I think the tangibility of Tangle is explained by her being able to slightly press against things but with enough pressure can phase through objects. If she was completely and totally intangible then she’d just fall through the earth

But if it was about pressure she would fall through the earth some good lengh after colliding with it at terminal velocity? What was the force that pushed her back up at all? Just video game logic like an invisible wall or force that corrects your course when you go out of bounds? That's what it felt like. It's never properly explained, though. Eggman being the big mouth narrcacist he is could've and would've elaborated, but the writers wrote something they weren't smart enough or too lazy to explain, so fans are just using headcannon and theories to cope with the contrived writing.

Oh, like the opposite of the shields in dune. Those let slow moving things pass through them (like air, or a slow movement) but repel fast things (like bullets, a fast punch, or even an overly swift pat on the back). So she can't punch metal sonic, but she was able to grab him - but it was also undulating and inconsistent because the traps were just generally wobbly physics.

The tangible issue is likely based on how Tangle is able to "stand" on the ground and "sit" on a railing, by those same rules she should be able to "hold" onto Metal. The reason why she coils her tail around its likely because of the fact that she is intangible not invisible and was just blocking his line of sight since you see him slashing through her tail.

Intangibility powers or states of phasing through matter, like Mirio from MHA or Kitty Pride from X-Men always confused me of how much control is needed for you to phase through walls, but not fall through the ground forever.

My headcannon for Tangles' intangibility is focus. If she can really focus she can interact with solid object, but if it falters she phases through. Going back to the last issue for example she was backing up and didn't notice the wall so because she wasn't focus on interacting with the wall, she phase through. This is why normal walking/running still works because that is a subconscious thought and therefor still works.

I feel like it gets overlooked somewhat, but Silver and Blaze, despite interacting together on some occasions, are a pretty great duo. Seeing them work together in the comics, those who know they’re history from the canon of the games to the IDW comics, know that despite one being from a different time and another a different space/dimension, they compliment each other well as a duo.

This arc and ending was pretty interesting. Shadow was epic and the plot of the "self-sustaining city" was pretty awesome, but the consistency of the portals' ability to change how one interacts with the real world, "scattering of atoms", "dimensional distorting", and other similar stuff here was kinda strange and left me with more questions than answers. I thought Eggman straight up actually killed them through the scattering of their atoms or that the effect of that was much more "permanent" than just an "on and off" type of thing. Also, I love your reaction (15:20) to the little Turtleloid getting kicked off by Metal Sonic. When I saw that, I was literally thinking "What will Nick think of this? Was this intentionally placed just to see his reaction?" XD

While it is a little inconsistent with her sitting and touching people, and wish it was explored more, but I like to think that Tangle has somewhat some control over the newfound intangibility as long as she is calm. Once things start getting extremely stressful, then she looses her grasp over her molocules and starts going through stuff with little to no control.

There is a lot of Shadow love in this comic and I love it!!!! I have noticed lately that Sega tends to forget all the power and abilities Shadow was given when he was introduced. He has so much power that it’s shocking why Sega decided to give him a gun in his own game instead of focusing on his powers. He is such a mysterious character even though he has been in the Sonic franchise for so long and these issues are evidence of it. He never tried to use chaos control without a chaos emerald, but despite that he is able to pull it off without the emerald. I remember not to long watching Chaomix speculate if Shadow needed a chaos emerald to use chaos control and I am glad that these issues answered that. Now that nothing is stopping him from using chaos spear, chaos blast, chaos control, and all those other abilities. I also love Silver’s little pep talk to Shadow. It’s not something we usually see in Sonic’s main cast, but I love it all the same. It gave me Pokémon vibes, but I love it. Silver was repaying the favor (that never happened due to time manipulation) in 06. I would love to see more of those two teamed up in the future. I also love how much time Blaze and Silver got. While I missed seeing my favorite wolf, I am glad to see these two work together.

For me, a sign of well-written sonic character dialogue is when I can hear it in the Adventure-era voices, and that Shadow line about the city being a true monument to the doctor's hubris was one of those moments, being able to hear it perfectly in the Shadow the Hedgehog game's voice. I'm glad that, at least in part, comic!Shadow is getting a little bit back on track to the characterization fans have been wanting

I just immediately assumed Tangle’s intangibility to be wearing off as the comic continued, like the invisibility did. At first, she’s completely intangible, then she’s intangible if she forces her way through things (atoms don’t like being displaced, so it makes sense that they force her out if she’s not actively pushing her way through them), then it finally wears off completely when the group splits up. I’ve seen other franchises do something similar, where intangible characters are forced out of walls or floors if they stop being intangible while in another solid object. Atoms can’t be destroyed, just displaced, and they tend to not like sharing their space with other atoms. Hence the shoving.

