Egg Yolk In Coffee?!

Viet egg yolk coffee comes from Hanoi. They steam the egg yolk in a double boiler while whipping it with sugar and top it onto hot Viet robustica coffee. It appears the version you have is an interpretation. I have yet to see Viet egg yolk coffee replicated here. In Hanoi you can get the whipped egg yolks over everything, even beer! When I visited Hanoi a few years ago, I could not drink enough of egg yolk coffee. It was really good.

@_Mayjestical Arts_ It's mainly commercially washed eggs that have problems. It blasts off a good portion of the shell, you can't really get safe eggs easily in the US but it's not incredibly common to have bacteria in America if you get cage-free eggs. Happy custarding!

i never tried coffee with egg yolk but i've tried tea with egg yolk, it was very smooth and frothy. tasted like milk tea since it also had some milk in it but the texture is different

I think salmonella is mainly in the egg white, and eggs are fairly safe now. (Still wouldn't eat it on a regular basis tho)

I just make cookie dough by baking the flour (raw flour can make you sick too) then I mix everything up without the egg and other leveners. Then all you need to worry about is the butter going bad. That can be fixed by just sticking it in the fridge. I like to make cookie dough ice cream at home and this way I don't have to worry about anyone getting ill.

Vietnamese egg coffee has been around since 1946 and was invented in Hanoi, and is now all over Vietnam. It's been a thing for a long time. It just came to my Vietnamese community in the past couple years and I'm Vietnamese.

Im curious to try it. It reminds me of this other way to make coffee using an egg, I believe a raw egg is mixed with the grounds and then you add hot water. None of the egg gets into the coffee and it stays separate but absorbs the things in the coffee that make it bitter so it’s a smoother and better tasting coffee

I'm pretty sure it's the whites that will make you sick if uncooked, not the yolks. Why else would people eat soft boiled eggs? Or sunny side up eggs? I personally live runny yolk but not sure how I feel putting in my coffee.

Nah, it's not, it's the yolk that has salmonella and other stuff, you just have to heat up the egg to a certain temperature to kill the dangers it may hold

It's safe. People in Vietnam drink it just fine and there hasn't been any problems. If you're that worried, you can drink it hot instead of iced. Also, I've had it and it doesn't smell like egg at all.
