The Tomcat in the video is the F-14B, which features the GE F110-400 engine instead of the old underpowered TF30s Also, a shame we won't ever have the D or ST21 variants in DCS- would be a much fairer fight against something like the typhoon

@@youthere7327 The Typhoon has splashed the F22 in simulated dogfights - simulated dogfights carried out by the US at that. The F22 is an astounding craft, it is nigh on invisible to enemy radar and it can achieve a lock at extremely long range but in a dogfight its abilities are comparable to the Typhoon, which was designed primarily to dogfight, no stealth or clever weapons systems just an airframe that can bob and weave as good as any 4th or 5th gen fighter. So all of this "but.. but the F22 is made from unicorns" nonsense that Americans come out with is exactly that, nonsense. An F22 would likely kill a Typhoon before the Typhoon knew it was in a fight, but if that Typhoon managed to dodge the first missile that came screaming out of nowhere then a stealthy kill attempt would turn into a dogfight and the playing field would become very even.

I spent 8 years on typhoon we had an f16 exchange pilot from Texas and he took a typhoon against 4 f16 and won. Only thing in my time on them that beat it was the f22 in UAE and again at red flag

That's all I wanted to see, the Tomcat put up a fight. Only a handful of aircraft are supermanouvrable: Su-27 family, Typhoon, F-22, Rafale would get close. Slightly compromised for strike maybe, but more agile than other 4+ gen fighters. Typhoon's a pure fighter, and a modern delta, so it was always going to dominate.

Having had first hand experience of flying combat against a Typhoon the nose authority on those things is astounding! No idea how good the flight model is on the DCS module but it looks great from the Tomcat. Well done in keeping it off your rear as long as you did! I have a video on my channel of close formation with the aircraft I fought once we had finished the intercept.

you can't launch reversed, with most you can't even from the ground as the missile needs some forward speed but the Eurofighter can lock a target behind and launch a missile that will make a U turn

Despite its record as being a notoriously hard aircraft to fly, I feel like as far as ground-attack aircraft go, the Harrier was one of the better ones. Especially for being a "light" V/STOL aircraft. The British had pretty good success in the Falklands either the Sea Harrier, especially in the ground attack role. I'm sure the F-35B will perform the same task just as well, if even better than the Harrier did in USMC service, but the F-35s are still yet to be combat proven.

Looking forward to seeing BVR Meteors against AAMRAMS. That Typhoon was maneuvering like a sports car against an SUV...only GS at the wheel and a dumb move by the Typhoon pilot saved the day in Round 2. You should have ejected Longshot when he was on your 6 in Round one...Longster's pistol and perhaps a hit with his ejected canopy might have saved ya ;)

As a general rule: In a Tomcat or Eagle, if the plane is shaking, you are wasting turn and energy performance. Your best turns and maneuvers happen just shy of that shaking. You need to let up, you're not gaining anything but drag when pulling that hard: And also provoking roll osscilations that ruin your turn rate even more: Thus losing fights as you're gimping your own plane's optimums in times when the other plane already has an edge.
