so the "decloaking scan" is an obvious analogue for sonar ping, but that still doesn't work for a bunch of reasons. mostly 2 1. the only ships that bother with single sonar pings are submarines, other ships run the sonar constantly. this is because a ping will give away a sub's location, but a surface ship can be seen by eye. so in order to make this analogy work, both ships need to be in stealth and the scan requires a break in stealth. this set up does not work for star destroyers at all, they would run constant scans the way a conventional destroyer runs constant sonar scans. 2. a sub can hide because the ocean is Big, and a destroyer can't look everywhere at once, so even though they are constantly running scans they can stay outside the the view of the destroyer. this logic _cannot_ be applied to a whole planet. that makes no sense. what is more, they don't seem to need to direct the Decloaking scanner, it just lights up everything so again, the analogy just doesn't work. the decloaking scan is the same as the bombers at the beginning of the movie. someone who does not understand war trying to draw from it and only managing to ape a few tropes while making all the characters look like idiots. to anyone who says "it's not about being totally accurate, it's about the *drama*!" I didn't like the whole Spider-Man being basically Stark Jr. I didn't like him having an A.I. in his suit and he didn't invent the different web settings. Peter Parker is supposed be a nigh genius with science in his own right, so getting these hand me downs from Tony kinda invalidates one of his defining qualities.
@crab74055 жыл бұрын
S4ns I just accept that Hollywood just purchases the rights to use the image and likeness of whatever dearly beloved franchise. I went from idealist (expect 100% true adaptation) to cynic (whatever, it's gonna suck) to realist (Hollywood buys rights to use established franchise to lure established fanbase but also changes things to get general audience for maximum returns). He really was nothing without the suit until 20 minutes left in the movie where the scene demands he can get out of that sticky situation. Man, Stark is so ahead, I dunno why he even needs a Spider-Man. Put that spider suit on an Iron Man suit and it won't cry at all and do as it's told.
@dragonknightleader15 жыл бұрын
He's Millenial Spiderman. He inherits what people made for him instead of making things himself. That's one of the key differences between Millenials and Boomers. As far as drama is concerned, Stark has replaced Uncle Ben as the father figure for Peter, which is why his character didn't have the ghost of Uncle Ben over him.
@insulttothehumanrace38075 жыл бұрын
I can accept the suit being made by Tony Stark (it makes more sense than Peter being able to afford all the needed materials), but the A.I. was kind of dumb, and one of the weaker parts of the new Spider-Man (although I like Karen, I will admit her existence is an insult to the character of Spider-Man). And then Iron Spider... again, cool, but kind of steals Spidey's thunder.
@reneepeck80945 жыл бұрын
Alex It doesn’t matter if he is a millennial or not. Peter Parker is still a high intellect genius who should able to make suits of his own accord. Tony basically giving him shit makes it look like he’s an idiot. If they want to make Tony overshadow Ben then that’s completely fine, but how come he hasn’t been mentioned even once? He was the one who teach Peter about responsibility as a hero and Ben died because Peter didn’t have responsibility. Why hasn’t anyone talked about him at all in this universe?
@SPTX.5 жыл бұрын
The biggest problem is that we're expected to believe he's Stark's level of genius when none of it has been set up in civilwar/homecoming. I'd be fine with him getting stuff from stark if they had kept it consistent, instead they make him one of the world biggest genius out of nowhere so he can take his place. I mean, never mind not matching historical Peter from the comics, even within their own universe they can't keep their story going straight.

