i think the commentators were spot on most of the time. incordona is an encyclopedia of one pocket

It's nice to see some appreciation of Billy Incardona. Most of the time people moan about him talking too much, it's like they don't even hear what he says. His commentary is always very knowledgeable and experienced, I did learn quite a lot from his observations. For instance his commentary in the "Tactical 8-ball rack" video with Efren against Busty.

Your dad was a pretty feared one pocket player for a while. He might not have been as big a name, but literally all of the other pros know who he is, and not many of them were in a big rush to gamble with him.

Haley Durbin, I've watched your dad play one pocket more than any other player. I've also gambled with him many times, getting huge spots, but I have never seen him shark his opponent and that is a huge compliment in the pool world.

Great action. One pocket is best game ever. OTH, if you would not like to see Ronnie O'Sullivan play one pocket then I gotta laugh at ya. The man can definitely swing a cue.
@johnmorris53979 жыл бұрын
The commentator wore me out by saying position and reposition the cue ball. Most pool players would simply say - put the ball in the rack, or put the cue ball on the cushion. Good match, one pocket is my favorite pool game!

I'm listening to the commentary, and so far at 24:30 these expert analysts haven't been right yet. One thing analysts all seem to do is UNDERESTIMATE Reyes. That man sees shots that most players can't even conceive of ...and he sees them three or four shots ahead of the action! Color commentators need to learn how to shut up when Reyes approaches the table.

Think of it like war, or even chess.. It’s like war because there’s forward positions, retreats, end runs, flanking, and desperate charges.. And it’s like chess because there’s a beginning, middle, and endgame, plus the cue ball is all powerful, like the queen.. And don’t be too hard on yourself... There’s maybe 6-8 people in the entire world that really know how to play that game..
@trumanhw4 ай бұрын
@@jacobjones5269 well ... a few more than 6-8. But the level of offense these days ... is almost making the ability to actually really play OP a dying art. The weaker players don't know what they don't know, and, they can't learn from great players, bc they just runout from absolutely everywhere. Steve Cook, Jack Cooney, etc ... people who actually lack some of the offensive ability in their later years ... but who make up for it (massively) with their cunning and wiley maneuvering are who to learn one pocket from these days ... if you can find people like them. And then, knowing what to do doesn't really matter if you can't control the cue ball with the precision of Alex P, Effie, Chohan etc ... as they do when they have to get out of traps. It's just incredible how precisely they move the CB through CB sized gaps. Unreal talent. That aside ... I really really like your answer. I tried to think of situations to describe, but, you speak maneuver warfare. :) The one thing you missed ..? Ambushes. lol. :)

@@trumanhw And ambushes are rare because I’ve seen it all.. But yeah, the game, much like a lot of other games (not just pool) has been broken by the skill level of the masses.. Only a few really dangerous dudes back then, and I had one of most dangerous in my car.. Helluva weapon.. Guy played world class 9-ball too.. A couple other points, tournaments are no good, it’s a game for gambling.. And finally, there are ways to keep behemoths from getting in gear, but I cannot share that info because it’s top secret.. lol..

@@trumanhw One other thing that may help the original poster understand the game better… It’s a game of constant calculation.. Made for actuaries.. Risk/reward is everything.. A newcomer to the game may understand the goal, and structure of the game… making balls in your pocket.. But they probably will get confused at first watching players go about their work. A shot may be passed on, for various reasons, that they don’t understand.. It’s about risk/reward..What’s the score, do I need to be aggressive here, or passive?.. Or hold the line?.. Yes, I can make this shot, but what happens if I don’t?.. Can I lose the game?.. And that’s why I stole Jersey Red’s quip… 6 guys.. lol.. It’s hyperbole that speaks to the truth..

cliff didnt spot the ball back after shooting. the announcer stated the score was 6-2 reyes, cliff owed 1 ball for the scratch and didnt bring it to the table after pocketing two balls.
@Prospero6254 жыл бұрын
I'm beginning to understand the game. Looks like you can only shoot the ball into your one pocket only. If you happen to shoot it to your opponents pocket it will be his score. Correct me if I m wrong.
@jacobjones52693 жыл бұрын
That’s correct.. The two pockets at the foot of the table are in play, and each player is assigned one.. If you make a ball in any of the other four pockets, it is spotted after the player’s inning is completed.. First player to 8 balls wins.. Now, if you scratch or otherwise foul, you must spot one of your balls, and if you don’t have one, you owe it and must spot it after you make it, or, after your inning is completed after making a ball.. If you owe a ball and your opponent makes a ball in your hole, it spots when their inning is complete.. If you make a ball and scratch or foul on that particular shot, the made ball doesn’t count, and you still owe a ball for fouling.. This comes up at the end of games when your opponent needs one, and has one hanging in his pocket.. Players will often choose to make their opponent’s ball, and scratch behind it, therefore the made ball spots and doesn’t count, and another ball spots behind it to pay for your foul.. It’s a complicated game.. lol..

the amount of offense these guys retain despite bunting and nitting is insane. Try it some time. Play for money you're anxious about losing ... play in front of enough people to where your ego is involved ... and play about 100 safeties before you have to make a few balls at distance ... maneuvering the cue ball with ball in hand while your opponent has a few easy shots hanging near his pocket. Let's see just how powerful your offense is relative to your offensive ability while warming up to play 9 ball. Hmmmmmm? If you play at all you already know damned well that your game falls by about 70%. Good players only lose 30%. But everyone gets weak. Especially when they're playing on equipment that's absolutely slick as snot ... which is essentially alien. It only exists for about 5 days after you pay to replace it before it'll be used for 2 years of being progressively slower. So how "used" to something that exists for only 3% of the time can even those people who play on it can really be..? Fair..?
