So there are Series 12 coaches still in service in Japan? I'm surprised. Japan donated Series 12 coaches to Philippines in two batches: 1999 and 2004, for services from Manila to southern city of Legazpi. There were a few Series 14 coaches mixed in the first batch. Almost all of the coaches are now scrapped. Another batch of Series 14 sleeper coaches were donated in 2011 but were only used for one year until suspension of services in 2012. They are now sitting idly in a yard south of Manila. Unfortunately we do not expect our long distance intercity trains to resume soon. There is a project to convert the old Manila-Legazpi line into standard gauge 1435mm and capable of semi high speeds at 160kph but China did not act on the funding and given geopolitical issues we consider the project dead already. We wish other countries like India, Korea or Japan will take over to fund the project so we can have semi high speed rail that can compete with intercity buses. Railways are severely neglected in Philippines.

Yes. But only few cars sometimes runs as "dynamic preservation".
