If you are cutting high stuff, should always start at max height and drop down on a second cut. Should also put the "side" chute on to prevent clogging. Can do a final 3rd mulch pass if you want. For normal mowing too, should never cut more than 2/3 of the mowers width, so do go wheel to previous wheel track. I usually do 50/50, line up the center of the mower with the previous wheel pass.

Great review !!! I've watched many and yours is the only one that addresses the issue with trying to pull the mowers backwards (starts at 22:50) after releasing the self propelled lever. This is an issue with my current gas powered mower and it drives me crazy. That alone will swing me to the Ryobi. Thanks !

Reluctantly clicked on this hoping the Ego would 'win' since I just bought one, but given I have a bunch of other Ego tools and batteries, I would have gone with it anyway. Have only used it twice, but find the cut very nice, and it does at least as well as my HRR216 Honda but is much easier to maneuver. I do find I can't do my entire yard with the 7.5 battery, but I can finish up with one of my 5amp batteries. One of the best things about going electric is that I will mow my yard more frequently (I'm retired and have the time) because I don't have to worry about using up the gas and also it's just easier to do with the Ego. Thanks for the comparison.

Yes, heading into my third season with it and still very happy with the EGO mower! I mow roughly 12,000 square feet. You would be close to using up the 10.0 AH battery that my mower came with as I either have to take a break and recharge or grab my blower battery yo finish, but I think (?) the new ones come with a 12.0 AH now.

Great review! I have a bunch of Ryobi power tools and have been wondering if I want to swap my Ego out with a Ryobi mower and just have Ryobi batteries ... nope, keeping the Ego after seeing this video. This is my 2nd year using the mulching blades for Fall leaves, too - used to bag about 15 to 20 bags of leaves a year, but since using the mulching blade I've just mulched them on my yard.

1st rule for mulching ... no more than 2" off the top. You should've used the side chutes on both mowers with the highest cutting height. Have used both mowers ... both are good. However the Ryobi Crosscut does do a better job when used as it's meant to be, cutting from about 5" down to 2 1/2" to 3" high. The battery life was close on both. In closing ... the grass you chose would have given "anyones" brand of gas mower a hard time.

That’s what I found out about mulching. It has to be a certain hight of growth. Tall grass and you’ll get clumps and uncut areas and bog it down. Great area to mow as not a yard but more of a field. Ego is impressive and been on the fence of getting an ego or a gas Honda.

Your video has shown me a couple of things that videos from others have not shown me. I think that I would prefer the shorter handle of the Ryobi when I was mowing, it seems that the EGO handle would put me too far back from the mower - too bad that the length is not adjustable.. Also I like the looks of the Ryobi handle better, it looks more comfortable than the EGO handle. Nice job presenting this info, thanks for sharing.

Wait a minute, I have the Ego select cut xp with the included 56-volt 10 ah battery. And I literally cut down, 22" tall grass effortlessly, time after time without once tilting the mower over the tall grass to cut it. The motor never bogged down at no time, cutting that 22" tall grass and even 1" thick bushes, in fact, you can't Bogg down the motor, that's how power the motor is. So, I don't know why in your video, with that little grass, why it keeps cutting off. The Ego lawnmower is a beast with grass.

When a Li-Ion battery shuts off the first time that's the BMS (Battery Management System) inside the battery pack TELLING YOU it's time to recharge the battery. What many don't know is that OVER DISCHARGING the pack by re-starting the mower after shutdown WILL REDUCE THE LIFESPAN of the battery pack.

Oh, haha. It happens. The kind of blade and how sharp it is can also affect runtime and cut quality. Idk if the Ryobi comes with multiple blade types but I know that Egos comes with at least 2 kinds, and the select cut comes with 3 different kinds and a 4th for the double blade system. Do you remember what kind of blades you had on, and their condition?
@MONTOD

The Ryobi comes with the two blade system, but no variation. For the Select Cut I'm pretty sure I used the lift blade. They were both new mowers and had only been used once or twice. Factory sharp, no additional sharpening.

I bought an EGO 2110 self propelled to make it easier to mow uneven ground in hot weather. Read all the reviews. Wish I had seen info on the battery size and weight before I bought it. If I had I would not have bought it. I have a really hard time handling that huge heavy battery. Do not like it at all. And no directions at all in the manual about what the lights mean. Just directions about blade changing and things I would hire out and never do myself. I have had a WORX 56V push mower for about 6 years. I can grip those batteries with one hand. Like them much better. They are 2 # 2 3/4 oz each vs 6 #5 oz for the EGO. Glad I still have that mower.

I'm not going to lie, I've been a ryobi fan since when I was working in construction and everybody was touting their Milwaukee, Makita and one guy was boasting about his Hilti branded tools, but when it came to the perilous places everyone was happy with my Ryobi... Because when something goes wrong, just drop the Ryobi because it's affordable to replace, where the Hilti needed to be guarded with your life as that's a whole weeks paycheck to replace.... And performance-wise they're equal... If someone is up in the raftors, they'd just toss up my Ryobi and even when it was missed and hit the floor, it keep working like a champ, but the Hilti was treated with kid gloves and still needed to be taken to a repair shop...btw I purchased the Ryobi lawnmower and my wife loves it... Being disabled I can't pull a string start mower and hold the lever at the same time... But I just loaded the charged battery squeezed the lever and pushed the blade- start button all with one hand, and got to work... When I was done I used 2 bars on the battery, even with using the self-propell feature...

