Rings of Power is a show that is full of main characters being narcissists who manipulate each other for their own selfish gain, a family betrayal, a boy who gives up in the face of adversity and is willing to sacrifice thousands of people to save himself, a psychopathic tribe who takes advantage from old people and has a tradition of murdering the weak and injured who cannot keep up in the caravan. These premises should have been in the franchise that focus on evilness in human’s heart and moral ambiguity like A Song of Ice and Fire or Breaking Bad universe, not a franchise that is about moral compass like Lord of the Rings.

I think it's really interesting that EFAP's favorite character is "Homer" when the message of LOTR was that anyone could be a hero, that it's not the chosen ones or the perfect people who save the day, and that the world is better off when the lives of the simple folk can continue uninterrupted by the wars of the powerful and greedy. The showrunners of TROP have no idea what LOTR was about, but EFAP randomly choosing a character to get attached to is much more closer to Tolkien's intent than anything in this entire show.

Comparing Arondir vs the orc to Aragorn vs Lurtz: On the scale of powers and abilities, Tolkien did not write a D&D manual, and was not interested in balancing races. He had a natural hierarchy. Elves >> Numenorean Men >> Dunedain (Uruk-hai?) >> Low Men (Uruk-hai?) >> Orcs. Arondir is from the most powerful group, fighting a member of the weakest group in that range, whereas Aragorn is a member of a lesser group, fighting someone much closer to his own power level. That an Elf of the Second Age is having ANY trouble with a single orc in close combat is an epically bad showing for Arondir. As the Ages pass, the power gap between the Free Peoples and the orcish races shrinks. The Elves diminish and fade, and the blood of Numenor attenuates, while the orcs grow stronger, or are at least bred to be more powerful under Saruman. Tolkien's Elves are not the stealthy, ranged-specialist, physically weak race, nor are his orc their contemporary big, brutish barbarian warriors that Warcraft portrays them as. Tolkien's Elves are simply ubermenschen, bigger, stronger, more skilled. They did not use bows because they were too weak to grapple hand to hand, they used them as an expression of a superb combination of strength, reflexes, eye-hand coordination, superhuman eyesight and centuries of practice. This show, and The Hobbit trilogy, seems to think they are wimps with gravity-defying powers, whom you beat by closing to hand-to-hand range and not let them do flips. You don't beat Elves by leveraging your superior physical strength against them, unless you are a cave troll, you beat them by swarming them with vastly superior numbers, and that does not always work, unless you have a wild card up your sleeve, like a suborned traitor in their ranks, or a giant monster or five, i.e. dragons and balrogs. In LotR, Helm's Deep was tough because of the extraordinary prowess of the Uruk-hai, and Saruman's weaponry and the strength of Rohan being divided. Osgiliath was lost and Minas Tirith was threatened because of the sheer weight of numbers, plus Men serving Sauron, plus Ringwraiths. In the rest of the War of the Ring, the Dwarves of Erebor, the Men of Dale, and Galadriel's Elves kicked ass and took names throughout the North (a big part of that was because Smaug was taken out, which was Gandalf's ulterior motive for supporting Thorin's quest). Arondir having this much trouble one on one with a single orc is like the mercenaries' difficulty capturing Baby Leia in Obi Wan Kenobi.

