@JoyInTheLight5 жыл бұрын
👏🏾👏🏾 Yes! We're all different. I only occasionally used grease before going natural over 20 years ago. Back then I relaxed my hair and it was super-thick & long. When I first went natural I found that grease & most oils just sit on my hair & jack up my curl pattern! Yes, my scalp needed moisture and maybe oil, but my hair does not like it at all. If it's mixed into a product it's a little better but my hair will protest every time. *Sigh* my search continues for a grease or oil that will stay on my scalp on not get on my hair OR that my hair likes.

Davinci sullivan you are completely right. I know plenty girls with her hair types that don’t have her issues. The scalp produces it’s own sebum and if ppl just leave their scalp alone it’ll be fine, unless they have a medical condition determined by a MD or NP. This is basic biology lol. Grease is over drying ppl just don’t stop long enough to notice the difference and aren’t use to their scalps working the way it’s suppose to. Any oil will seal in moisture, a good one being, Argan or pure jojoba oil. She didn’t post any scientific resources to these claims either. Or even just basic chem to connect the dots. Haven’t used grease in years and my hair is producing plenty of oil. I invest in good deep conditioners as well. I don’t use a lot of coconut oil because that’s straight protein and you can give your hair a protein overload, just like you can give your hair a moisture overload. If someone does use grease you only need it on your ends and there are PLENTY of oil based products that aren’t expensive that are non-comedogenic and blue magic isn’t one of them, the first ingredient is mineral oil. Plus companies can slap anything on a bottle as say it doesn’t clog pores. She also contradicts herself when she says dermatologist (as if all) recommends petroleum for extremely dry skin but they also say avoid clogging your pores, every skin type is different so everyone isn’t getting prescribed the same medication from the MD. Or just make your own and put a preservative in it, it’s not that hard.

When I first went natural 18 years ago, before there was a movement or videos, I used what my dad told me to use- grease and water. He would hate it when my mom permed my hair and would be like, "I don't know why you're doing all that! All she needs is grease and water". And babyyyyy when I used grease on my natural my hair, it was so lush! I never had knots, and barely any dandruff. Then the natural hair movement happened, all the girls were talking about how bad grease was, so I listened and tried something new, you know, the butters and oil combos, etc. Then multiple combinations of cowashes and deep conditioners. My hair started to knot up so bad and I had dandruff after like day 2 of wash day (and yes I oil my scalp, what you think this is). Anyway, long story short, I found this old jar of grease in my cabinet a few months ago and was like, what the hell. Babayyyy, when I tell you!! When I slicked that grease onto my scalp, my scalp literally SCREAMED, "HALLELUJAHHHHH!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣 My scalp caught the holy ghost and got delivert, ya'll. It felt so much healthier, I don't have to apply it as often and my hair stays juicy. Plus I have like 90% less knots. Now I do use this natural ingredient grease, but I'm happy I went back!

I'm for anything that works for your hair. Don't use grease because of the heaviness and it has the tendency to get all over every thing. I use coconut oil and Shea Moisture. But think the best way for your hair to grow is to just leave it alone. I usually keep my hair twisted and pinned up. My hair grows about an inch per month, but the secret is taking care of it so it doesn't break off.

@@BlackHipsterGirl it keeps my hair really soft and moisturized. I use the dark green one. I know the one you're talking about, its pink/red? I use it too, to seal in moisture also, but not in my scalp just my strands. It keeps my hair detangled too. FOR LIKE A WEEK I dint have to do much of anything besides style it a little. I just dont use a ton because it definitely can block out moisture if you arent careful with your moisturizer underneath, I go ham and then seal it up with the grease and I'm good to go. I have really thick highly porous 4a hair. I typically use heavy products. Shea butter is my usual sealant but my hair doesn't care for it anymore it does nothing 😂 and oils don't really work for me alone at all
@BlackHipsterGirl5 жыл бұрын
@@shhhh6174 yes it's red. I have 4a hair too. I haven't tested the porosity but it does take well to oils and grease. When you think about it grease is made from an oil. It's mostly mineral oil
@shhhh61745 жыл бұрын
@@BlackHipsterGirl that's true but on it's own oil is just too light for my hair, I have to apply too many time and that's when I start getting that drying effect because when the oil dries out the moisture dries out. I just dont like my hair being gunky with product so reapplying is no good for me, and washing and conditioning too often is really bad for me. The grease just is heavy enough to let me stretch from week to week almost without having to re wet and moisturize my hair. I had long hair when I was a kid and my mom for whatever reason took me to a salon and they gave me a perm and cut all my hair off! I just went back to my beautician about a month ago now and had her trim my ends because I had health issues. I thought my hair was jacked up. Nope she blew it out and it was long! She cracked open the Blue Magic grease and the smell took me back! My natural hair is so long and it didn't lose moisture at all. I had it straight for over 2 weeks. It wasn't greasy at all. I have been using this grease along with Queen Helene’s Cholesterol (just to name a few) since the beginning of childhood. These are some of the grandfathered products that get no respect in the “natural” hair community. When I was attending hair events, people would comment on my hair then asked what my routine was. When I mentioned greasing my hair, I swear the whole darn room got silent. Chile.....I still grease my hair and have bomb results. So happy you did this tutorial. Now all the “naysayers” about to be “yaysayers” lol.

I just recently started using hair grease on mine and my daughter's hair. I couldn't take how dry my hair was and nothing seemed to fully moisturize. Grease has been a game changer and a lifesaver!❤

My grandmother kept Blue Magic, and my mother still uses Dixie Peach, Royal Crown, and Sulfur 8. My mother's hair has been long all her life. Hair grease is a good thing.

If you’ve used grease and it dried out your hair, that’s because you didn’t apply grease to hair that was moisturized in the first place. Grease is a SEALANT and seals in whatever moisture is in your hair so it doesn’t escape so easily. Do not blame grease for dry hair please.

Ladies I want to take time to say thank you so much for the advice on the hair grease. I did a co wash and I used Palmer's Olive Oil Formula Gro Therapy. OMG. I am so loving this so much. I have a lot of moisture, shine and definition in my hair.

Sooo glad I came across this video so I can share it. I’ve been telling people all I use is Blue Magic to maintain my hair that’s what I grew up on; some fail to believe me that I don’t spend my money on all of these other types of products. One key thing we must do is make sure our hair is not “DRY”. Blue magic is my hair oil and my edge control period.
