Great video as usual. BTW my late father Haydar Kuzbari was one of the Syrian Military officers who was involved with the military coup that split Syria and Egypt on Spt 28, 19661. During his military service he was issued a Browning HP similar to the one you are using and has the UAR Eagle marks. He kept and carried it after he retired until his passing in 1996. Unfortunately, my family doesn't have it anymore. That gun was the first gun I learned to shoot with. Good old memory.....Rest in peace Dad..

If my experience with the Hakim is anything and the fact that the Rasheed is essentially a baby Hakim, the failures could be because the feed ramp to the chamber is very steep and the gun tends to cycle quickly, hollow points and soft points tend to deform while loading and allow the lip of the case mouth to catch on things causing failures to feed. In rare cases it even tips the bullet in the case. The top of the FMJs don't deform and so keep the case away from surfaces it could catch on.

As an Egyptian, I am amazed you get that Camo. I never saw it on a non-Egyptian except for some Yemeni fighters. This pattern is still used by al-Sa'iqa (lit. Thunderbolt) forces. It's so special and spiritual that all army branches have changed their uniform many times over the years except al-sa'iqa. It also used to be reversible where one side was for the paratroopers and the other for al-Sa'iqa. Peace.

I always have had a soft spot for those transitional rifle designs, and that Browning really made me smile. When I started my LE career the dept I started with had very few restrictions on what we could carry. My first duty pistol was a Browning Hi-Power. I still have it and it still shoots so very, very well despite a LOT of rounds through it and many of those being 9BPLE rounds. Good shooting, Ian!
@ferdonandebull
@ferdonandebull Жыл бұрын
Yeah I started in 76 with a department that had very few restrictions. Loved the high power hated the 9mm. It was early on in bullet development for the American market. The fmj and what was laughingly referred to as hollow point just didn’t do it. I stuck with .357 and .44 special.. Ammo got better over the years.. 9 became a thing but high point ended up somehow out of the picture . Love the firearm but it was a case of great gun shitty bullet. Then adequate ammo then great guns for it. High point didn’t enjoy the law enforcement /civilian market that it should have enjoyed.. in America like it did in militaries and police departments in other countries..

I have a Helwan Brigadier that I got for $75 because it was having mechanical issues which I was actually able to rectify with one of those cheapo grey sharpening stones that were once ubiquitous in dollar stores. It has a ludicrously heavy trigger pull but I can still shoot it reasonably well because there's very little trigger movement. The bore, is mirror-bright and very easy to clean. It is strangely a good gun and a hunk of crap at the same time. I also have a Check VZ-52 that I finally got round to replacing the broken firing pin on after owning it for about 30 years. It was very much the opposite of pleasant to shoot, I fired five rounds through it and the side of my trigger finger was numb.

That is a blast from the past. I had a rasheed that I picked up out of shotgun news in the early 90s and it ran norinco or anything milsurp from a can reliably. Nice video IMO your problem with the rifle was the ammo A number of years ago I tested about every brand and type of 7.62x39 ammo I was looking for the best groups out of my SKS at 100 and 200 yards for a 3 gun club match Wolf ammo produced the worst groups and was DIRTY I would get wild fliers that opened up the 4"-5" 100 yard group to 8"+ Where my reloads or Norinco FMJ with the mild steel core was grouping 2" at 100 yards
@rvieira8057
@rvieira8057 Жыл бұрын
I heard Wolf (or someone on their behalf) also produces better grade ammo. Their steel cased 7.62x39 is cheap and dirty, as you said. Have you tried Prvi Partizan ammo? Their FMJ 7.62x39 is good and reliable afaik.
@johnharder5618

I remember Wolf Gold was good ammo Yes , I got 500 rounds of Prvi Partizan brass cased 7.62x39 FMJ ammo several years ago I shot it and had no problems and good groups I saved the cases and have been reloading it with a cast bullet from a LEE Mold

I'm just guessing here, but QC and manufacturing tolerance might have been slightly relaxed compared to the original Ag m/42 Ljungman made in Sweden. Also, swedish steel did have quite the quality advantage back in the 70s and arguably still does today!
@concinnus
@concinnus Жыл бұрын
Sweden is one of the few countries making top-tier steel even today, but it probably doesn't matter because Egypt would have imported European/Soviet steel. Bad tolerance stacking is a possible contributor, but definitely not the main issue. Ian said the rifle worked fine in testing, so it's an ammo issue. As he said, he's shooting JHP, which military rifles are not designed for, and it's Wolf, which is cheap steel-cased Russian ammo (tho maybe the gun is designed for it).
@GeFeldz
@GeFeldz Жыл бұрын
Very insightful, and you're probably on to something. The original AG/M42-Ljungman was certainly designed for regulation swedish military highish quality brass-case only 6.5x55 FMJ and the quality and consistency of that ammo was very well understood by the designer of the Ljungman, i've heard they're a bit finicky when it comes to ammo. I'm translating that as they like hot ammo, because Swedish 6.5x55 used by the military was on the hot side, the "6.5x55 Swedish" factory loads in the US are designed to NOT blow up the norwegian Krag Joergensen rifles that have the exact same chambering but DON'T take the same pressures reliably. We hunt moose with 6.5x55 with heavy and high bc bullets AND with high pressures to this day in Sweden. I shot a 700ish pound bull moose with my 6.5x55, he jumped in the air and took about two steps before he fell down. @@concinnus
