As a Reddaway driver the writing was on the wall much sooner. Companies that try to gobble up their competitors are usually bitting off more than they can chew. Reddaway took a turn for the worst every time the absorbed other companies (Uniteed Dugan Bestway.). The equipment takes a turn for the worst. Dispatch & maintenance are immediately in over their heads. Corporate greed and mismanagement go hand in hand while circling the drain

@@mattsellman999 let me dumb it down for you the law is if a company is ceasing operations without 60 days notice there will be lawsuits in California, they knew this was coming but they kept workers believing they might have jobs up to the very end , so that those same workers could not go look for other jobs in the meantime, because they thought they were gainfully employed, it's a worker protection act, all of the safety and labor laws you have today are thanks to the union work, I just assume people will do their own research prior to making uninformed ignorant comments,yellow needed those workers to bring trucks back to the terminal so they kept quiet knowing the end was near,yellow will just close down then come back with a non Union company, like consolidated freightways , which became con way which became XPO and now is STG , the executives are playing with people's lives, that's a very dangerous game, yellow got 700 million in bailout money, where did our tax dollars go , they should go to prison, just like other trucking company owners who defrauded the government for relief loans,I want my tax money back , where did the 700 million go, did it go to Ukraine or Russia or Taiwan, where is it ?Biden and his son are criminals and should be charged with treason

What’s bad for the former driver’s is they’re union. If a company like Swift / Knight off jobs they’re just going to scoff at it. “Work as a scab?” It’s beneath them. The union’s there for the driver’s which is how it should have stayed industry wide. But companies like to keep the money for themselves while workers who truly make the company get screwed.

With Yellow out of the picture, undoubtably the other LTL freight companies will most likely take on more customers. Some questions that we may see answered in the future about these other companies is, can they take on more customers, and will the workers demand more, for doing more, without these companies raising prices? 🤔
@Jarl_Thidrandi

Most of the other LTL are doing very well. They will hire new drivers, take on new accounts, buy more trucks, hire more drivers etc. Yellow died because the management was so terrible we all believed it was being done on purpose just so they could raid the coffers and run while they sank the ship. The union workers gave money out of their paychecks to keep the company going all we did was grease the head honchos pockets. They got $750.000000 (million dollar) bail out and still couldn’t make it I retired in 2020 I am thankful I did it. I feel really bad for the ones who lost their jobs. What any company has to be concerned with from this, is if they gobble up a larger portion of Yellow, they may get over extended financially and end up the same. This economy is volatile. Fuel prices are high and fluctuating. So much is affecting companies sales, and their shipping needs. I work at a D.C. and Our orders are up and down so much more because of who is in the Whitehouse, because of prices being so high, and economic uncertainty. It makes it tough on shippers. I'd keep it under control, let the assets be shared around, and not get too hungry. Stay in the black right now, all you can.

As far as employees go, we had a layoff at Yelliw in 08. Drivers that went to non- union carriers didnt last long there. They'd come to the driver room when they were called back after about a 6 month furlough, regailing us with horror stories of how they were only @ the non- union firm a couple of weeks. Either they couldn't stand them, or the company fired them. Not so much wage issues, complaints were work rule, & benefits, related. Forcing them to run illegal, pay their own scale, @ defective equipment fines, no down time pay, etc. Most Yellow runs are "gravy trains"! Senority ruled. Good home time. Starting new @ a fly-by-night scab firm will be a shock to men that had it good!

My x husband whom worked for roadway for over 27yrs back in 2007 or 2008 yellow merged with roadway. My x worked for roadway B4 the merge many yrs. An things started looking bad when they merged. They closed the hub in city he worked in. , an he transferred to Coldwater mich , then he retired there about 2yrs later. This is just so terrible that yellow couldn't seem to keep company workers paid , too many bonuses to upper staff office an management in upper rows an leaving the workers high an dry. , Even after a 700 million bailout from government not too long ago. Pretty much we know who got all that money. It surely was about back into the pockets of drivers an dock workers that's for sure , now another bankruptcy. An think with the reputation the company has now they would ever keep or get any truck drivers or hub workers to work for them. Mis management , I'm proper management of bail out funds. Why don't they make the upper management sell their million dollar homes ,cars , boats , pay back for the elaborate vacations they took on the bailout money. An put the money together to pay their workers. I hope there is going to be strict procedures should this company be allowed to file bankrupt after they just had a 700million bailout few yrs ago.

Agreed! Can we just throw out the production matrix and serve the customer like he's the only one we have? When UPS bought Overnite, the first thing they did was take 52 sleeper teams off the road and put those on the rail... it was not only cold-blooded, the service failures climbed because of derailments, floods and maintenance-of-way issues which occur without warning. Good luck with that... While Southeastern, R & L, Old Dominion, Estes and FedEx's Freight division are not always perfect, they're focused on consistent service without a claim. Radical thought!

Yellow freight is going out of business because of greed. This video explains it very well. It's not because of the union!!! Yellow was greedy, they bought another company going out of business awhile back and to much money went in there pockets and not there company. If not for unions these companies would be poor man's pay and no benefits. Young people have not experienced this because of the unions being fought for. Of course the union is gonna get the blame, someone has to. The companies owners aren't gonna take the blame. The fact is if Yellow wanted to, they would down size and still be running business. They've got enough money they are not themselfs out of anything. This is how greed runs the world. My husband is a retired trucker, he did city and many years over the road and had to fight to keep his pension. If not for the union alot of truckers would have lost all they had put into it. I wish you all well and lots of luck. Don't give up, hopefully you'll find a equal or better job. God bless.

Whats bad is non union companies don' t want to hire former union workers. I used to work for Yellow years ago in Florida when they closed a big break bulk terminal. I was a mechanic with a class A CDL no non union trucking company would hire me because of being a former union member .I knew it was going to be a up hill battle, I worked at non union companies before going to yellow. But that was before the labor shortages . I wish all Yellow employees the best accept the sorry manage at the top that ruined this once great company !!!!!!!
@overtime6696

Two observations: First, you guys don't communicate well; just sayin'... Second, someone with deep pockets will buy most of Yellow's assets; I expect that to be TFII, out of Canada. The CEO has already hinted at the possibility... FedEx Freight and Old Dominion have about 300 terminals in the network to service the nation-- T-Force needs another 100 terminals to fill out the system. You can't serve the customer well on a 200-mile pedal run and expect to cover all the pickups on the route in a timely manner. Missed pickups = angry customers-- and when you consistently miss pickups, people don't forget. Trust me. Next, if you choose to put a customer's shipment on the rail, be transparent and explain the risk, because it's there. Tell the customer the damn truth-- because they will eventually learn the truth anyway. At that point, you have lost them.

Not really! I work for Estes. When Central closed, we got all their rolling assets. It was refurbished and put on the line. LTL carriers will run a truck until the wheels fall off. Then, they will weld them back on and put them on the line! The truck I drive , as well as many on the yard, are old as hell! Transmissions and odometers have been replaced many times but, it keeps running!!!!
