With the penultimate episode on the way, Lucasfilm treat us all to a wonderful Mandalorian cameo!
...and with only one episode to come, we are gifted with an Ashoka Tano cameo!
...and with just a single chapter on the way, they give us a cool Cobb Vanth cameo!
...and with the last show coming, they give us a fabulous Luke Skywalker cameo!
...and with the final instalment approaching, they give us a Grogu cameo!
...and with the only feature remaining before the finale, they give us a pretty dang swiggle swaggle bing bang awesome Cad Bane cameo!
I think there was a story in there?

I still appreciate some of the worldbuilding aspects of the prequels, and I superficially loved Attack of the Clones when I was growing up and consumed the key-jangles of Jengo Fett, etc. But regardless of how bad Disney Star Wars has gotten, I don't think you can seriously say that the prequels were good/great movies.

Well no if Anakin had of listened to the Jedi teachings and wasn't attached to Padme then Palatine wouldn't have had any leverage over him and everything would have turned out fine. If you take away the Jedi's strict rules nothing would have changed in the end, whether or not their love was forbidden the emperor still would have been able to exploit it. The other bad argument is that Anakin's love for Padme only blinded him because the Jedi way made him super desperate for attachment, which might explain how a traditional Jedi turned bad but doesn't make any sense with Anakin because he completely disregarded those teachings and had been hooking up with Padme for years and on-top of that he is good friends with Obi-wan as well, so the idea that Anakin was this ball of pent-up sexual tension and anger is just stupid. The Jedi didn't contribute to his fall at all the only mistake they made was teaching him in the first place.
@darken2417

No, actually the flaw wasn't in the Jedi way it was in that they broke the Jedi way by training Anakin at too old an age. It was specifically not supposed to be done because it would be dangerous. Yes have Luke completely disagree with this since he also was too old and way older. But you don't have to make the force ghosts like it and you don't have to make it right even if it is more humane by our standards.
@schwaaard
@schwaaard 2 жыл бұрын
@@darken2417 Never understood the Jedi logic on that score. “Too old to be trained”. The Force doesn’t just go away. The powers will manifest to some degree, and they can be developed just enough to be dangerous without training. (Particularly when the only training we ever hear is, “Feel the force flow through you”.) Not to mention that there is a dark side beckoning, and dark side users are more than happy to take abandoned or curious pupils under their nefarious wings. So the whole concept of shunning someone because it’s dangerous seems a bit broken; it would be at least as dangerous-if not more so-to add the sting of rejection to someone who knows they have some kind of power that can be developed. Yoda’s protest of Luke being too old in the OT came across as more of a weak excuse than a serious concern, and he quickly capitulates. It's either yet another way the Prequels failed to connect to the OT, or age wasn't actually that big of a deal. If Anakin's fall was largely because of his age, then I'm sure Yoda's protest about Luke would have been much more adamant and definite; the last thing he'd want is to risk creating another Vader. I can believe it's not ideal, just as it's not ideal to try and teach anyone a special skill too late in life; it's much harder to create new pathways as we age, and the competition has had years of development. Learning can be done (and sometimes late prodigies are found in several fields), but the temptation to take shortcuts would be greater. Wouldn't say it's preferable to leaving a highly-Force attuned individual with enough knowledge to make him dangerous, but not enough to know why. ...Life was simpler when it was just the OT...

I'd prefer if the way actually isn't flawed to make the Jedi a bit more gray. That to prevent the rise of the Sith you actually do have to be cultishly trained from youth and that training you otherwise is dangerous. That said I do think Luke would have moved away from this position thus ticking the force ghosts off. And maybe they could influence one of his students to make a breakaway sect. I can totally imagine a scenario a generation or two later where its Sith vs New Jedi vs Old Jedi.

I really enjoyed the way legends treated this, where Luke figured out that it was Anakin's inner conflict between his feelings for Padme, his duty to the order and the feeling that he couldn't trust anyone to tell them about his conundrum, that drove him to the Dark Side. So Luke's response was to do away with the rules against Jedi relationships for his New Order. But I guess learning lessons isn't what you do in Disney Canon.

This can only be a few years after RotJ, do they seriously think we'll buy that Luke has suddenly spurned all familial attachment after proving the emperor wrong and saving the galaxy through the regeneration of the love between father and son? The force ghost stuff always was a wrench in the franchise. Like how there were no force ghosts that we see in the prequels or how they can't just pop up whenever to warn you of stuff. Best explanation I can think of is that it functions through the will of the force and so they can't just show up for any reason but even that is iffy. Or maybe it can only happen a certain amount of time after death or after you first force ghostify which explains why we never see Qui Gon. But of course Disney doesn't try to balance it out.