Personally, I always viewed '06 Shadow as the definitive version of the character, considering that he had just laid his past to rest and moved on. That Shadow is somewhat surly, sure, but he is ultimately calm and analytical enough to casually throw Mephiles' attempt to turn him against his allies back in the villain's face and has absolute faith in the rest of Team Dark to the point where he reaffirms his loyalty to Omega once the truth of his potential future is revealed.

Look, I rather not have any canon ships and let fans make up their minds and ideas, Tangle X Whisper is extremely obvious and I feel the majority will ship them but like, I rather not have stories about romances and about "oh what can I buy to my girlfriend" or "oh my I saw her talking to someone else, I will be jealous and angry and think they are cheating on me!"... you know, the kind of stories that were on old Archie and I feel like they don't belong here. Tangle and Whisper are an obvious couple, we know it, but the Sonic comics shouldn't be about romances but rather adventures or something I don't know it may be just me not wanting to happen like what happen on old Archie and being too afraid of that. Besides maybe some people ship Tangle with Jewel, as long as there is no official confirmation they have more freedom with shipping whatever they want.

I think the thing with Tangle is that she keeps switching between being tangible and intangible and not controlling it too well when in stressful situations (like a fight or a chase) due to her atoms being sort of...disturbed? Like she has no real control over her own body which is quite ironic for her character and her preferred style of fighting. Her body parts going between these 2 states convincing and inconvincing her largely at the same time. It seems both smart and lazily convinient, but I don't mind it that much tbh

This is a good comic to end off the arc. The artwork in this is just so incredible. A Eggman is truly a menace because he literally pulled a gun and threatened to shoot Tangle's brains out. Eggman was that determined to complete his goals even if it means killing someone or holding people hostage. I love the part with Silver and Shadow. About silver encouraging Shadow to break through this rock that is in capsule in him and I know what the did with the 'it's no use'that Shadow said that kind of triggered Silver but thanks to his words and powers combined with Shadow they were able to break Shadow free. And I love the teamwork and dynamics of the characters. They've literally threw Sonic like a ball charging up more speed and power to impact the machine and channel using his chaos powers to teleport the city off to space before the whole thing blows. And Shadow was quick thinking and creative with his powers. And I love the character development between Tangle and Whisper. They really did grow throughout the arc and they are able to be more happy. And also I got to talk about these artwork behind them showing the lesbian flag. I ship Tangle x Whisper or Whispangle. And they have been hinted to be a thing. And with them holding hands and getting close. And about Tangle learn from her mistakes and her caring about her friends and not losing more and saying sorry and Whisper actually fighting through her trauma. And with the art that they'd gone through I think they deserve each other. It's the best ship ever and I can't agree enough. And also this is one of my favorite ships ever. And honestly that was one of my favorite things in this and I am so happy and amazed! Go Whispangle🥰😍❤❤🎉!!!!!!!

Personally I’d love to see these comic characters show up in an rpg sonic spin off series. Personally I really liked Sonic chronicles and thought it had a lot of potential. Using a spin off for these characters would be a great way to subtly introduce these characters into the mainline and build upon the potential of Sonic chronicles without getting into any trouble with he who shall not be named

A 3rd person shooter with Whisper: We start at the beginning of her career with the diamond cutters and witness all the capabilities of their whisps in the tutorial. Then the bulk of the game is her going around during the Eggman war helping the resistance, gaining knowledge about her whisps and weapon so that she can upgrade its capabilities along with her whisps (think a tech tree that unlocks more nodes as she defeats enemies). A cool rpg shooter that I don’t feel like expanding on at the moment cause I’m more than a few shots deep into this here bottle of Cap’n Morgan Rum. I’m off to hydrate now, wish me luck.

In sci-fi whenever someone has the power to phase through matter it's NEVER applied consistently since that means they would immediately fall through the floor if the power was active, making it pretty useless.

