I am aware that he wrote a book defending Olam haba but he also wrote that jews dont need to keep mitzvot only the שבע מצוות בני נוח and that many mitzvot are just symbolic lehavdil. His biur book was made so young assimilated jews could learn German. All his children converted to xtianity, and some of his descendants even became nazis

Unfortunately there was a massive wave of assimilation at the time and many were converting out, usually for social reasons.