@@darken2417 Qui-Gon was the first one in a long time to figure out how to become a force ghost and Yoda is the first one able to establish contact and learn how to do it himself. So that's why there are no force ghosts in the prequels. That's explained at the end of ROTS, I think.

I don't think this is a fair reading, since it's not just attachment that's being discussed here but a commitment to one particular creed for life. Mando isn't just a friend of Grogu who can help him along his path, he represents an entirely different lifestyle and clan who not just have historically been the enemies of the Jedi, but require just as much commitment to their way of life, even non-children of the watch, as the Jedi do and Luke believes that he can only pursue one as their ideologies will necessarily come into conflict and every indication shows Grogu would choose the Mandalorians in that instance so it would be better to let him pursue one identity completely over pretending he can be both. Even in the old EU, Luke's new Jedi order had friends and families, absolutely, but they were still committed Jedi, they didn't have loyalties to other groups that might present conflicts of interest. It's not like being friends with Han and Leia, since it wasn't as if Han expected Luke to be a smuggler AND a Jedi, or Leia expected him to be a politician AND a Jedi, they all had different roles and supported each other in those endeavors because there was no conflict of interest in their friendship. But unless Mando swears off Grogu being a Mandalorian foundling and allows him to commit fully to being a Jedi, Luke doesn't at present see how he can reconcile those two life choices. If they have Luke spouting the pre-empire philosophy of the Jedi, denouncing attachment directly, in future episodes then what you say is true and they simply don't get it. But until then, while I definitely see where this take is coming from, I don't think it's fair to characterize it the same way as Luke's friendships.

Young Luke's voice is completely synthesized by an AI algorithm, based upon the recordings of Mark Hamill during the OT era. That's why the "performance" is so robotic and awful; they're literally just taking words and syllables from previous materials and stitching them together to form new sentences. It's a slightly higher tech version of that episode of South Park where after Isaac Hayes had left, they had Chef say loads of crazy things by stringing together words from previous seasons. So here, with Luke Skywalker in this episode (and his appearance in Mando season 2), you have a deepfake voice and a deepfake face and the resulting soulless abomination is... progress, I guess?

If someone just appeared out of the void and started walking up to me my mind would be on maximum alert. Like...ready to draw my pistol if need-be and probably walking back to my truck to get my pitbull if there's time. People don't just appear out of thin air... They came from somewhere, and wondering where exactly that is when there are no other buildings or vehicles around is the kind of thing that triggers a basic survival instinct as if you just found out you're possibly surrounded by predators but can only see one. To your point though, Grogu wasn't being offered to "go" with mando, he was being denied any relationship with mando at all. including just seeing each other. He was given an extreme binary to cut all connection with his only friend or reject the Jedi path. Luke rejected that binary in both empire and return of the Jedi.