Okay correction because this is bugging me: elves are not stronger than men in Ëa. The real hierarchy should be: (Dwarves?) Light Elves >= (Dwarves ?) Numenorians > Dunedain (Uruks?) >= Dark Elves (Uruks?) >= Low Men (Uruks?) => Orcs >>>>>>>>> Golbins Low Men were perfectly capable of joining and matching the armies of Beleriand when they first arrived there, serving in the many kings armies as equals to the elves. Elves who've seen the Light of the Trees are indeed more powerful (though it is unclear whether this means physically or just that they exude such awe by their mere presence that even trying to fight them is harder), but Túrin Turambar killed Glaurung with a fucking stab. Turin. A low man, not a drop of elf blood in his veins, killed the dragon that years earlier won a fight against a literal _army_ of noldorin elves alone. Elves are overall better fighters when the Third Age spins around because they have had centuries and millennia to hone their skills, true, but their base power is the same. Here are a few list of things that _low men_ did in the First Age of the Sun: Húrin fought alone against roughly 100 trolls. Killed 70 of them. _Alone._ Túrin, as mentioned, did in the fucking father of all dragons. His cousin, Tuor, didn't fall that far behind: beat a dragon in Gondolin so bad the thing fled, then proceeded to find his wife and son about to be killed by one of the elves you said are all stronger than men, Maeglin. Tuor proceeded to grab him by the waist and throw him off a cliff, just like that. And then there is Beren, who dispenses all description... When you look over the Silmarillion, there aren't any tales of elves, even the light ones, doing particularly great feats of strength. The big modern mistake is assuming elves are "more DEX less STR" when, in reality, they should be "more DEX, same STR". The only race specifically singled out for its strength are the dwarves, though it remains unclear whether they are physically stronger than Light Elves and Numenorians or not, although dwarves _were_ the only race created with the explicit objective of being strong as fuck. Orcs are a huge spectrum of strength, ranging from the incredibly tall and strong Uruks all the way to the spindly and most likely insanely inbred goblins.

So for breaking bottle over peoples head, it kinda depends on where you hit with the bottle. The base of the bottle is the thickest and strongest part which is why when a bottle drops and shatters, that glass circle often survives with little damage, so hitting with that, yeah, all the force is concentrated into that part and so it's basically the equivalent of taking a club to someones skull... Hitting with the length of the bottle though is not only far more likely to break, but the force can be distributed across a larger area so the blunt force is likely to be far less lethal... It is however going to shower you with a burst of glass shards that'll slice the shit out you, and will require stitches. I feel which one would be worse kinda depends on your strength. A weaker strike, hitting it with the 'flat' of the bottle and shattering it to lacerate the person's head would be worse, but if you got the strength to crack their skull, you want to hit with the edge of the bottom, and go for the skull crack.
@samwallaceart2882 жыл бұрын
It wouldn't surprise me if empty bottles were somehow more sturdy than filled bottles, though I'm not sure the exact science. Water-based drinks are a kinetically weird liquid housed in a glass bottle which is itself a kinetically weird amorphous-solid. I know the _Pan's Labyrinth_ bottle bludgeoning scene was based on a fight Del Toro witnessed where he saw that in the right context, a glass bottle is in fact stronger than a human face.
@SallinKari4 ай бұрын
@@samwallaceart288 (Re-watching in preparation for season 2 and sees this comment) From my understanding a full bottle is sturdier since the liquid can absorb some of the force that would make it flex, though this would primarily help plastic bottles that would crumple upon impact and thus be far diminished in effect. But I am aware you can 'jolt' bottles in a specific way to form a small vacuum bubble(I've only seen by hitting the top very hard and fast) which will cause the liquid to rapidly try to fill it, and can pop the bottom out of glass bottles, though you would not be striking it like this in a fight so not exactly relevant. Regardless, the main thing is the added weight would be more important then any effects on durability.

21:00 I think it's important to understand that it is not totally unacceptable for a character to act in a way that contradicts how they've been characterized up to that point. It should just be addressed in the narrative in some way, depending on how relevant it is. People you know in real life probably act in ways or hold views that would surprise you even if you believe you know them very well. Even you may act in ways that would surprise or disappoint yourself in the right circumstances. I don't think it's a good idea to rigidly adhere a character to a specific characterization that essentially turns them into robots programmed to behave a specific way. That makes them less believable, not more.
@kamenLegendJ2 жыл бұрын
I agree with that
@Keeki95 Жыл бұрын
But there should be a reason behind it. The problem with most media these days is that characters do what has to happen for a plot or scene to unfold in the way the writer imagined with no concern for who the character is. As the audience, we need an explanation for why a character breaks from our expectations: are they struggling with fear or insecurity? Are they torn between allegiances? Blackmail, hostages, etc? Heck, they talked about that stuff. What makes it believable is that they struggle with obstacles in their way. Randomly acting out of character sets up an expectation that there is something we don't know about the character or that the character is mentally unstable (which is also an explanation for their behavior). Yet so many shows and movies leave situations like these unaddressed, treating it as if nothing strange happened with that character.
@SatanLiterally Жыл бұрын
@@Keeki95 yes, that's essentially what I'm getting at. If a character does do something that conflicts with how they've been characterized thus far, it should be confronted in some way, either by the character themselves or another character in the story who knows them.

