I've been to every EGX since my first one back in 2012 at Earls Court, but I think EGX 2023 might be last - the event just isn't what it used to be, and certainly isn't the event I fell in love with all those years ago. In this video, I take you on a tour around what's left of the show floor, with no Xbox, PlayStation, EA, Ubisoft or any other major publishers really outside of Nintendo and Sega. In fact, the biggest stand on the entire show floor was the one for event sponsor TikTok... I really want EGX to be good again, and I've given it the benefit of the doubt for the last several post-pandemic years, but for now I think, this one was the last straw...

Watching this ahead of going on Friday - I hope it's certainly more substanital than this, but I'm not holding my breath. I still remember going in 2013, it felt like having E3 drop in the middle of London, it was absolutely PACKED with new and upcoming games, nothing else has topped it since.

I was there on the Thursday this year and it was just sad. Very little to do, nothing exciting. Barren, empty, dead. Have been going since 2013 but no more, time to find a new event.

Never actually been to EGX so I didn't know what the event space was like...but it looks so empty. A far cry from the old days of Play Expo Manchester in the mid 2010s where you could hardly move!

I went to EGX at the NEC back in 2015, it was packed with things to do. Seeing this now is really depressing.

I really fondly remember Eurogamer Expo from attending in 2011 (although for some reason I never got round to going since). It's pretty heartbreaking to see it's no longer jam packed with tons of developer and publisher stands. You couldn't walk 5 steps without seeing something new and cool, whether it was some shockingly impressive giveaways or worldwide exclusive first looks and demos for some huge games. It really used to be special, you couldn't get close to doing everything in a full day back then let alone 15 minutes.

Great video again Kev. I have learnt my lesson the last few years and not gone like yourself I tend to get most of the new games so would be playing them anyway and the previews I would get on You Tube. The retro section playing the old arcade machines is good but being a collector of retro consoles it would only really be the arcade machines from my youth. The Indie section would be worth a visit as I think it s always good to support up and coming developers. Taking that all into account the size and the price they charge I can only see the attendance getting smaller and smaller with EGX falling off the radar

Twitch Con in Paris was incredible as was Paris Games Week. Insomnia in the UK is a great event but EGX is not worth going to really

I'd have to say the biggest in the UK now is Insomnia. EGX has not recovered at all. I even went to Paris Games Week for the first time and that was absolutely incredible even without speaking French there was so much going on.

I went on Saturday and it was much busier than this, obviously that meant more queues but there were loads of people walking around, enjoying the event, lots of youtubers/twitch streamers recording, lots of cosplay people. I guess you went on Thursday or Friday because there were more indy games near the entrance on Saturday. I did notice the map at the beginning showed the tentacle zone, but they weren't there when you went, or when I went, for some reason; I guess people are fed up of seeing TerraTech.

EGX and Insomnia look so empty now. I went to Playexpo in Blackpool last year and it was way more exciting than those.

I have been to 15 + EGX shows if you include rezzed & this year had no soul which is a shame as reedpop who own EGX should be embarrassed tbh I was given a super pass but only done 2 days next year maybe my last if they don't do better

Football manager were in GI Academy zone, but admittedly was disappointing overall. Retail Zone was not great, overpriced and not a lot to inspire. Rezzed/Leftfield were cool as always, as was Nintendo and Sega (2 like a dragon games) also Prince of Persia was there just not well advertised. Tik Tok was pointless. I was there for all days but we went to the pub multiple times and central London.

The more the video went on, the more embarrassed I got that you called it 'the biggest gaming event in the UK' at the start of the video. I went to a fairly middling comics and anime con in Bristol this year that looked more impressive than this.

Gaming itself is Dying, too many utterly broken Pre-Alpha Launches, too many FOMO Mechanics, too much focus on multiplayer, too many Live Services chore charts, too much emphasis on bleeding the Player Dry with MTX and DLC, too many Copy and Paste "expansion pack" Sequels, and too much bashing the Player over the head with politics of all kinds! many Gamers have given up on Gaming due to that, and thus, have given up on the Expo's as well, it isn't the Lurgi that killed Expo's, but lying publishers, incompetent developers, out of touch suits and greedy Wall Street investors killing Gaming in the first place that has killed Expo's!
