great video, I like your attitude towards emission standards. EU want's cars to be 0 emission while on the other domestic heating, jet planes etc have no emission standards but produce like 60% off all emissions

I and all mechanic buddies have been removing EGRs since they were invented and got paid to remove them. Now with the strict emission tests in certain areas you have to be able to reprogram your ECM to turn all the crap off, and back on before the next emission test. Allot of guys have 2 chips and just plug the stock one in before testing, and then swap back after the test. My 1999 7.4L/454 cubic inch Suburban 4x4 LT sold originally in CA. has 4 oxygen sensors, two in front of the cats, and two behind the cats, a huge air pump pumping fresh cold clean air into both sides of the exhaust manifolds, and an EGR valve from hell with huge pipes pumping hot exhaust into the intake manifold, and allot of other emission equipment garbage filling the engine compartment. With everything turned off except for the crank trigger, intake vacuum sensor, manifold air flow sensor, and distributor module the truck is brutal fast and smooth and runs cooler. My gas millage went way up, and I mean way up!! I am saving huge money on fuel costs. I turned off the two rear oxygen sensors also and just use the two front ones so the ECM can still adjust the fuel/air mixture correctly. I moved the truck to my ranch in Mexico and physically removed everything it didn't need to run including all the cats, and now I can finally see the beautiful engine. What a scam pumping fresh air into the exhaust manifolds. They say it's so the unburnt fuel will burn off before exiting the tail pipes, find this real hard to believe? I have a stock 1999 454/7.4 carbureted motorhome without any pollution stuff on it, and it came that way when new. I tested the emissions on it, and it has cleaner exhaust than my Suburban with all emission stuff turned on and running. It's funny, when I imported my Suburban to Mexico I found out it was imported to the USA when new/built in Mexico to California stiff emission regulations. I bought my motorhome in AZ. and drove it to my home in CA. and CA. would not issue me CA. plates or title. They told me I had to remove it from the State or spend thousands of dollars installing CA. approved pollution devices to bring the engine up to there emission standards. What's funny is the RV/motorhome was built in CA. originally but sold new in another state that didn't require pollution devices so none were installed on the RVs sold out of state. CA. now has surprise road side emission tests to catch the guys who have reprogramed there cars and trucks. And there always on a road where you can't turn around and run. Last one I saw had 9 tow trucks lined up and 6 cars waiting to be towed off. They had 2 guys handcuffed. In CA. you are not allowed to sell lawnmowers, weed eaters, etc. that don't conform to CA. emission standard, and now I hear they are outlawing 2 stroke jet skis, and 2 stroke out board motors for boats.

People arguing over the EGR is a funny one. Emissions or not , co2 or not , EGR WILL gunk up your engine from the inside. And just because carbon is stuck to the pistons, and not flown out the exhaust , it doesn't mean it wasnt created. Its there , but now costing you money. Look at all of the DI engines. I disconnected the vacuum line on my EGR valve and blanked off the pipe with a small bolt. The car ran smoother had more pull at lower revs and did better mpg. I got an engine management light on my 56 plate jaguar x type 2.0 diesel but that was it. I could live with that and did for 80000 miles.. I reconnected the vacuum line for the mot each year just to be sure it didn't fail on the emission test.

The egr isn't about a better running vehicle... before EGR in the 90s, you couldn't see the city of Los Angeles from the San Gabriel mountains due to it being covered in smog. It really made a great impact on our air quality. Now don't get me wrong, I'm far from liberal... but recycling all that we can is very necessary. So just do what I do, drive a 1972 k5 blazer

Rabbit EGR doesn’t work, most modern gasoline engines don’t have it anymore and run cleaner than those with EGR.

@@Rabbit.760 with the help of a well designed combustion chamber, VCT and better catalytic converters. My C5 Z06 has a big 5.7L V8 LS6 engine and it has no EGR. From 2002 and up GM deleted all EGRs because they were able to meet emissions without it. A good engine design is key.

Probably is not a very good idea to mess with the egr map, because the ecu is likely to flag fault codes. I usually just use the egr hysteresis map wish turns it off completely. Great video keep them coming.

I have an old Pajero. It allows me to do exactly that. All you need to make sure of is that the EGR is actually in a closed position.

