My interpretation of the ending of the first movie is that it was the mother’s dream. Nancy really managed to beat Freddy in her dream and he gave up on chasing her for a while because it got dangerous to approach her, but he took his frustration out of that by killing the mother. The ending scene with the car eating Nancy was a part of Nancy’s mom’s nightmare. At least that’s what I got, idk man these movies are fucking insane
@Troublechutor
@Troublechutor 15 күн бұрын
Well after the first movie there was no promise of a sequel, so I just assumed freddy won in clasic 80's slasher movie fashion. They brought Nancy back for 3 just to try to inject some life into the franchise and it worked (though the actress was pretty weak). You really don't NEED an explaination about the ending of 1, it could have just been a regular nightmare (not real freddy) or he let her go so that later events could play out, or he was actually weakened by nancy and had to re-constitute himself. Any throwaway line would have worked, but consider that Nancy doesn't know why she's alive either (because she didn't try the tactic from the first movie with the kids in 3)
@mordirit8727
@mordirit8727 14 күн бұрын
@@Troublechutor My headcanon of it being the mother's dream is entirely based on Nancy saying that her mother died, which to me makes the most sense if we assume the final scene was Freddy killing her. And yeah, no doubt it was entirely retconed on movie 3, but to me the 3rd movie deserves this level of good faith. The movie is the first in the trilogy that actually tries to have a script, so a retcon of the ending of the 1st movie that actually even works with what we knew is something I'm willing to give them
@Troublechutor
@Troublechutor 14 күн бұрын

I hope you guys read comments. Because with the wizard kid they showed him playong d&d. Hes a nerd, so of course his power is a wizard, but he got cocky because of his power (partially because he can walk in his dreams) and he rushed freddy, but in d&d wizards are squishy, he should have known better, but he made a poor "role-playing" choice. Got a bad roll, and freddy physically over powered him. Actually a pretty good death for a d&d nerd.

I think that's both writing what's not there and wrong. Kid's gimmick was being disabled, dnd was just flair. And even if what you describing was indeed the point of that scene, writer did a bad job explaining it to a general audience of the 80s that wouldn't get it. So it's kinda lose-lose

Wait really? So does that mean 2 4, 5 and 6 don't count at all ? That doesn't make sense because you need 4, and 5 to know what happen to the characters in 3 and 6 you need to know what happens on elm street because freddy got them all. Well sorta because we don't know if freddy got the characters at the end of dream child and then wes craven new nightmare which it just it own thing that is not cannon and freddy vs jason explains why jason is back and freddy needs him. Mauler very important thing to note, the final scare at the end of movie 1 was not part of Wes Cravens' script originally; it was originally supposed to end with Freddy's defeat but the studio forced him to add the last scare to ensure they could do a sequel( which was why he chose not to work on the 2nd film)

Holy... now this is what i was kinda expecting with NoES. For the issues. Instead of the whole skeleton part, they could just have it so Freddie (realising what's happening in the real world) stops trolling and gets serious. I'm not sure if Freddie can be in multiple places at once (when the kids were split up) but if so, maybe have that be the reason why he kills the wizard boy, like wizard boy gets overconfident and gets too close to Freddie (as we see in his scene) and then Freddie gets in a desperate lucky swing injuring wizard boy which would shift the dream back into Freddie's control (i think it's fair to assume you'd panic after being stabbed in this situation). With the rest of the dream cast, i guess the mirror scene still happens and then fake dad shows up as Freddie's final move to at least take Nancy down with him.

Nancy is "still alive" because in the theatrical release of the first film (and the most commonly seen, back then), it has a generic happy ending (as pushed by the studio), in which Nancy just drives off in a non-Freddy car. Release of the original Wes Craven ending came later on. Nowadays it's kind of a toss-up on which one more people have seen.
@TheFirstSword
@TheFirstSword 15 күн бұрын
That's actually backwards. Wes Craven pushed for an ending where Nancy defeats Freddy and moves on with her life which was thematically appropriate. Unfortunately that ending had a problem in that it was undisputedly conclusive. The producer wanted to have an ending that left the film open for sequels and pushed for the ending where Freddy picks up the kids in the car. Apparently Wes Craven's influence on the twist ending was the mother getting pulled through the door getting used, because it was the alternative they found most amusing compared to what he originally wanted.

@Troublechutor
@Troublechutor 15 күн бұрын
Regardless, Nancy doesn't know why she's alive either because if she believed her strategy in the first movie worked, she would have tried it again in 3, but it never comes up. She doesn't believe she won, and doesn't know why she wasn't ultimately killed. Practically, the couldn't re-hash the first movie, or if they did it was edtited out. For the most part, 3 runs tight and is well edited so "world building" wasn't a high priority over just selling tickets and getting paid.

Only semi relevant, but Dokken is awesome. Also, it's weird that their song "In My Dreams" wasn't used either instead of or in addition to "Into the Fire". "Dream Warriors" was written for the movie.

The fucking _balls_ on this movie to suddenly decide to make an actually decent horror story 3 movies into the franchise. I never understood it. Imagine if Sharknado 3 was suddenly a well executed character drama about people surviving a disaster, that’s the whiplash this one gives me

It kind of makes me think back to the old Puppet Master movies where the third entry is far and away the best one. Even if it is fairly different in terms of structure compared to the rest of them. Though that series had an issue of jumping back and forth whether or not they wanted the monsters to be the good guys or bad guys at any given point.

When I remember liking Nightmare on Elm Street it suddenly hit me that this was the first Elm Street movie I watched with my uncle(who allowed me to watch this stuff when I was younger because he was cool.). So revisiting it here, I can see why I liked it a lot. Not that I dislike the first film because it does do some things that I enjoy. But the third film very much felt like the concept at its best where the rules were established and you had some decent characters to bind everything. Learning that the same guy who wrote this did the Fly, Blob and many other good horror films makes a lot of sense. All in all, thank you EFAP. I may not always agree with you but this is definitely a film I plan to rewatch.

I wonder if the Wachowskis were inspired after seeing this movie? You could even rewatch it as Morpheus's origin story and the rules are broken when Freddy's skeleton reanimates because it's all happening inside the simulation. The Matrix sequels establish that monsters like ghosts, werewolves, and vampires exist as Exile programs, so Freddy could also be an Exile.

So, this was written by Shawshank Redemption guy ? This indeed explain why I also remember this to the best of Elm Street films. And I found it funny how many careers started with this series; Johnny Depp, Patricia Arquette, Frank Darabont and Laurence Fishburne... Ok, who would win in a fight; Morpheus or Freddy ? Can knowing Kung-fu save Morpheus from Freddy's exploding birds ? 😂

Actually it was written by Wes Craven, he just didn’t direct it like he did the first movie. The first movie ending also was not his idea, it was the studios, which is why he refused to come back for 2 because he hated the ending for 1 they pushed for. While he didn’t direct 3 he did write for it, wanting to fix and undue the damage that had been done, and they did a pretty good job I’d say. This movie did have 4 writers (which yeah one is the Shawshank guy) but Wes Craven was the head writer of my memory serves me.

This and the final one, New Nightmare, are the only ones I enjoy. New Nightmare is really good for the first 2/3 similar to this film, and I enjoy the meta aspects of it especially given how early it was made. All the rest of the Nightmare series is pretty awful though lol