My experience could be a 1-off, but I'm frustrated as hell dealing with EGO: (Location GA:/grass type: Bermuda approx. 66oo sq. ft.) I bought the EGO 2130SP in Feb 2021, while I want to give it 5-Star rating (works great when it works). But EGO is getting 1-star from me. I've had a random problem of it not starting (in driveway) or stopping/stalling during a cut (and I'm not cutting overgrown grass here). It's not a battery issue, the battery works fine in the String Trimmer. Also, I can't simulate it at will. In Mar of 2022 I turn it over to an authorized dealer. They had it for 3 weeks and told me they could not find anything wrong with it (Note: it was returned to me very filthy, both mower and charger). Well, the same problem happened again at the end of the cutting season (yes, it ran all summer long in 90-degree heat). At the beginning of this season (2023) it did it again after 2 complete cuts. In APR/May it happened again these past 2 times I called EGO. I let them know I reported this same problem in the past, went through their scripted troubleshooting guide and it worked fine while they were on the phone. Hung up with them and guess what? It stalled again and would not start about 20 minutes into my cut, I finished with my gas mower. The following week it would NOT start again. Before calling EGO, I went through all the steps I from the previous week and it would NOT start on the driveway. I called EGO and of course, it works. This time I was able to finish my lawn (Bermuda, approx. 6600 sq. ft. Here 's my problem, I'm not calling EGO for no reason. It's under full warranty and there is something wrong with my mower. And I can guarantee it's not the typical wiring or relays found on youtube vids. As I said, this happen to me in 2022 and I waited to double triple check to be sure it was not some silly operator error. 1) Charge battery (all green lights) 2) slide into slot (be sure it clicks in place) 3) fully push start button and pull bail switch. The light on the handle shows solid "orange light" while battery lights are fully green. The mower nor the battery is hot and I'm not even in the grass at times when it shuts down or simply does not start. There is no way it's a load issue and be acceptable as working under normal conditions. I follow the 1/3 rule of cutting. I've replayed this info to the EGO reps several times. This should be more than enough info to turn it in. Yet, I can't get them to authorize a real tech to figure out the issue or simply replace it. But then what...I'm out of a mower I paid $600+ for another three weeks possibly. It's a good thing I held on to my 15 yr. old gas mower. WTF!!!

Not surprised that EGO 'Customer Service' doesn't want to honor warranty. I lost track of my mower battery since late March and today stopped by Lowes to see if battery affordable. Would have been $400. No way. Called EGO 'Customer Service hoping they might give me a discount on a replacement. Their answer? "I'm sorry, but you'll just have to find it." My first impulse after that was to put it on the curb, I was so mad ! New mower or not ! I bought an extended warranty, but if it gives any trouble and won't get fixed I will just get rid of it. Won't ever buy any more of their products. P.S. Calling them stirred things up. I just found the misplaced battery !

Great review. I’ve used gas lawn mowers on lawns this overgrown and had to cut multiple times with stopping and cleaning out. So I’m impressed with both electric mowers. After charging these guys up I’m sure they’d both do great lowering the blades on the already cut portions. Hopefully electric lawn mowers keep getting better

I respect your review, but it wasn't equal due to the battery size difference. You can't test a 7.5 AH -vs- 6 AH and think they will last anywhere close to the same time. Also this is not my experience at ALL with Ryobi. I'm not sponsored by Ryobi and I use their products to mow just about anything. I have the same mower and I have mowed 3 ft. tall overgrown grass, 2-3 ft. overgrown ditches full of thick weeds, and much more with a lot longer runtime. All documented on my channel.
@MONTOD
@MONTOD 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks, but I respectfully disagree. The Ryobi came with two 6ah batteries which would be 12ah total vs 7.5ah, and it still didn't last as long as the ego.

Caption said you were using lowest speed with the Ryobi but medium speed with Ego - NOT a fair comparison! Even a gas mower wouldn’t cut that thick and high grass on a low speed. Probably shouldn’t even try cutting that grass with either (or any) cordless battery powered mower - they are NOT made for that. Must disagree with most the other comments that state it was a good review, because it wasn’t!

@@KZSoze - I would have to say it wasn't fair. I don't think anyone noticed the difference in the battery size. The EGO was 7.5 AH and Ryobi was 6 AH. A 7.5 is going to win every time when it comes to runtime.

@@TheBitsonEffect I purchased my Ego, with 7.5AH and rapid charger for $599, which will run for 60 minutes. Ryobi will charge you $750 for a Ryobi with two (2) 6AH batteries and rapid charger, which run for only 70 projected minutes. The Ego will recharge said single battery in approximately 60 minutes. The Ryobi takes 60 minutes per smaller, less efficient battery. I have a couple Ryobi 40V products and the difference in battery and performance is night and day. Ego is far superior. Ryobi is entirely adequate for home DIY.

Ego batteries protect themselves whereas Ryobi's don't. Protect? You might ask. Lithium-ion batteries don't like to be stored at full charge. Just like in the video, battery charge coming back, it's a chemical reaction that doesn't just stop. At full charge sitting for more than 3 months the batter can overcharge and kill itself.(Had this happen with my Ryobi trimmer) All(as far as I know) Ego batteries will discharge themselves down to... 30%(I think. off the top of my head.) after sitting idle for a month. They will even do this when mounted on the charger and not let the charger bring them back up. So before the first cut of spring make sure to take the battery off and put it back on to get a full charge.

I recently purchased a Power smart 26 inch cut 80 volt self propelled mower and it's better than the Greenworks 40 volt self propelled mower and the Ryobi 40 volt 21 inch cut self propelled mower. If I was buying a 21 inch cut self propelled mower again it would be a Ryobi. Greenworks don't come close.
