That is a good design for the filter and a nice explanation of how it works - I have a guy sending me one to take a look at and add to the 'pimp my filter' series I'm doing presently so I've been searching for videos which have good information before agreeing to take it. Seems way better than the 'pick-up' filters from Eheim. Groovy.

Pondguru yeah it’s a solid design I think 🤔 gives you plenty of options for what media you can use. Although if running fine media it will have to be bagged or maybe some sort of mesh used to keep it from falling out.
@pondguru6 жыл бұрын
Yes using small media in a restricted space is always a worry when taking the compartments apart as it can sometimes result in an explosion of media followed by lots of cursing, lol

Pondguru that’s if your lucky enough to have anything left in there at all 😂 Rowaphose springs to mind.

Yup, the smaller the media the greater need to keep it contained securely.

Any idea when the pimp my filter for this will be out ? :)

Thanks for the reply Darren. I did watch your video on the JBL (x3 times) before posting my earlier comment and have just watched it again in the hope of convincing myself to get it. It hasn't worked though as I'm toying with the idea of going with the Eheim BioPower and mixing the filter baskets with the ones from the Aquaball. The chaps at my LFS suggested Oase. As you say it looks quite easy to clean and I also like the integrated heater. I might go for it and change one of the sponges for a bag of Purigen and see if I can fit in some bio media somewhere, but then again...

Richard Mace I think you would be able to do that no problem, maybe bag up the Purigen as its so fine. Best of luck with what ever you go with 👍

Hello. How do you handle disturbing vibrations in glass?

Great review. So glad I found your channel. I run a juwel tank as a reef setup, everything is fine apart from I hate the juwel filter. I’ve been trying to think of a way of filtering the tank if I remove the juwel filter. I was looking at an external filter but on a reef tank they need cleaning like once a week, I’m a bit like you on that and I hate the thought of opening them up once a week to maintain. So I’ve been looking at internal filters and I can’t find anything suitable. All I want the filter for is to trap waste, run carbon, phosphate media and maybe some kind of media to reduce nitrates. As you said about the eheim I think it might work. It’s round like an external filter and there’s space to put media and it’s quick and easy to Maintain, I hope. I had a tunze internal filter and I thought it would work really well but as soon as the floss started to get blocked even after a day or two. It would start sucking in air and filling the tank with bubbles. Also if you look at the design of the tunze filter it has no way of channelling water through the floss or media because there’s just a pump sitting at the bottom. When I pulled the floss out to change it, it would be dirty at the front part and the rest of the floss was clean so all the filter was doing was sucking water straight down the front and bypassing all the floss and media. The only problem I had is I’ve only ever used rowaphos which as you know is messy but I’ve never found anything that works as well as rowaphos. I also use Red Sea carbon which again is messy, I don’t mind changing the carbon I use I’m just not sure about changing to a different phosphate media. And then there’s reducing nitrates, I don’t know if anything would work in the eheim filter. Any way let me know if you have any tips on what I could use in the eheim. Love your reef tank by the way. And cheers again for a very informative video.

Hi Andy I’m glad you have found some use out of my videos. I was actually going to suggest a Tunze filter to you as they do matching Skimmers the 9004 and 9002 I think 🤔 the Carbon you use will fall out of the Eheim as would the Rowa Phos although you could bag them up and put them in that way. The jewel filter is a little messy so I know why your not impressed but it does hide the heater which is never a bad thing. I would not personally do an external filter myself unless you only have a fish 🐟 only system. Nitrates up to a point arnt always bad as long as they are in moderation. Soft corals actually need them I believe. There’s loads of phosphate removers out there, aluminium ones are normally white beads and cleaner to use. Also take a look at the Seachem hang on the back filter they do, I’m not sure how it would work on a juwel due to the lid and rim but would give you space to put what ever you want. You could get two one for chemical removal and one for biological media turned right down to try and help the anaerobic cycle.

Darren's Marine World thanks for the reply. I’m using a tunze 9004 skimmer, it works really well. I have mainly soft corals and there all doing fine. I would like to remove the juwel filter but as you say it does hide the heater and it’s quick an easy to maintain. I’ve ordered an eheim biopower filter after watching your video. I’m going to put it in the tank and see how it performs.

Hi Darren thanks for the pukka videos. Can you recommend an internal filter that ticks both boxes i.e. Biological AND mechanical. I was about to buy an Eheim BioPower 200 but then saw this video and changed my mind to the JBL CristalProfi i100 and then changed my mind again. I've only got a small 55ltr tank 40x40x40cm. Thanks man.

Richard Mace lol I know your pain, I have had the JBL myself, I liked the fact it stayed in the corner so was discrete but was a bit of a pig to clean. If I'm honest though with that being said I think the Eheim and the JBL are both up there in my opinion. There is a company called Oase that basically have ripped off the JBL but it allows you to put your heater in it so keeps your tank looking neat, it looks easier to clean as well. Also the Tunze Comline is pretty cool, it's just a box that you fill up with what you want, so you just bag everything and top it off with filter floss. Seachem have just brought out a Hob filter which again lets you do your own thing. I don't like filters that don't have much flexibility, hob filters are rare in the UK but the Seachem one looks pretty solid.

Richard Mace I forgot to mention I have a video on the JBL so it might help you with your decision.

What about motor cleaning, how easy and what is the impeller spindle made of ceramic or steel? Thanks
@darrensaquaticsworld7 жыл бұрын
sezles1 you only have access to the impeller from what I can remember and I believe the spindle is ceramic. I think nearly all spindles are ceramic now, I’ve never had one that wasn’t.

hiya I'm looking for dimensions for this filter and can't find any even on the eheim website. Is there any on the box?
@danielmerrell89268 жыл бұрын
on the whole eheims are better for biological and if you are looking for mechanical filtration your better with a fluval
