Sounds like I'm going to need to get my panel heater calibrated.... I can't imagine trying to explain to the customer that I'm testing the charger like that. Plug in the kettle, toaster, bit of breakfast aaaaaaand it's commissioned 🤣

Hi thanks for a very clear video and I'm sorry I've only taken 10 minutes or so to read some of the other comments, but the questions that come to mind straight away is, it looks like your using a single pole RCBO, I think chapter 722 says the supply RCD should be double pole, also I assume there is an RCD in the charger, which means you have RCD's in series, does that have to be type B in the board and type A in the charger? we've only done a couple of chargers so far, using SWA cable so no RCD required in the board. it really is about time BSI used plain English to make the regulations less ambiguous, thanks again

Does the Power line adaptors have to be on the same circuit at either end, also can you use wago connectors for the CT pair instead of jelly crimps?

Wow that’s a really easy charger to install but seem a bit of a long job ? I like it in theory but highly unlikely I will have any thing to do with EV chargers . But I might give it a go ?? Fantastic video as always Joe 👍👍👍❤️

What burden resistance do they use in domestic CT loads? My worry is that CAT5 is only rated up to 125V. And where do they saturate if you lose the burden? It doesn't look like much there is super-secure against going open circuit?
@GlynHudson
@GlynHudson Жыл бұрын
The burden is inside the CT together with clamping diodes to limit any possibility of high voltage

Question: I move into a house with an Indra charger on the wall - how do I get access to the App?
@robertwilliams7222
@robertwilliams7222 2 жыл бұрын
They would have the address on their records. You would just tell them your the new owner. I think the problem would be a new house owner removing it and selling it on eBay because they don’t want it and the new owner trying to get the App.

I find the design choice for the data cable connections curious. It would seem to have been better were they to have routed the pin 4 & 5 from the RJ45 socket wherever they needed them - and thus allowed the use of a standard cable - rather then relying on the installer to make the connections. Doing so would have required a custom fitting on the other end to make an appropriate connection which would be an additional cost. But if you're marketing on the quality of your product why not do so? A 2 socket RJ45 face plate and a 2-conductor flying wire wouldn't amount to much.

@JasperJanssen 2 жыл бұрын
The computer board is not designed or produced by Indra, it’s a standard seeed board. It’s a competitor to the raspberry pi, basically. So there’s no opportunity for them to tap off conductors off the rj45 plug. They could have put an internal harness that splits it off in that way, but what you have to remember is, this is a minority of installs, so they’re not going to supply it as standard, and if they offer it as a paid option, most electricians are going to diy it anyway.

Hellishly complicated (and expensive) for what's basically a weatherproof socket. So we've gone from not needing an earth rod, to needing an earth rod, to not needing an earth rod and back to needing an earth rod? Might wait for 'no earth rod needed' to come around.

PLEASE EXPLAIN: All the training I've done for EV devices tells me it is vital to get the CT clamp the right way around on an AC supply 😂 It's measuring RMS current! What is this magic? Or is it just a pervasive myth. Pleasee, I really want to know! I would love someone to explain that and how I am wrong. I can see how it MAY make a difference on 3-phase, but on single phase, I just cannot imagine how. N.B. I feel fairly reassured as the instructor that Im supposed to be listening to in the Zoom call Im in right now just referred to the Neutral Conductor as the negative!

It’s measuring the direction of current flow
@biaelectric9066
@biaelectric9066 2 жыл бұрын
@@efixx In AC? What does that mean in terms of AC? If there is a direction, it is DC. We are measuring Amps, not mA. Do you see what I mean? RMS (root mean squared) removes the sign (+/-).

7:24 kinda weird .. using fine stranded cable non yellow/green for earthing and put a ferrule on it ( not neeeded in thesere style connector blocks ) would probably not approve here . Earth rod always solid core ( or multi solid cores ) and yellow-green here .. don't think a solar cable would pass inspection here . But hey isf this is way it's allowed in uk it is :-)

As he mentioned - the earth REFERENCE arrangement in this video is not a fault path, this is to monitor the potential difference between the physical ground/earth and the CPC (if I remember from the previous video correctly). If this were a fault path - this arrangement would not be suitable in the UK to my very limited understanding.
@kittsdiy

@@cheeseburgerbeefcake possible . but kinda confusing . We have mostly TT net here .. so no CPC from the the grid company = providing own earth rod or loop .
@JasperJanssen
@JasperJanssen 2 жыл бұрын
It’s not earthing in the sense of the CPC. It’s a measurement cable that happens to connect to the literal ground. It *needs* to be *not* protective-earth colored specifically to make sure you don’t confuse it with a protective earth.

Here's an idea; build the power line adapter into the charger and then just provide the other part to connect to the router. It's always amazed me that routers don't have this built in themselves.

One thing that bugs me all the time: why on earth doesn‘t anyone install a hager vector distribution board or even better a Haget ZB main distribution cabinet!? Like Hager VE212PN or VE312PN OR a really nice Hager ZB55S for new construction? Just why? Those shitty small consumerunits are just junk!

Nice electronics (Raspberry Pi?) but ugly design of the box. We HAMs don't like Power Line Adapters due high EMC polution. As driving EV's since 2014 I can assurre you that for the callibration with an EV the battery SOC is not the only reference point as a very cold battery will charge very slowly (low current) so this must be taking into account