4 things. First off, I'm sad that EFAP missed Mando not having his jetpack just so we could have a shot of him laying down on a bamboo bench. Yes, it's supposedly a safe planet, but in that scene and leading up to that scene, Mando wouldn't have known that. Actually, just thought of another problem with Mando's ship: where does he put his jetpack? Does he just wear it and press it against the seat behind him? 'Cause that would be terribly uncomfortable. Secondly, Cad Bane states that the fish syndicate hired him to prevent Cob's town from joining Boba by either paying them or threatening them. Terrible negotiations aside, Cad Bane definitely failed. He not only killed the deputy and shot the Marshall, but he then just left. I get that Cad Bane is supposedly this highly awesome guy, but the syndicate really should've hired someone a little more capable. Thirdly, Luke is just hypocritical in this last scene with Gooey's choice. If you choose the armor, you can't be a Jedi since you chose attachments. Meanwhile, LUKE goes against Yoda to rescue his friends thus choosing his attachments. Also, Ahsoka is just plain wrong. She states that Anakin fell due to his attachments, but Anakin fell due to his _fear_ of losing said attachments. As long as Gooey isn't dragged down by the idea of or actual death of his friend(s), then he can still be a Jedi, right LUKE? One last thing, Ahsoka tells Mando that he shouldn't see Gooey since his presence will hinder Gooey's progress or whatever, but, if my prehistoric memory of Clone Wars is correct, Plo Koon was the one that found little Ahsoka and her progress didn't seem hindered whenever they saw each other every once in a while. Or maybe it was considering how intelligent she is today though she wasn't any smarter back in youth from what I recall.
@KGLordofhollows
@KGLordofhollows 2 жыл бұрын
"She states that Anakin fell due to his attachments, but Anakin fell due to his fear of losing said attachments." So if Anakin didn't have any attachments, he wouldn't have fallen to the dark side...I love how you also forget the part where Luke, when he defied Yoda, faced Vader and almost got killed (which he would have been if Vader wasn't his father). Neither Yoda nor Luke are incorrect when saying that forming an attachment will lead you to the dark side. Also, Plo Koon didn't raise Ahsoka, he simply was the Jedi who brought her to the temple. And yes, they created a friendship over the years, but it's not like they were inseparable, their "bond" didn't interfere with her training. This episode had it's stupid moments. Luke should be saying that we have to able to control our feelings, not ignore them. To be able to separate ourselves from those we love when needed, instead of being unable to form attachments.
@J__T
@J__T 2 жыл бұрын
@@KGLordofhollows Your comment confuses me. I can't tell if you agreed with me or not. But I do disagree with a few things you decided to mention: "Neither Yoda nor Luke are incorrect when saying that forming an attachment will lead you to the dark side." Yoda literally never says that. What he does say is that Anakin should be very careful since forming a very close attachment can lead to jealousy and greed thus the dark side. What Yoda says to Luke is that only a Jedi Knight with Force on his side be able to defeat Vader. If anything, it's Obi-wan who states to Luke that attachment leads to the dark side (despite Ben literally watching his greatest attachments die right in front of him and there was no dark side to be found there), but even if this was true, then we're forgetting context. Luke was willing to pause his training in order to save his friends from the second baddest guy in the galaxy, yet Gooey just wants to stay in touch with the guy who found and took care of him for a while. This choice was before the show's finale which Gooey should be out of the loop on. EFAP themselves were confused about why he couldn't visit. Pulling all these things together, we get Ahsoka being hypocritical since she and Plo Koon, the guy who found her and took care of her long enough that she later remembered him, have a similar relationship that Mando and Gooey have. Keep in mind that saying goodbye is always tough on toddlers which Gooey is one and it's not like Mando is going to stay long term or anything. And Luke being hypocritical since even insinuating that he broke contact with his attachments is obviously untrue from all the movies' dialogue and scenes. The choice in the end of this episode is just plain weird and only serves the purpose of establishing a Mandalorian season 3 despite this way ruining the ending to season 2--both shows suck, why am I pointing it out. What I'm mostly confused about your response is this first bit about "...if Anakin didn't have any attachments..." you immediately contradict this line of wonderment at the bottom, so I'll just say if he did then episode III would've been a lot different with Palps dying way back and the OT literally couldn't have happened since there would be no Vader or Luke or Leia and no Death Star or Empire. "I love how you also forget the part where Luke, when he defied Yoda, faced Vader and almost got killed (which he would have been if Vader wasn't his father)." I love how you also forgot all of _Return of the Jedi_ where Luke struggles with his attachments of both Leia and Vader (which makes this portrayal an even bigger hypocrite since it insinuates that Luke doesn't believe in his potential students--Luke's folly when lifting the X-wing).

