Hello, probably you would have used a cream containing steroid, which has resulted in such side effects. Please consult a dermatologist. First you need to improve your skin texture and regain it's lost barrier. Then only you should use depigmenting creams or other procedures.

Doc,how to identify dermal vs epidermal hyperpigmentation . I had pigmentation on my face since 3 years just because i irritated my skin with so much with creams and i use to steam and extract comedones myself and drag with the exractor tool .By doing this my skin becomes red and then turned into dark patches like melasma on my face.it has been there since three years. As you mentioned the patches are not that dark like the pigmentation formed from acne but lighter in colour but still noticable. Can i know is dermal pigmentation is permanent or not. How to identify dermal pigmentation from epidermal pigmentation. Pls reply

Hello, dermoscopy is the only way by which we can distinguish epidermal and dermal pigmentation other than clinical examination.

Doc , Can you help me where can do dermascopy.can any dermatologist could do it? Since l work in abroad it is very expensive for skin treatment. Is dermascopy is available with every derm.pls reply

Hello, Dermoscope may not be available with all dermatologists. In Kerala there are many dermatologists who do dermoscopy.

Yes, it is available at our Aluva branch. On clinical examination dermatologist can distinguish between epidermal and dermal pigmentation by seeing the shade of pigmentation, it's margins and distribution of pigment.

Skin tan or darkening due to sunexposure is not permanant why? Also some sunscreens cause more darkening when use. How long does it take to form a new skin in face completely

Because of natural skin renewal over time. It is usually 28 days but may vary as you age. Sunscreens tend to make you look darker after leaving it on for some time. This is because it's components are getting oxidised after exposure to sunlight. If you don't apply sunscreen the same changes will happen to your skin and your skin will look darker.

Oral sunscreens are available but usually given in photosensitive disorders only.

Hello Melasma is a resistant pigmentation that can rebound and recur on exposure to sunlight, so permanent removal creams are not available.

Hello, if you work a lot in front of desktop or under indoor lights, you can develop same level of pigmentation as under sun due to chronic exposure of blue light from computer and mobile screens. Use a good sunscreen with broad coverage indoors as well. Reapply once in 5 hours for good photo protection. You might be sensitive to some creams which you are using on your face. Get a dermatologist opinion for identifying the problems suitable for your skin.

It could be, as your thin skin skin around eyes are constantly exposed to blue light emitted from mobile screens. Try to use a broad spectrum sunscreen for protection against blue light.
