I’ve looked at several homes recently which did not have enough bedrooms to fit our family size, and have often wondered what it would take to add an egress window in the basement. Great how-to video on the in’s and out’s of adding. Thanks! For those commenting on “why would someone do this”, you can’t resell a home and include the basement square footage and/or bedroom without a 2nd exit from said room/area. An egress window allows you to count both, thus increasing your homes value. Very worth it if you’re taking the time and money to finish out a basement.
@mpoulin5 жыл бұрын
Would a hatchway count? I thought egress windows were bigger. Like a standard door sized opening and stairs in the well to easily get out. My hatchway is basically the same size as this opening. We built a room in our basement and the hatchway exit is in that space, which is why I'm asking.

Suggestion put the drain at dirt level. Use a good quality landscape fabric over the dirt and the drain. Then put your rock I use river rock. If the drain is higher then the dirt it fills up the space until it can exit through the drain. And I also wrap the drain and down the pipe a little. It keeps sediment out better.

So a quick tip for finishing up the concrete saw cut , buy a masonry diamond tip blade for your angle grinder since your at Lowe’s buying all this other stuff . Saves on drilling and chiseling the wall I’ve found not all concrete is made the same. And because the chisel worked at your place it might not at others , and an angle crack could go the other way removing more foundation then you want lol . With the angle grinder you get a 2” depth cut to create a really nice score line for breaking the wall

Very well done. It looks like the saw cutters cracked your foundation wall. What did you use to fill it in?
@dankwilde3 жыл бұрын
I don’t think that is a crack but an overdue from the blade. But I’m curious what he filled it with too. Just got mine cut today and need to fill those overcuts

@@Dfpijgyt564s65sgt It was such a nice piece. I was thinking outdoor in a garden or near a fire pit. A slab like that wouldn't be practical in the dining or living room. A piece like this one would be right at home in Fred Flintstone's home. Perhaps that is my attraction to the slab. Just don't wander thru a room and stub your toe on it in the dark.

Забавно, что фундамент совершенно без арматуры. У нас в России бетон бы был нашпигован тоннами металла.
@austiinnnnnnnnx5 жыл бұрын
does this not affect the structural integrity of the foundation? can this lead to sagging in the framework directly above where it was cut?

Did you use closed-cell foam? Anyways, I would buy two of those saw blades, weld it to my car at head height for the zombie apocalypse. Thank me later for wiping out all the zombies.

Now, removing a small span window, and cutting a larger piece of fundation out, and not adding any extra support for the house plate? I thoungt in this case instaling at least 2" 1/2 x 1/4" T angle lines would be a must. I'm missing something?

I personally use polyurethane gaskets to separated the wood from concrete just like a baseplate, wood will ALWAYS wick water from concrete and I personally have found over the years it’s a better system and lasts longer. You still did a top notch job tho 👍