My "favourite" part is probably when Fennec says they need foot soldiers. I genuinely couldn’t believe it, and had no idea how he was expecting to be in charge of anything with no one willing to work for him before this which is REALLY a strange concept since there were plenty of soldiers when Bib Fortuna was in charge so where did they go? I just cannot believe how poorly this story has been told. The idea of Boba Fett being a mob boss is such an awesomely cool idea, but you don’t even give him a mob to be in charge of? In addition to, maybe there is a village somewhere that has had a whole day of training, had a montage, and maybe repaired the AT-ST. A village full of reliable people, one who had a crush on Mando. Now why wouldn't they go to that village? Oh right, there was someone there who helped them. I think her name was ... Kara Dune. Now whatever happened to Kara Dune? I mean Disney didn't do anything with that actress did they? Wait a minute... As much as I gasped with consooming awe when I recognised the hat… I have to say, I *REALLY* don’t like this. It wasn’t just a better story, but it made SO much more sense when Boba killed Cad Bane at the end of the Clone Wars. Not only did it elevate him from being a bratty kid to an actual threat but it was an important moment in his development growing into someone who was worthy of taking up his father’s armour. Likewise, it very neatly explains why Boba is the greatest bounty hunter by ESB but Cad Bane is nowhere to be seen, because he’s dead. And Boba always having the dent in his helmet is a permanent reminder of who he had to kill to get that reputation in the first place. And sure, the show was cancelled before they could do this, I admit that’s not their fault, but there was a way they could have done it; Introduce the story over the Martez Sisters in S7. Think about it, both Ashoka and Boba were lost and alone, so it’s not unrealistic they could team up for a while and have a journey of self discovery that pushes Ashoka back to the Republic with Bo but leaves Boba as a bounty hunter. That could have solved all the problems there instantly. But while it’s awesome to see Cad Bane in live action, and the memes have been nothing short of incredible lmao… it does raise the question of how Boba got his reputation when Cad would suffer no one to be the best, how he got the dent and why he’s nowhere to be seen in the Imperial Era. It’s not bad writing that he’s still alive, per se, but I think there was a better story here tbh. Or hell, they could have the best of both worlds and bring Daniel Logan back for a series of flashbacks featuring Boba ending with Cad’s death. Just in general, seeing Boba’s past would be much more useful than whatever he’s been up to on Taatoine, would help establish his character changes much better at least. But like I said, it all stems from a lack of ambition and the fact that they didn’t care one bit about this character. The show’s awesome premise is just a vehicle for them to do what they really want with it. 🙄

I generally agree that Bane being killed by Boba during his 'rise' would probably have been a better story, but you do need to remember that as you state they never actually followed through on that idea _and_ they went on to have Bane working for the Kaminoans in Bad Batch after the end of The Clone War (the actual war) which already at least muddles the chronology of that story. I do agree that having a teenage/young adult Boba (I don't recall how old he is supposed to be in ESB) duel (and most likely kill) Bane, receiving the dent on his helmet in the process would make a much better story though. Personally not sure if I would have liked it in TCWs purely because I don't like the idea of Cad Bane being taken out by a 14-or-so year old, even if that 14-or-so year old is Boba Fett. Edit: Oh, also Fennec shows up in Bad Batch and fights Bane a bit. Still not sure how I feel about that, but I just felt like pointing it out since its probably about to be slightly relevant. Then again knowing these writers, probably not.

@@deamongimli I think people need to get over their kid hating, there is nothing wrong with a teenager killing a villain, especially in a reasonable way such as shooting him with a gun. You are right though, they've made all these small attachment points, probably just to acknowledge the characters are still alive out doing things to preserve them for later exploitation. All of Disney Star Wars appears to have been unfortunately a massive waste of time, and perhaps even more unfortunately something that still made Disney plenty of money.

To me personally, I'd be asking a ton of questions like "why would he come this far to see me, then not see me?", "why even bother to give me something if you're not gonna give it to me in person?", "does he hate me?", "does he think i'm ugly?", "is he going to come back again?", "was he told not to come see me?" That’s probably the contributing factor to Anakin falling to the Dark Side and becoming Darth Vader. He was shamed by the fact that Jedi weren’t allowed to form attachment, yet he was in love with Padme, which caused him to go to extreme lengths to protect both. In legends continuity, Luke allowed Jedi to form attachments and even get married, because he understood that his father suffered emotionally and that those emotions can lead to ruin, but can also lead to redemption, like how he redeemed Darth Vader. So… Why is Luke making the same mistake here?

