4:39 The smoke of the candle shows that there is ~0.1m/s wind from left to right in the room. ... just this wind is with power switched off, just do the same and switch power back on.

In reference to your circuit, i plan on placing the transformer, resistor & the IRF3205 (with heat sink) in a small plastic container filled with mineral oil. The two leads from the transformer will protrude from the oil. I am trying to cool the components & reduce any possible arcing. I will 'try to remove' the ferrite material from the transformer & use different & random ferrite rods for experimentation. I plan on using magnets attached to an insulated rod & placed in different areas of the ferrite material. My two goals are to have an inexpensive & simple hi-voltage power source to power a small tesla coil. I wish your students & yourself success with your experiments.

Hi, thanks for the comment. At this voltage level it is not totally necessary to immerse things under oil (if something breaks it is a mess to replace it when it is under oil). I have used the same circuitry to drive a Tesla coil before (kzbin.info/www/bejne/oKTRgqOgf7d7e6M) However, notice that this circuitry is rather inefficient and is only good for short term tests because it is very simple circuitry. Good luck with your Tesla coil

Very interesting experiment. I think it would be possible to determine the direction of the ion wind by using a thermal imaging camera to observe changes in regional heat. I am not sure. Hope you can handle all things well in 2022.😃

Yes, by thermal camera can be easily detected. but no money to buy a thermal camera now 😅