The last couple of issues of this seemed off to me. Like, as you mentioned, the new portals were talked up to be threatening and then did nothing, so the best interpretation was that eggman just... was wrong about them? His own tech that he'd previously tested with prototypes and bothered to make multiple of? It comes across like they just wrote themselves into a corner they couldn't escape with the time available and had to just fudge out of it. Similar the weirdness with tangibility or not, it seemed to just work by plot convenience, there are plausible plantations but those explanations aren't given or even hinted towards enough. A couple other things stood out to me too, my biggest was when Rouge got swiped at by a shadow android hand but then... nothing, the next panel it was as if it just hadn't happened, I re-read that a few times thinking I must have missed something. For as much buildup as the city and eggman's dimensional experiments had, there was a lot of spectacle but a lot less substance and structure than I'd come to expect from these writers.

As Ian says this book is aimed at "12 year olds", so don't think about it too much. They are just getting a paycheck rather than writing stories that have timeless appeal.

I figured Tangle's intangibility was a focus thing, like Kitty Pryde from X-men. Had to try to be solid and, with all the chaos, kept losing the focus and falling through stuff. And while I'm fine with shippers shipping, especially since this is the Sonic fandom, I think I honestly prefer the sort of buddy cop style dynamic between Whisper and Tangle to something romantic. Entertainment value, maybe. Also, has Rouge been getting a little more...cartoony with expressions lately? A lot of funny faces going around, but I'm used to her mostly just expressing sass.

Bro, eggman did a very stupid plan this go around. The three male hedgehog's all can control huge amounts of chaos energy and know chaos control, they could at any moment fully control his city's energy supply and just destroy it inside out. Especially shadow, who honestly would have used chaos blast to kill eggman and himself if everyone else wasn't there. Only thing left would have been a noticable flash of light and a crater. Eggman, you need to stop sleeping on sonics allies. You keep fuckin up there.

I think the next comic arc will revolve around angel island and the echidna clans, maybe even the Nocturnis clan. With the echidna artifact being shown at the end with a close up, I bet it will be important in at least some way in the future idw comics.

You don't know how much I freaked out when I saw the Tangle and Whisper panel that discreetly confirms them as a sapphic couple! I've always loved these two and their ship, but knowing that their creator also ships them made me very happy! And seeing this small form of representation, even if discreet, makes me happy! And honestly, it's good that it was something as simple as the panel colors being the lesbian flag, I've seen the Transformes community when comics started including LGBT couples, so I know that people are gonna hate it. But the Sonic community has a lot of LGBT fans, and having that representation is enough for us! Whistanle 4 life!

Tangle was able to be tangible and not cause of the chaos control induced city blackout from the last issue causing the effect on the portals to make the Neo Diamond Cutters semi intangible. Basically glitching out.

The best I can explain the inconsistency in Tangle’s intangible status, maybe the limiter on the city keeping it from destroying itself is imperfect and is having to reset from time to time which resets her to a tangible state and she goes intangible again after the reboot reset. Or perhaps keeping on of eggheads outdated space distorting traps that he scattered across his city isn’t as big a priority so she occasionally is tangible when power isn’t being diverted to those traps keeping her from interacting with the world.

I tgink the dimensional stuff and scattering atoms across dimensions is a bigger issue of many pieces of Sonic media and the fact that the word "dimension" is just "maguffin" without real explanation or flavor. Frontiers and Forces are especially guilty of this. I do like how Eggman seems to be taking old ideas and making something new, though. The atomizer things seemed based off of the last time in IDW that he messed with dimensional warping, and eggperial city has the same concept he wanted from the Metal Virus. Instead of an army that builds itself, he made a city that constantly rebuilds itself.

Tangle's fluctuating intangibility seems fine coming in waves as victims to a prototype system "early models" as Eggman mentioned in the previous issue when they're forced back to being visible, but defo can be explained more

Shadow dish some traits that was missing what the entire time. Feels like frontiers all over with Knuckles. That animation featured something of knuckles and this comic feature core of shadow. To see sliver in again and Blaze too not much but yes. Like I said, not a whsiper x tangle fan But I would kill for a friendship duo WITHOUT SOME WERID take onto it. Do you if you ship it but it feels tomboys cant be tomboys no more without some... "attachment" i dont know how to word it. But i am happy their on good terms personally. Their friendship is wholesome without SHIP behind it. I did also saw Surge so if they can slide some diamond cutters fighting my Surge. We good terms.

My favorite part of this segment was how seriously Eggman was treated. Throughout the franchise he's usually portrayed as helpless or even irrelevant without minions or a mech, and it looks like the comic is about to do that again until he pulls out his gun. This even goes both ways with members of the cast actually hitting him, though it doesn't go as far as to show him wounded - probably a good call.