2:15:24 That's Aragorn. My theory on how they did this while maintaining the PG13 rating is the fact that like Mauler says it does happen very quickly but also the blood is black. It's hard to notice because it's dark in the cave. This is something that Sam Raimi figured out while making Evil Dead 2. The producers on that movie were very uncomfortable with the amount of blood in it so he convinced them to let him keep all the blood if he changed the color of a lot of it to green. I suspect that was the same principle in The Lord of the Rings. It's different in the Lurtz fight because that takes place outdoors during the day so it would've been a little hard to pass off blood as black. This is just speculation though so take it with a grain of salt.

I had a very disappointing conversation with some of my friends during our weekly game night following the the season finale where I gave my protests, but mostly just listened, as to not be too much of a dick and not allow them to enjoy shitty content if they want to, and the big talking point was episode six and how cool it was and that they'd seen people complaining about it online but "just, like, how can you complain about that, man? It's the fucking BIRTH of Mount Doom. It was just so awesome to see!" So, unfortunately, unironically, yes. They loved the episode... simply because Mount Doom exists. Does the package the kid opens even *have* the shape of the sword hilt? Me listening to this after having seen the following episode: "Well, they''re not wrong about Mr. Evil Volcano not being hot..." Why is Kansas and Arkansas pronounced differently when they have the same ending? I know - slaughter and laughter, which is ridiculous and nonsensical enough, but I dunno, the former two just seem weirder to me. Maybe because they're both names of places. Tolkien's elves are immortal as in no dying from aging or dicease. When they get killed they eventually get resurrected, with the rate dependent on their karma in that life, basically, except someone or -thing decides the waiting period for them. This force or whatever it is can outright deny resurrection to the ones it deems unworthy because of actions so bad it'd be best for everyone if they didn't come back, I presume is its reasoning.

The sea had “claimed” them, and if you take what belongs to the sea then it takes revenge by making storms. My brothers and sisters in Morbius... I know it might be hard to get used to but once it's Morbing time, there's no going back. That's why it's prophesied that Dr. Michael Morbius will destroy the universe to rid the world of all impurities, all so he can create a new universe, a perfect one... a true Morbiverse, governed by the forces of Morb (male power and sanctity) and Bius (female power and sanctity) in harmony with the 69 avatars of Morbius appearing once every 420 years to liberate us of the Antimorb, a horrible creature sent to destroy Morbius by the fallen morb known as Milo. This is why Milo has attempted to alter the course of history in his favor. When he controlled the robot AI called the Morbinator, he took it back in time by piloting the MORBIS, so that it could kill everyone and undo the Iranian religious reformation by Zoroaster, who was one of the first Morbishops. Unfortunately, the Morbinator fell in water and laid dormant for years. Eventually, it was unearthed by Fionn MacMorb, which would lead to religous conflict which split Morbland into the Republic of Morb and Northern Bius. This conflict was eventually resolved when Jared Letto, the 34th avatar of Morbius, signed the Treaty of Versailles, which united the religions of Morbism and Biusism together again. However, despite the failure of the Morbinator, Milo has been working in the shadows to stop Morbius... He enlisted Maximilian Morbespierre to create a new religion, the Cult of the Supreme Morbster (Milo is a vampire too so the word "morb" can apply to him too btw). Unfortunately, Morbespierre was killed by the Holy Virgin Morb, mother of Morbus Christ, the 21st avatar of Morbius. Morbius is a virgin because he has no need for sex. Milo is the opposite, which is made sense by the Unholy Hymn of the Fallen Morb, which has a lyric that says, "HAVE SEX." This is how Morbus Christ predicted Judas' betrayal at the The Last Scran; and how we must check non-virgins to make sure they aren't the Antimorb in disguise... Best of luck to all of you, my fellow Morbians.