Considering this, but I have a concern other than emissions. The EGR also serves as anti-shudder valve on VW 1.9 tdi engines. Does deleting it make the car susceptible to runaway engine problem?

EGR lowers combustion temps through heat absorption and lowering of oxygen content thus reduces NOx emissions. Actually, they aren’t really an issue but when mixed with PCV gases you get fouling. Fitting a oil separator (catch can) will solve these issues.

The Duratorq 2.2 used on the 2008 Freelander 2 has a crankcase ventilation oil separator. This is seldom mentioned, the consequence is that some owners might be tempted to install a catch can. At 120000km the egr on the LR2 2008 had no oily residue only moderate carbon deposits on the surfaces. The egr cooler however has failed (white smoke, no power) which needed replacing. I observed that the design of the new egr cooler differs from the factory fitted egr cooler, the single large air port with it's complement of smaller ports has been replaced with smaller ports ie. 24S+1L is now 32S+0L. This could have an impact on factory tuning due to restricted airflow and altered cooling efficacy.

I have a 2009 BMW 335d diesel and I was wondering if I can blank the EGR valve and not re-map the car at all and what would happen if I do not re-map it and remove the EGR valve and use a blanking kit in it's place ?

Can I ask on what basis you selected, on some areas, values of around 500 and other areas, values of 800. What happens if we select value of 800 all together. ​@@vPerformance Skoda Fabia MK1 with VW 1.2L 12V AZQ engine. Just today I have unplugged the connector (it's an electric valve). My check engine light didn't come on, but my scan tool shows the code. I will test my car for a week now. It used to gulp 8.5L here in the city, which was already too expensive. Last two tanks it gulped 9.5L and that's waaay too much. It has only 89 000 on the clock, and my grandpa was a very fine driver (first 75K). The engine is in mint condition, but something doesn't add up.

That’s not a faulty egr check if your catalytic converter is still on or if your a diesel than check your dpf and catalytic converter

@vPerformance i'm using a ecu editor called mazda edit. my egr map shows up as green andd red but the red may mean on or off. the red value is 5-10 and green is 0. red values are in the middle of the rpm range nd load

I've the 1.3 multijet engine, Egr kills these, so with this there is no need for blanking just purely a remap? and I'm presuming a lot of the carb in the manifold will get burnt out afterwards also?

The whole point of EGR is to reduce the combustion temperature by limiting the amount of oxygen entering the engine. This will reduce the amount of NOx,(Nitrogen Oxide) which will otherwise be produced at high combustion temperatures caused by a chemical reaction between the oxygen and nitrogen. The downside as mentioned is a slight reduction of power produced.

It's not just about the loss of power EGR causes it is also about the increase in fuel consumption , the extra contamination of the oil and the shorter engine life from the grinding effect of the carbon particles , on the cylinder walls.

Hey Lad, you didn't mention how do we get the check engine light to go off? If I just unhook and plug the vacum line to my EGR valve it won't open and let the crap pass through correct? But the engine light will come on to let it be known that the EGR / DPFE is not functioning properly. How do I get the check engine light to go off though? I have an apparently bad DPFE Sensor as it only registers .244 MV at idle and barely moves from there as the EGR valve comes on when I apply vacum to it manually.

You find someone who's working with mapping, tell them what you're doing and they will either decline or assist you (for an agreed upon fee).. Like anything on any market anywhere.

Great video. My EGR valve has gone in an 11 plate Audi A3 1.6 TDI. Any idea how much is a decent price to pay for a EGR remap? Plus if it is flash do you still have to blank off the inlets? Cheers

Del Rio possibility, I know I have a programmer in mine already and paid for a program. I later decided to remove my egr and I called my tuner guy and he re tuned it for free. So all I paid for was my egr delete kit for only $48.00(us) but if you don’t have a tuner already then yeah it won’t be cheap, my custom tune alone ran me $275.00 and my tuner was $600.00

Hello, Great videos, excellent info. Have a Isuzu dmax 2,5 2007 136hp with a delphi ecu and a bad EGR. Bought a KTAG to remove EGR via BDM. Do you recomend that i change the values in a way to keep EGR permanently closed, avoiding the error code?? Best Regards João