Just commenting on the Homecoming/Far From Home stuff I think everyone's problem with MJ is the thing that MauLer didn't really understand. Yes, she's not in the movie for that long. However, that is exactly the problem: by naming her MJ, the writers were clearly telling the audience "She is a significant character to both the story and to Peter Parker." However, she was not given anywhere near enough screen time to justify this significance. She just came of as an edgy teenager trying to undermine people. This is not an Argument from Adaption, because even normie audiences who have no clue about the comics understand the significance of MJ. This is why her portrayal in Homecoming was woefully inadequate: they barely gave her a character to her *and* to Liz, which was disappointing. Both of them could have used a lot of fleshing out, but the writers chose not to give us much of anything for either beyond "Liz is popular" and "MJ is rebellious." And then we come to 1:07:39, when the Drinker talks about the trailer for Far From Home. Yes, MJ makes a joke out of her comment, but that isn't really a defense for her. In fact, it's kind of a further condemnation of MJ as a character, showing that she doesn't really give a shit about someone who is supposed to be a potential romantic interest, and is willing to make him uncomfortable on a date just for a laugh. It's extremely poor etiquette, at the very least, and I very much understand people being put off of the movie by the presence of that joke in the trailer. I understand little of this matters, because Far From Home already came out and the discussions have been had on both it and Homecoming, but I still felt the need to voice this complaint I have with the defenses made for MJ. I feel they are weak and unhelpful in discussing either of the movies.

MauLer I love Civil War, I do enjoy homecoming, probably rate it currently (haven't seen Spider-verse or Far from home) as the third best solo Spidey film. However I do have a few problems with it, MJ I dislike, I couldn't care about skin colour but her personality is awful, and Shad is right, she is a low key stalker in the film of Peter Parkers. But that her personality is of course subjective. I have to say out of everything is once Spider-man becomes a big deal, or at least after the scene at the Washington Monument, and especially after the Ferry scene where Iron Man had to get involved how come the UN doesn't try and arrest Peter for not being part of the Superhuman registration act, since he wasn't signed before and thats the reason why Tony told him to keep a low profile in the first place. Tony doesn't have the authority anymore after Civil War with what he pulled with Ross to keep Spidey under the radar with some sort of deal (which is why I think Tony tried to get Spidey as an official Avenger at the end) and its not like the government will have a hard time tracking him since he operates in Queens NY, and it all leads back to Stark with the suit, so if he was caught Tony would be faced with some sort of problem, so yeah, my question is basically how come the UN security council doesn't get involved in finding who Spider-man is after those events, like interrogating Tombes, who knows and could cut a deal. There isn't a in movie explanation why, and I don't know if Far From Home explains it but I'll thought I'll bring it up in this comment and hope you have an answer I missed.

How come Peter B Parker was the only Spider-man to not appear until after Peter Parkers death. But I guess those are minor details to push the plot along.

Ultimately, I just don't find the awkward kid element of Spider-Man to be charming at all.
@SefniAsheforr4 жыл бұрын
@@DiZtheJedi The awkward kid element is fun, but people confuse it as his main trait even though most of his best stories were when he was an adult. The Venom saga, Kraven's Last Hunt, and many others were set with a more mature, adult Peter. He still quips to hide his fear and trip up his opponents, but he's not a bumbling kid worrying about prom and shit. He is more concerned with balancing his superhero responsibility with his responsibility to his aunt, MJ, his job/s, and his scientific ambitions. He's the opposite of Batman who buries a personal life in favor of his mission, while Peter embraces his personal life and still feels an immense responsiblity to prioritize his role as Spider-man. He has a guilt complex and personal sense of responsibility due to Ben's death (which Homecoming and FFH completely ignore because of "muh whacky fun). He's actually a deeply mature character who's been misinterpreted as a silly, awkward teen. He was only that way early on and then grew up like a regular human. These movies completely missed the point of the maturity and confidence that he gains due to Spider-man as well as the heavy burden that it plays on all aspects of his life. Not just silly trips and dates.

Yeah it seems it would be for the best. Given that way they could deal with someone who is not chat and would be able to more easier state their point of views. Due to no character limit and not being flooded by others, having their messages hidden. That way they could reply to someone on more even footing. Rather than going why do people dislike this movie i'm emotional connected to. Given Mauler has to be just a tad stupid, if they think chat is going to be able to put up a reasonable counter part. Given how often chat will get flooded with a new meme or something that would wipe away the counterpart. Given it's already hard enough to explain their point with the character limit. That and given how easy it is to miss their next point or post where they explain their reasoning to a greater degree. Given it's alot like twitter. It's not a platform for communication, it's a platform of misunderstanding. Given heck i am rather sure my post here is alot longer here than what i could post with the character limit on chat.

