That elusive Animals tone...I don't have a Tele, but you proved it can be gotten with a Strat...90% :)

Thanks for the review Francesco. So do you think the Green Russian is a better fit for Gilmour’s muff tones compared to Ram’s head?

Great video, gotta love the muff 😉 got one too as soon as I could order one and love it for that fuzz sound... 🤘👍

Hey great tone, playing and info as always. One of my favorite songs and solos is Time from DSOT. If you could do this and help dial in tone it would be much appreciated. Till then keep sharing your knowledge of and talent like the greatest of all time...Dave Gilmour!

I'm confused what are you stacking the Russian Muff with? A blues driver and that small green pedal?
@madhatter85084 жыл бұрын
The triangle muff is the exact sound needed to match the original, but tbh I prefer the comfy warmth of the green Russian over even the original triangle muff.

do you think the big muff op amp could handle Gilmour style playing?
@emerson19783652 жыл бұрын
Buona Giornatta, dear Francesco. in fact, I am very undecided about buying this version or the Rams Head. Both are beautiful. This green russian sounds so good, but I am looking for the Wall and animals era tones. What do you recommend me? Did you tested both on some ocassion? Please keep in mind that I am from Argentina and the prices here are ridiculosly high by now, so every investment needs to be very planned before putting any penny to the cash register :). The Rams head sounds more mid scooped doesnt it? I think the russian have that mid boost so seductive and so Gilmouresque...
@gilmourtheory2 жыл бұрын
The ram’s head is more suitable for the tones you need. Even if this one does the job as well!

Nice demo! Been looking for the right distortion fuzz pedal for classic Gilmour tones and this one nails it. Did you use it with a boost/OD pedal like a tube screamer and if so, what signal chain did you use for that?

Hi Francesco, have you try the regular little Big Muff pi, there is a big difference to this pedal for playing pinkfloyd?

do you have like me a background noise in the amp when you use the green russian with a compressor or when you increase the gain and sustain of the pedal ??? thank you
@josephmarkey90964 жыл бұрын
An inherent problem with Big Muffs, Tube Drivers or Compressors. I have seen Gilmour live and his rig is noisy too! However, he does use noise gates to clean up his sound. He also has very high end power supplies, leads, screening on his guitars. Embrace that hum, its the guitars blood!!!

Sei un grande, volevo chiederti una cosa.... Ma I muff non ti fanno un rumore infernale? Cioè nel momento in cui non suoni butti giù il volume? Io ottengo suoni interessanti ma ho il problema del rumore!
@MrBlackMorgoth5 жыл бұрын
Non alludevo a rumori nel video! Ti chiedevo in base alla tua esperienza e sperimentazione con la catena Comp od muff! A me crea molto rumore! Dovrò indagare su eventuali loop di massa forse!

I bought this pedal a couple of months ago, I absolutely love it. I had an original Russian from the early 70s that I sold almost 25 years ago, and this is very close to the same. I agree 100% that this is the best Big Muff this century, for sure! Thanks for sharing. Where is that new fuzz pedal you have? The Akai, ,is it gone?

Do you prefer it to the big box NYC Muff? It seems better for Gilmour but not so good for "classic Muff" tone (Billy Corgan, Santana, Dinosaur Jnr). I think I'll try this and the new Opamp reissue. That should cover a lot of ground. The Green has so much mid-range, maybe too much!
@albertomontes36636 жыл бұрын
Big muff Violet Ram's Head IS The best for gilmour tones, The NYC works really good for smashing pumpkins tone. I have both of them, The Violet Ram's Head works for everything. The opAmp muff gives you The tones for siamesse dream era. For smashing pumpkins i recomend you The NYC.
@danielecataldi44296 жыл бұрын
apart from the big muff, what other pedal effects are you using to get that sound?
@allanrobichaud19725 жыл бұрын
Did you skip through the video? He does list the effects used before each song he plays. Muff for the fuzz, delay pedal for ....delay, Electric mistress for that echoing space sound, Chorus pedal and an overdrive.

Why is it that anytime I look up anything big muff, a fifth of the videos are people trying to copy David Gilmour, with his name in the title? I’m not trying to diss your playing or even complain. You’re playing is good. It’s just dang, everyone wants to be David... haha
@Aaron-zh4kj6 жыл бұрын
Francesco Carpentieri no man, I agree, he’s a monster. He’s just got a big following in the youtube. That sounded dooshy... I apologize. Shine on, you crazy diamond...

Btw, I’ve got a Russian muff reissue, and I love. I drive it with a tube screamer clone, and it sounds dope. I’m a big Pumpkins fan, and that cranked sustain sounds amazing, but it’s got more low end on the Russian. I actually came to your video to see how to get that Wall-era gilmour solo sound, btw.
@gilbertotoledo14215 жыл бұрын
I think it's just that David Gilmour is one of the guitarists most associated with the Big Muff pedal, without it sounding like just a wall of sound as a lot of players tend to use it. So in effect David Gilmour is kind of like a reference point of some of the things that you can do with it.