BOBA should have been a Crime themed show, crime boss (Scarface - lacky to crime boss). Giving it a different feel and experience would have refreshed the story telling, themes, the universe and the viewing pleasure of people tuning in. What do we learn of crimes or being in a syndicate? What crimes is Boba engaging in. Why do people pay him tribute? What does Boba actually do? What influence did the empire have on the syndicates and what influence do the rebellion now have on the crime families? Why in (apparently YEARS) do the Hutts come to claim the palace from boba, when Bid F had it for years, and why didn't the Pikes just take it over from Bid F? Were they previously in a gang war with the pikes on other planets that were more pressing? No answer for you, you get a Lame duck Wookie and a giant pet doggie with emotional problems.. BYE! How is dropping a bunch of characters into a show expand the universe? Is that expanding the universe or simply filling it up? If this show/Crime Family was a business. Show me how the business works. What's your product? What are you manufacturing? Why do people need it? Who's your competition? How does the machinery work in said business? Who do people get those services or product? THEN you fill up the building with workers (characters). This show is an empty factory (no machines, product) with a sign out front saying, "Crime Boss" and people just shoved inside to fill it up doing nothing but taking up space. Simply proclaiming "I'm a crime boss!" and showing no crimes or explaining how things work is not expanding the universe. Instead of explaining,..... HERES ASHOKA! HERES LUKE! MANDO etc etc etc. Quick throw them into the show! Rogue One, Solo and the Mandalorian Has more teeth, then a show about Crime Bosses. They did Boba Dirty in this show. He's more "badass" in the Mando show, then in his own show. Mando S2 set up Boba Murdering and taking the throne...then the show he proclaims "I shall rule with respect, not fear!" The end stinger in Mando and what we got, was a bait and switch. I wonder how people would have felt, if Boba just politely asked Bin F to nicely climb down the chair..... Hmmmm something to think about... kzbin.info/www/bejne/sJ20dnR-apuKoJI "In Canon, ...unless they retcon that too" Disney is turning Star Wars into Star Trek Discovery or Star Trek Picard. A Scarface-esq show set in SW universe would be a nice approach, but Boba isn’t the guy to do it. He was okay in Mandalorian, but they put him on a really bad path; the more I saw of him, the more I shook my head ruefully. I think they could have done Boba as the more ruthless version of Mando, showing two approaches to the trade without either being too “good” or “evil”. Boba wouldn’t have spared Grogu; business first, no questions. Less compassionate, more efficient. And though he’d be older and a little less physically able, I think Boba would be far more resourceful and adept. Could explore the tradecraft of bounty hunting, having him mix it up with rival hunters, Empire remnants, etc.., Lots of ways to go that wouldn’t be a Mando retread, but instead they shoehorned him into Tatooine and made him a crotchety husk. More’s the pity.

This episode could have easily been two hours, there is so much that could have been covered such as; Ahsoka and Jake should have so much to talk about. Ahsoka being trained by the old jedi alongside Jakes father and Ben Kenobi, then doing her own thing in the clone wars ( dont know didn't watch it apparently she leaves the jedi because she doesn't agree with them or something). Mando could literally ask to be trained in edgesaber fighting, hell he could join the jedi faction since he's no longer a mandalorian anyway and it's not like he knew anything about his factions history or lore anyway, it was all dumped on him by blacksmith lady. Grogu is somehow 50 but also a baby, he was at the jedi temple and knows how to force heal and somehow Jake doesn't use this powerful ability to save himself in The Last Jedi. Jake fucking Soywalker straight up saying attachment bad as if he's a jedi of old but it was his attachment to his friends and family that in the end saved the galaxy. His training of Grogu is bizarre from running around the woods with him in a backpack to then shooting lazers at him and showing of lightsaber moves? Whats that about, where was that in Empire. No actual teaching of any kind just action stuff. Remember how Yoda would talk about the force and what it meant to be a jedi well fuck that, too boring got to spice it up. Grogu just getting handed a light saber, isn't creating a lightsaber usually the final stage in jedi training? So why is Grogu being handed one at the start of his training outside of nostalgia and key jangling? Also since Grogu could live to 900 what's stopping him from chilling with Din for the rest of Dins life and picking up jedi training after. Ye sure there is the 'too old' argument that loves to get ignored in star wars but he's 50 anyway. According to some timeline I found Episode 3 is set 19 years before Yavin and Mando is set 9 years after, so Grogu is 22 at the time of order 66. Anakin at age 10 is too old but Grogu being a 22 year old baby in diapers is somehow fine. This episode was such utter garbage and we still don't know anything about the actual crime situation the faction involved the whole show should have never been made. But that's just my subjective opinion.

I’ve been leaving a comment on the more normie sections of YT reactions to the show that goes like this “There are so many cameos on this show I wouldn’t be surprised if Boba Fett turns up at some point!” And it’s semi-popular with lots of upvotes and a couple hearts because people interpret it as a light joke pointing fun. It’s not. It is the single greatest problem with the show. I don’t even have a problem with the fan service, really. It’s good fan service, I squealed like the most pathetic consoomer when Luke and Ashoka were on screen and when I recognised that damn hat… but why is it in THIS show? Why did they not just make a show where Boba Fett was a badass crime Lord? That idea just writes itself; take Maul’s plot creating the Shadow Collective from TCW, stretch it out, add in some thematic elements from The Sopranos or early season GOT and some high budget Disney action and you’ve got a banger of a show! But they didn’t. They just couldn’t wait for more cameos that they just HAD to derail it and make it about Mando again. And it’s not even that which I’m pissed about, it is the absolute lack of ambition in how they lazily just slapped together whatever they could for the actual Boba sections, Jon Favreau clearly didn’t care about any of it, and that’s the good faith interpretation. The bad faith one is that the show was made terrible on purpose so these mediocre reveals and reactionbait would look even better when in the context of the power rangers. It’s clear they didn’t want to make a show fully exploring this premise for what it actually promised, they didn’t care one bit, and that really is the biggest sin of the show for me. They could have made an amazing miniseries but instead all the wanted was more jangling keys, and even if the keys are very cool to look at… they’re still just keys. This whole show was just a damn waste and there’s no reason they couldn’t have done this in Mando S3 since this is clearly all they care about. FFS.

