I've never had good results with egg replaces. That's why I prefer eggless recipes instead of replacing eggs in an egg based recipe.

If that happened, it means your batter was too thin. Next time if you want to add nuts, then add less hot water to the Brownie mix so it remains a bit thick to hold the nuts.

If you're melting over a double boiler, then yes, you can melt them together. If you're melting in the microwave, you should melt separately. Because butter will melt quicker than chocolate. And then if we keep heating it, then the chocolate might burn.