Brilliant video. one of the best ive seen. yet. i have a question regarding My 2003 PD MK4 GOLF. ive just remapped it from 130 bhp to 165 bhp. and added a new stainless exhaust, with the cat removed. ive had the turbo completely reconditioned. egr valve and manifold cleaned spotless. im having trouble with black smoke every time a push the Accelerator right to the floor. when im in 4. 5. and 6 gear. my mechanic took off the the inlet pipe going to the egr valve and noticed that it was constantly open and closing while the car was sitting idle without pressing on the accelerator peddle. could this egr valve be causing the black smoke problem im having, or could it be cause of the remap ive got done, has altered the way the egr valve is working. any feedback would be really appreciate it mate. thanks a million.

It'll be the remap. Diesels can be remapped by simply chucking in more fuel than the engine can possibly burn, which results in unburnt fuel as black smoke. Even standard cars smoke but after a remap it's always worse. Look up Rolling Coal on youtube.

I think the best way for an egr to be effective is 4 cylinder stroker not on towing or vehicles that need the power. This is good reason for newer vehicles they run on how they are set so adjustment on computer is nesscary on removal of egr

Great video lads. Tell me : will the slightly increased emissions have any affect on MOT-ability of the vehicle? Annoyingly fiddly to get at on my Z19DTH in a saab.

The wonderful thing about diesel on the UK is that the MOT is very lenient. As long as you're not blowing black smoke you'll pass the MOT. I'm pretty sure diesels have an Nox test, but no pass/fail criteria.

well, I know what you are saying is true, so why is it when I put an EGR Delete cable on my Diesel Triton and the overall performance was downgraded. Fuel usage was no better and it had run-on when the engine was turned off. When I took the cable off the performance returned instantly. So why is this happening on my vehicle?

Stupid question. I was telling my buddy that turning off the egr valve via ECU and then using a blanking plate is something I did. And he then told me I will have hest issue cause he said that the egt will increase. I told him I have no idea what hes saying. Because what I did was turn off the bad hot gases running in the engine. And only cold air is now going into it. So I have no clue how he arrived at his statement. Was he right or wrong?

I have a lexus Is and the engine management light come on it and went into limp mode, called out the rac they said the egr needs cleaning, I'd rather remove it completely if its safe to do so? How much does it cost to remove the egr ?

Real purpose of EGRs is higher engines clean efficiency, lower output of CO2 and NOx. Results in lower power, torque, fuel efficiency, throttle response, blocked air intake manifold over time and intake valve damage.

That's all neat and nice, but what if the EGR valve is faulty and I need to disable it completely? It was told somewhere that you need to adjust injection timing as well.

ignition should be played with becasue egr gases in theory make the mix burn differently so you can play with the ignition the mapping

I am affraid that my car will smoke and have bad exhaust smell if I remove the egr... also I heared that engine will wear because it won't warm up as fast as it does with egr on. Is it true that egr has a cooler so that egr gas is cooled before getting into the manifold? I have an e46 320d

All engines have wear when started cold, and yes the EGR helps with those first few minutes of warming up. The engine also gets wear from having crappy dirty soot passed into the engine though. Some cars have an EGR cooler so that it doesn't overheat the engine with dangerously hot exhaust gas. I'd rather have that hot gas exhausted, and not sent into my engine.

So to completely disable the EGR with software I would set all the values to the highest limit? Would it then throw a DTC code (error code)? Does VAGEDCSuite allow me to turn off DTC codes? If it doesn't what software does?

When you adjust EGR parameters do you have to be mindful of of fuel values or other parameters? When you turn off the egr you get less air into the engine.

What happens in most cars, is the air is replaced with fresh air instead. In short - engine wants 1000mg of air - it could take 500mg of EGR and 500mg of fresh. It still gets the air it measures, but you'll get more power from 1000mg of fresh unburnt air.

Is not severely increased engine live also a pro? With EGR, rock hard carbon from the intake manifold gets sucked into the cylinders and that is not good for engine life.

