EEL FISHING : How to tie "The twig rig"

I’m really lucky to have local park lake. It’s literally stuffed with big eels. I must admit at first I wasn’t a fan of them but after 2 weeks ago catching 6 to 8 sometimes more but now and then lose a couple. It started I was using fishmeal boilies on one rod fruit boilie on the other in solid bags with pellets. I started catching them on fishmeal so went on to both rods using fruit boilies. They started taking them. These were 5-6lb eels I did have a 21lb mirror but didn’t fight like the eels. When I struck into them it felt like I was in a snag but knowing there’s no snags I found out they swim backwards and bury into the silt which is now I knw it’s an eel every run because when pulling them from silt you get a mass of bubbles in a roughly 2ft circle. Now I’m into them big as lake is funny with carp really fussy for certain boilies there is loads they won’t take so rather than many blanks carping I’m going eel fishing. Ps. One got caught yesterday on a cell boilie soaked in activate. Proper mad. But exciting cos I knw I’m gonna catch a few from a very hard lake. Anyway good advice on ur rigs they are new to me so will be tying a good few tomorrow ready for Sunday. Tight lines buddy.

Brilliant stuff, I think lakes are a better bet than rivers as the Eels become land locked and grow bigger. Tight lines mate.

hi whats your opinion on using a large hook for eels i realise that the size of hook is determined by bait size .i can see potentially a size 10 hook might be safer for the eel as they have a artery at the front under there supposedly half inch from the corner of its mouth,a size 6 hook would that go deep enough to cause a issue ,deep as through the artery im not referring to the hook/line going for example 3inches down its throat .there are some very clever experienced eel anglers who use large hooks who really care abt the fish so maybee im missing something id hate the hook to go into a artery if that makes sense

might have a goodly ever had 2 in my fishing career one was when I was a 7 year old I dropped the rod and left it for my dad to deal with lol then one on my spam ......so I may have a go and try and catch one...cheers