This is, in my opinion, the worst episode of this show. Maybe even of this "Mando continuity". Starting off with an easy one. Where the hell is Mando's jetpack? Is ths N-1so un accommodating to his needs he literally couldn't fit his jetpack in it? And if you're curious an N-1 does not have a storage compartment of any kind and it only fits one pilot. The X-Wing, a far more common ship that would be cheaper and more easily maintained, has a storage compartment. So even just a simple X-Wing would have been a better choice. I didn't know they could do it but they went and ruined Luke even more. Disney is dead set on their vision of Puke Skinwalker. I guess Luke is the only one that gets to have attachments. He went from "I used my connection with my father to save and redeem him" to "attachment is bad and gay". Gogurt, this fucking dumb baby that has no problem eating other babies, must decide between his faith and his family. What the fuck? He's a dumb fucking baby that can't even speak. He's going to pick the shiny one because he's a dumb baby. "But he's 60 years old" yeah and for his species he still a dumb fucking baby. "He was trained by great masters, probably even Yoda" what could they possibly have trained him? It's already bullshit that gogurt can do the things he's done (like lift the mud horn, force heal, and stop a fucking explosion) but if you're telling me that this FUCKING BABY is cognitive enough to be taught force techniques we've never seen any other jedi do, then he's cognitive enough to know that EATING UNBORN CHILDREN IS EVIL! I'm a martial arts instructor, and let me tell you, it's a pain in the ass to try and teach 5 year olds. You really just try to make them have fun so they stay. When they're older you actually start to try and teach them self defense. And those are 5 year olds, well past toddler age. Gogurt is a dumb fucking baby. At that age you're trying to help them not choke to death on their own fucking spitup. And Ashoka is not only ruined but they robbed us of one of the most important and impactful scenes this shitty company could give. Ashoka meeting Luke. The former padawan of Anakin Skywalker, who was one of his closest friends and knew him better than almost any one, meeting his son. There is so much damn potential with this concept. Even if all we got was a scene where Luke tells Ashoka that he saved Anakin and that it was his father that defeated the emperor. seeing Ashoka's reaction to that news would have been an easy slam dunk. But no, we're going to trade the payoff for absolutely nothing. God aren't Dave Filoni and Jon Favreau saving starwars. The best part was the dumb as hell Cad Bane scene and only because he seemed to, AT THE VERY LEAST, resemble his character. How did he walk all the way out there? Why did he walk all the way out there? Why did he go alone? Why didn't people shoot him when he turned his back? And the most important question of them all, how will they fuck up another fan favorite character? So pretty standard episode all things considered.

It's not really character assassination it's actually likely Luke would mostly use the old teachings, it's just bad writing that we don't see Luke come to this conclusion. Sure Luke himself started training late and had attachments and he turned out ok and saved the Galaxy, but Anakin disregarding the rules and forming attachments literally caused the Jedi purge and is what fucked the Galaxy in the first place. The traditional Jedi way of training from early childhood and forgoing all attachment has reliably turned out Jedi knights for centuries, where as the way Luke was trained seems to be about 50/50 and was only done because Yoda didn't have any other choice. Sure Luke would never abandon his attachment to his friends but that doesn't mean he would choose to train all future Jedi to be like him.