Why do you want more cold air to produce more power at a part throttle i.e a condition when you want less power? How can deleting EGR give more power if at max throttle when the EGR would be fully closed anyway? To increase mpg with egr delete you need to also adjust the wastegate as it is partaily closed to drive the EGR flow. This gives a back pressure penalty.

Anywhere fuel is being burnt, mixing with cold air produces a more complete burn and more torque.

@@vPerformance In a Diesel there is always extra oxygen availible at part load. That is the point of EGR too reduce the amount of oxygen to form NOx and lower combustion temps. If you want more torque you put more fuel in

EGR systems do work if they are designed properly, unfortunately most vehicle engine manufacturers only need to see their engines last till the warranty runs out. they work well with no issues on John Deere tractor engines because they have an expensive system to make sure it does work, 3000 hours and no soot on pistons or inside intake, the emissions have to be cleaned up as most people don't have a clue about what has been happening in the last 5 years to clean up emissions, they have to as the engines gasses in the air cause cancer and cause lots of serious problems to the young person.

actorzone everything causes cancer. And our ozone is no better or looking any better because of a egr... the egr isn't what has made emissions better in the past 5 yrs the better built n smarter build cars are what made emissions better in 5 yrs

hi there, i'm looking for some answer's to, Is blanking my EGR safe to do on my VW Golf 1.9 tdi BXE, it's a 09' plate. i did a poor man's version of this the other day (put a ball bearing in the actuator tube) which effectively stopped the EGR opening, I think? the car drove fine for 10 or so miles then i lost power driving through a village at 10-20 mph and thick black smoke came from the exhaust? I pulled over and removed the ball bearing.. the cars been running ok since.. The reason i did this was as described in the video, I don't wanty all that gunk in my engine and to also cause turbo failure later on in mileage, my car is on 90,000 miles now. Any advice would be great if you would.

My car is W208 CLK320 ( M112 V6 3.2 gasoline ) from 1998y with ODB1. I unplugged yellow plug controlling EGR but nothing happened. I have driven 40 km and no any differences. "Check Engine Light" doesn't light. Regular engine operation. Is the egr blinded, removed programmatically from the ECU? How recognize that ?

I have a turbo Diesel. A TDi to be exact. Would removing the Egr valve/blanking it off be okay? I've heard that if you remove the EGR valve it can be bad for the DPF? Or will the dpf be fine? Thanks.

+Boo Baa they're two distinct systems very far from each other. If you're interested in maximum power both are bad, but they do try to save the planet. If you remove or block either the car might throw an engine management light.

So im thinking of doing this to my 1series. Do i remove the egr then install the blanking plate in place of it OR leave the valve in and put the blanking plate between the exhaust pipe and the valve? I know this would trip the ecu either way, unless i install a blanking plate with small holes in it but then there is no point. Any ideas?

what about DPF ? is it a huge performance/efficiency breaker if we let it ? I'm saying that because it's illegal to delete a DPF and it can be spotted (black fums) but remap delete EGR actullay can't be detected easly.

The DPF burns off by firing extra diesel into it, so definitely bad for efficiency!

Is remapping also the fix for codes created after an EGR is removed? I had the EGR and EGR cooler removed from my wife's 06 Jetta TDI last year. The car now needs state inspection, and the same shop who installed the delete kit is now saying the car is throwing four codes associated with the EGR. I haven't talked to them directly, yet; I will in the morning, but the message via my wife is they're saying it needs someone to write code. I've worked on cars for 50 years, but not as a pro for 30 years. Even to me, 'writing code' seems a bit 'off'. Any clues to help me deal with these guys would be great.

The ECU requests and measures gas flowing through the EGR - if it's blocked when it requests, it throws an error. Here in the UK if it throws an engine management light that's a fail, but otherwise it's just an "advisory". EGR adjustment is just one of the things that can be changed by a remap.

Great video bud , just what I was looking for , I've been thinking about getting my EGR deleted so phoned a guy today to price it up , he told me the car would have to do the dpf as well because the cooler engine temperatures will be too cool to make the dpf regenerate , is this true I thought a better combustion would make the engine hotter

+Rása Péter I don't think so. Atleast my 1.9 PD130 (EDC15P) doesn't care. My mate has got the '09 A4 2.0 CR140, and he sometimes get the CEL.
