to play in the Riverside area - - but great and inexpensive fun can be found elsewhere - no problem! Cambodia was a revelation to me - although I have no historical reference - and that may be a good thing! I'm going back for March and April and really looking forward to it. I went to Cambodia 30 years ago. The UN were just pulling out of Siem Reap and there were hardly any tourists at Ankor Wat. I was at Ankor Thom with just me, a Japanese guy that I'd met on the boat going up there and an 18 year old Cambodian army soldier guarding the place. That was it. There was no girly bar scene for tourists. So it changed for better/worse in the 15 years between then and 15 years ago when you were first there Ed. We are entering a multipolar world. The US dollar will hit the toilet in 2023/2024, but I think they will go to war to preserve their hegemony. Cambodia will get rid of the US dollar and is trying to now. Unfortunately the cost of living will continue to rise, and as countries like Cambodia continue to develop things will start to change as they did in Thailand. Yes, Cambodia is the last country in SEAsia to offer a non elitist visa regime, and thanks to that, some of us expats can get away from the crazy domestic and international policies of our governments, because they're on a slippery slope to oblivion. God Bless Cambodia. ❤️

I LOVED Cambodia in 2019...but frankly hated it very recently in 2022. It's the Chinese investment or something. Everything has gotten WAY more expensive if you want to actually live here. It's easily ~50%+ more expensive than Thailand. And as for women, before, for an 8.5-9/10, ST for $40+10 BF was no problem. This time around, They asked for $200, and wouldn't budge below $80 no matter what (unless they were below a ~6.5/10). It's like Vietnam girly prices but without the Vietnam charm. I don't know who got these girls unionized or what, but I've been turned off by Cambodia entirely. Grocery stores are all expensive imported goods. The ONLY good thing about Cambodia is that long-term visas are easy as hell to get.

Hi Eddie Just wondering how you go about accessing money on your long trips Our kid has got a house in Thailand and normally takes a load of cash crisp 50s , but he only goes for a month tops How do you go on when your travelling for months , have you got any tips for assessing the money without getting stung , I’m presuming you don’t travel with a suitcase full of cash I use a Revolut card in Europe and it works well but I believe Thailand isn’t card friendly cash is king

No problem - open a Thai Bank account and then send in seconds via Wise.

I just notified my bank that I would be traveling in that part of the world and living there for some time...and then got money from ATM machines when I needed it. I also lived very very cheaply in south east Asia..... so my costs were very low compared to many people. When I return, I'll stay to live there and open a bank account there.... My pensions are capable of depositing to foreign bank accounts, so no problem there.

@naughtynightlifeasia So if your there for say six weeks plus you can open a Thai bank account without a permanent address and proof of residency I was under the assumption it's harder to open a bank account there than uk

@@garybaker4395 No…sorry… I’m referring to opening a bank account in Cambodia, which is fairly simple to do depending on which visa you have. I’ll be getting the ER retirement visa extension shortly after arrival. It can be renewed each year indefinitely. My apologies for not making that clear. Setting up a bank account in Cambodia is relatively easy. Most banks require only a passport with a valid long-stay visa and a copy of your lease or an employment letter.

Hi Eddie, it was great to see you in action in Siem Reap. Well, doing a live stream recently. I have to say I, with the cleanup and improved roads in Seim Reap, found the river area beautiful. I do like the look of Kampot for a change. Safe travels

Edi, try to get into Myanmar. Hardly any youtubers have been there. It is unique. At least a couple of places should be accessible. It would be worth it just for Yangon. Hit me up if you're curious.

Ed: I'm assuming you like me, live alone. So when you have time, how about some advice regarding security of your home while you're on your extended trips? Also, from watching yours and other's vlogs, it seems the glory days of Thailand and Asia generally, with the exception of possibly the Philippines are over. What do you think about places like Mexico, South America, in general? I'm asking regarding reasonable prices, the prospect of a little fun with the ladies, safety, general interest, etc. Sorry mate, I know that's a lot to ask but I think it would be very interesting to many of us. It's good to see you making the most of your trip.

I've been to those South American countries. Not sure they would go down well on this channel.