Palpatine basically promised him nothing, but Anakin was still willing to sell everybody out and almost get himself killed because the obviously evil old guy said some spooky things. @@zappodude7591 I don't disagree that it's half-baked but it stands that the only reason Palpatine had any leverage at all was because Anakin disregarded the Jedi's teachings and if Anakin had just listened to them everything would have turned out fine. This episode is just yet another spotlight being thrown on how nobody at lucasfilm understands Luke Skywalker's character at the end of ROTJ. While this was executed poorly in the prequels I understand what George was trying to do with the Jedi. They were too dogmatic about suppressing their emotions so that there was not even a slight temptation to ever go to the dark side. The fatal flaw in this logic is of course that everyone has emotions and not everyone can just can't bury things inside forever. What Luke realized at the end of ROTJ is it's about the "balance" between logic and emotions. It's about accepting that you have emotions and feelings but not letting them run you around. Look what happened during his fight with Vader, he was antagonizing luke about turning his sister over to the dark side. Luke let his emotions get the better of him and was very close to striking down his own father in anger, even if it would have been justifiable given who Vader was. This was shown when Luke notices that Vader's hand is robotic much like his own, telling the viewer that Luke is becoming much like Vader is metaphorically and literally. But Luke did not give in to that temptation, so much to the point that he even threw away his best means of defense against the most evil creature in the galaxy just to demonstrate that he can't turn him no matter what he does because he loves his father. And then we have Disney and Dave filoni's interpretation of Luke Skywalker, or I just refer to him as Luke skinwalker at this point. Aside from the fact that he is telling a literal baby to make this life-altering decision, he is forcing him to make a decision that the previous Jedi order basically made to Anakin Skywalker about his mother. And well we saw how that turned out. I actually hate so much what they did. I remember as a kid watching Star wars and having very superficial reasons for liking it. But like most kids I wanted to be a Jedi, I could move stuff with my minds and I could use a lightsaber. But as I got older I began to understand the more mature aspect of Luke Skywalker, of what it means to be a person. But at this point why would I ever want to be a Jedi if this is what I would have to do in order to be one. Luke skinwalker is not even a character, let alone a person at this point.

This is just one small example of the betrayals to come, my friends! The rebellion sold you a false bill of goods to overthrow our empire! They don’t even care to help the Jedi they lauded so as such great and honorable heroes, what makes you think they’ll care about you, here in the outer rim? You’ll be cast aside and forgotten now that you’ve served their interests, just like the old republic did… But the Imperial Remnant hasn’t forgotten you. Even in exile, we work to rebuild our forces, and establish strongholds to defend those of you who remain loyal to The Cause, not only from Republic expeditionary forces, but from the criminal elements that have plagued so many of your worlds for so many centuries. Which is more than the republic could ever say…” Why can’t we have nice things that take advantage of the idea that the remnant would become a subversive element, and essentially start to copy the rebellions homework? Fun little trivia piece about Yoda's lightsaber. In the pre-2014 Legends continuity, the old Locations Guide for ESB confirms that he actually still had his lightsaber, he had just chosen to shelve it while he was on Dagobah. The RotS Novelization also established that he was able to grab it after his battle with Palpatine and cut his way out of the building instead of using a random shaft. In the post-2014 Disney Canon continuity however, he was unable to retrieve it. In the 2017 Darth Vader comic run Palpatine destroyed the lightsaber by having it burned as a public event. This is how little current Lucasfilm cares about the narrative integrity of their universe.

And... there it goes. The very soul of the OT has been completely undone. Luke "giving in to attachment" with his faith in Vader is what saved the galaxy. He proved the Jedi were wrong, that such bonds cannot be ignored and they're as much a part of the force as anything. And what did he learn? Nothing. He has somehow unlearned what _he_ discovered - what _he_ had to show to his own teachers. He's been reverted to the old rigid Jedi ways to preserve the "clever deconstruction" of the sequels - something that the OT and even the Prequels already did better. Disney has not changed. My point with Padmé is, if Luke's love is what saved Anakin, why couldn't Padmé save him? Was her love any less pure or true than Luke's? No. The simple fact is Anakin had to make the conscious choice to turn away from the dark side, and he wasn't willing to do so with Padmé, he was still fully under its influence. It's the same reason interventions fail for addicts. Love alone isn't always enough to reach the addict. More often than not, they have to hit rock-bottom before they're willing to admit their addiction and accept help.

@@kacktustoo Considering he was a slave until being accepted into the Order at 10, I'd say he was pretty damn stable. Aside from being a bit arrogant, impatient, and frustrated by Obi-Wan's teaching methods, all perfectly normal things for a prodigous talent to feel, he was a perfectly normal and capable young Jedi. Until his mother died in his arms of course. But even Mace Windu had been won over and supported Anakin going on a solo mission. So I don't know what you mean by that. Anakin was an extreme case, I admit. The Force was particularly brutal to him with those visions, as if it were purposefully driving him down that path. But, that doesn't change anything I said.

