I'd say keep the D series, its by far the easiest one to work on of the Honda engines (they're all pretty easy but the D series has absolutely no secrets). Its a very capable engine series for N/A and Turbo, and even Supercharged if you get the Jackson Racing kit. Plenty of parts, very cheap to maintain, aftermarket is quite good and will get you everything you need for quite a bit below equivalent parts for B/K and even H series. S20 cable trans is a godsend for close-ratio gearing if you like that too.

Nothing happens over night bro, and its surely doesnt have to be perfect! Just have fun and try new things. That paint job video was great!

Thanks for understanding. I'm very much a perfectionist so it can be frustrating at times when things aren't as clean as I hoped. Glad you enjoyed the video!

Definitely want to be honest with my viewers and tell it how it is. No need in hiding why things have slowed down. At the end of the day, the people who watch this channel are the most important part of it, so they should know how I feel.

Glad I can inspire you. Although this particular one isn't the best, I do have to say it is an amazing car to drive when it works

Your car is clean in my opinion🙏, B motors are always good options too! Cheaper to swap than Ks for sure.

about a year into owning mine, my only real issue is the neutral safety switch stopper pad breaking, and the car not starting out of the blue from it. Thank god its not something more major...

Cheapest engine swap that is a decent upgrade might be a B18z/b or B20b/z mated to an LS trans. But you would still need to get all the other stuff like mounts, harness, ECU, axles, etc. Even getting used you are probably going to spend several thousand. Are you into the local Honda community? Some of the older guys have garages full of spares and knowledge. You might be able to find someone that could help get the current setup working well. What about getting a simple and reliable "beater" first? Like a late 90s Civic, Accord, Corolla, or Camry (manual transmission if possible for maximum reliability). Just something you keep 100% stock that can get you around. I took a look at my local FB marketplace and found a number of 90s M/T Accords for under $3500.

You’re right don’t buy the first one you see but buy one after you do your research.

I really like your youtube channel. I only came across it because of the Civic. I would like to buy an EJ9 next year. I think it's really hefty how the prices have risen. You have to pay so much for a VTEC these days. It's really very sad. I also hope that you get a lot more reach with your channel. You can be sure of a thumbs up from me every time. Do you know any KZbin channels that drive an Ej9 1.4? Best regards from Austria bro.

Hey! EJ9 1.4 owner here. I do want to start documenting my adventures with it at some point, but for now I can just tell you, pull the trigger. It's a super underrated spec of the 6th gen, incredibly reliable, and it sounds good! I don't miss the VTEC at all. It's a very good drive even stock, and it only gets better with good suspension upgrades. Put it on 14" wheels and 185 65 R14 tires (I wouldn't recommend 15" if you're keeping the D14), get a good set of coilovers, keep your maintenance up to date, and for not a very big investment, you have one of the best budget cars of all time.

@@zenassi9127 Hey, I've subscribed and am looking forward to the content. I'm considering between an EJ6 1.6 non vtec and the EJ9 1.4. EJ6s are becoming increasingly rare. But I will definitely install an S20 gearbox, as the original one is too long.

@@creetisliest S20 is definitely a big upgrade over the S40, I have both and the S20 just suits the car. I personally like the Hatchback, EJ6 is really cool, but do beware that if you don't have VTEC, the 1.6 will drink a fair bit more gasoline than the 1.4, if that's something you would like to take into account. 1.4 also opens up the D15 minime, which is a lot cheaper than the D16 minime, and you can still opt into D16 minime, but the D16 kinda forces you into the y8/y2 route. I don't have much experience with the sedans, but I've heard they have a bit more body flex, but they're also more comfortable usuallu

Too expensive. Cheapest way is to convert to multi point, and toss on a turbo kit and chipped ecu

Bought an ed7 of my own some month back to have as a project car to learn mechanical things on and honestly its been really nice so far. Taken a long ass time to redo the exhaust since i need to somewhat schedule it in with my brother to get help with the welding part. Not sure what engine you have but the d16z2 is most definetly good enough imo, Feels really good driving especially since its such a light car. Im planning on doing a complete electrical rewire at some point but so far done some sort of audio upgrade and lights upgrade which is ongoing. I guess not having alot of money to spend on the car and not having the ability to let it stand for a while whilst doing some mechanical upgrade or such is prolly alot more stressfull than having it as second car untill its modernized/restored.

This particular car has a d16y7 engine with the original d15b2 air system. Doesn't work well, and never has. If it was the regular d16y7 stuff it would work perfectly fine. But what you said is very true. It's extremely stressful not having reliability or a second car