I really do like Homecoming quite a lot. Tom is the best Peter/Spidey and Keaton is one of the MCU's best villains. It's one of the better written MCU movies. BUT, I agree with the things HiTop has a problem with. So, I'd love for you to cover it and deep discuss it.
@christianbjorck8165 жыл бұрын
I’ll stand by saying Homecoming is a really solid film, but a terrible Spider-Man film. If the source material don’t matter then it could have just been called Iron-Boy with a new character that is somewhat similar to Spider-Man and that would be fine. It’s just too many changes that I just can’t get behind and Tom Holland isn’t that great as the character honestly.
@alexhayden2195 жыл бұрын
@@christianbjorck816 I just can't agree here. It is a good Spider-man film. Yes, things are changed. Part of it is certainly the rights issues, but I'm sure some things would be changed, anyway, because it's the third version in a relatively short time. Some of those changes do annoy me quite a bit, but I think Tom is the best version of the three. I like the way he fits into the universe and the relationship he had with Tony and how that affected him. In spite of the differences and the way he fits into the universe in a (i think) nicely cohesive way, I think he is still very true to the character. I don't think that a completely 100% accurate to the 60s source would fit well as a movie taking place today or as a part of the MCU that would make any sense. I think that the character is intact and reacting mostly well to the circumstances he finds himself in. Yeah, Ben's unmentioned, some of the Miles stuff has been transplanted into Peter's life, other characters have familiar names but unfamiliar faces and personalities. I'm annoyed by it, but I also like most of it. But Peter is Peter. I think his character is pretty well intact and he's simply in an alternate universe, reacting to it the way Peter would. And I think in costume, Spider-man is the best he's ever been. He's proven himself without Stark Tech and he's made his own tech. He's Peter and Spidey through and through, but does have certain advantages the classic young Parker didn't have. All of the MCU characters have been altered to some degree, while staying mostly true to the spirit of their source. I love the first two Raimi movies, but they changed quite a bit about the character and reinterpreted things, too. Garfield was written as the worst Peter. Even though names were the same and it was technically closer to the source, it was a terrible two movies and the character of Peter Parker was a mostly unrecognizable person. Anyway, just my opinion and I'm sure we won't agree. I'm glad that you think it's a solid film, in spite of not thinking it's a proper Spidey. In spite of the differences from source, I think it's one(two) of the better MCU films.

The new MJ put a sour taste in my mouth when I watched it. As a character she's irrelevant in homecoming, you can replace her with literally any character and it serves the exact same purpose. I know it’s one of those “it wasn’t in the movie so it doesn’t count” cases but the Russos explained in an interview that Cap jumped back into an alternate timeline with Peggy and then returns to the main timeline for the shield hand off, just not to the pad. They said they might explain it in future media. So it fits with the way time travel was established in the movie.
@dragonknightleader15 жыл бұрын
Which is why the Multiverse is such a bad idea for the MCU. Suddenly all weird stories get shoved into alternative universes so that no one has to care about continuity. So, here's my explanation of how we get old Cap. We see a total of THREE universes in Endgame. The first one is the one with dead Thanos, the second one is where Loki got the Tesseract (which rightfully should have fucked the Time Heist), and the third one where Tony meets his dad and Steve meets Peggy. So, Cap returns the Tesseract to universe 3 after going to universe 2 for all the other stones where he lived out his life with Peggy. Which means he waited 70 years to come back as an old man to give his shield away when he could have done that as a young man. So he Steve got inexplicably lazy. Why? Much like every Universe 3 scene, character epilogues matter more than the story itself and if that means deus ex machina to do it, so be it. Which is why Endgame isn't that good of a movie. It doesn't even obey its own fantasy rules well.