Me when I see cad bane as the sixth legacy cameo in this stupid show: “WHY ARE WE STILL HERE, JUST TO SUFFER FROM ALL THIS KEY JANGLING!” While we wait 2 hours for the vid here’s a question for chat (or for any of the efap guests and host), what do you think bout a Star Wars property (movies,games, tv, etc) having licensed music? Do you think it would work, or would it break your immersion of the universe?

I never thought about it but now that you point that out I realy don't want that to happen, Star Wars is known for it's music and that would just ruin it. Also, I have to say that his cameo seemed like the best one for ne.

I want to hear all of the mouth breathers that celebrated Luke's "return to glory" in the mandalorian. Because now we get to see more of him and he's a complete disgrace to the character again. Why is it hard to write Luke Skywalker? You have his entire character laid out infront of you. Just watch the fucking OT. Luke would never tell someone they have to abandon all attachments. It's the complete fucking opposite of what we see him do in the OT. He cared about his friends more than anything. He was willing to die for them. Now he's telling Grogu to abandon them completely? It's one thing to explain that he can't let fear motivate him or not to let attachments control you. But to just tell him to cut off all ties to the outside is insane. Luke was never a his radical cultist that Disney thinks he is.

There was a time that any EU characters making it to live action was a pipe dream and unheard of. Now that is coming fast and frequent with little rhyme or reason, it’s coming off as pandering, desperate, and fanfic-y. And for better or worse, Star Wars under Lucas never felt fanfic-y.

@@BetterCallStan I don’t know what Disney and individual head canons entail, but the Expanded Universe pre Disney subjugation, I mean acquisition, was defined as any elements, characters, locations, etc that was introduced outside the movies. And as for Disney canon, it established that Han was married to a stunning and brave black female and that Jyn Erso, not Luke Skywalker, was the hero of the the battle of Yavin 4. So I don’t put much stock in their crap.

Luke said that if he chooses to go with Mando that he will forsake the Jedi ways. But giving him Yoda’s lightsaber is contradicting the Jedi ways. The final test of a Jedi is to craft their own lightsaber. Vader said it to Luke in Return of the Jedi.

The whole "pre-Empire" starships not having an ID meme is bananas. The N-1 is a royal escort vehicle. Between Naboo and Coruscant, both of which were the Emperor's "home" planets and had extreme imperial presence and oversight, there's no way the ship wouldn't have an ID. Filoni even had episodes about the Empire issuing a new ID system. People who say the ship is good for evading authorities are lunatics.

"The Diner of Dex: Episode 2" [Fade In] For some reason, Dex isn't seen in this episode at all this week. Instead, we follow Jar Jar Binks as he helps his people with building houses in their ancestral homelands (which is in the woods now, their old place under the water got blown up or something, idk). However, they soon hear a dreaded sound approaching... ♫...Now he's got a branch line to call his very own, he's the Really Useful Engine we adore! He's the one, He's the Number One, Thomas the Tank Engine!...♫ "Oh bother, I'm going to be late!" said Thomas as he activated his miniature death star lasers, blowing up yet another village of Gungans. Jar Jar though, hoping to redeem himself after the events of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, bravely takes on Thomas and defeats him. As the train falls though, his cargo spills over the ground and Jar Jar accidently steps in some. Boss Nass, seeing Jar Jar, approaches him and says: "Yousa stepped in bantha poo-doo! This is against sacred Gungan religions! Yousa exiled until you bathe in the sacred Member Berry Juice of Tatooine!" Jar Jar thus leaves to restore his honour, this event being considered worst than the time he voted emergency powers to Palpatine. He finds the sacred Member Berry Juice on said planet hidden behind a large metal door with a weird logo on it that says 'Walt Disney'. Upon entering the sacred Member Berry Juice baths though, Jar Jar notices something. "Moi Moi! This is bantha poo doo!" The dirty secret of the Gungans had a last been uncovered and when Bea Arthur approached Jar Jar with an offer to help Dex in his fight against the Gungans, Jar Jar takes up the challenge."

For the first two seasons of Mando we were wondering why Mando has been so irresponsible with Grogu with bringing him, an infant, on all of his harrowing adventures. Jesus please someone take custody away from him. Luke comes along and on the first day, does acrobatics with the infant giving Grogu shaken baby syndrome, and then has a droid shoot at him. Lol it's like the, "Upgrade, fuck go back," meme
