Wow Bro, you’re guitar playing is incredible. First person I ever heard that could have fooled me to think it was Gilmour playing.

Outstanding playing. And tones. My Gilmourish muff tone attempt uses a rat into a mini Nobels Odr. Then into a Camoflange and then a Maxon phasetone, dd200 and finally a hint of Mr Black double chorus, or more for ott Wall live modulation. Nice n swirly. 🎉

I’ve got a Nobels ODR on the way! Are you still using a Nobels? I’m going to try the rams reissue with it.

I find the Big muff Ram's head quite harsh and aggressive. Thought of sharing this with all.. The EHX HOT WAX can be an excellent replacement or Big muff but with both Hot tubes + crayon ON at the sametime. One can get the 911 tube driver tones with the right settings shown by Kit Rae. I got hugely benefitted replicating the exact tones of live in Gdansk & remember that night album.. it's mind-blowing

Gilmour changed things slightly over the years, but the boards were still built to perform the same functions. I just think he likes switching it up. I have a Dawner Prince Pulse. It’s a great pedal, that really has a unique type of rotary/Leslie effect. It just doesn’t work very well at low volume. But, when I’m playing in a full band at practice or a gig, it feels like it’s surrounding the stage. When I’ve had the chance to do a proper stereo setup with it, it’s as good a sound as actual Leslie cabs I’ve played. I like how your showing that getting these tones are possible without really expensive setups, or the exact pedals he used.

I haven't tried Dawner Prince Pulse yet, but I hear it's quite authentic, looks better than RT-20 in some cases.

In my opinion the big muff comes out at its best when boosted by a transparent overdrive. The equalizer helps, yes, but with the overdrive the sound is more punchy and you can "feel" the guitar strings while you are playing. Personally I prefer the overdrive placed before the big muff because the sound is more real and it's not muddy like when you put the overdrive after the big muff.
@mustyguitar Жыл бұрын
This is why I love music and guitar, it's endless possibilities to shape the tone to whatever your ear wants. With that being said, it's not muddy to "my ears" when I add OD after the big muff, in fact it's smooth. You can always lower the bass and mids a little from the OD (if you can), if you're looking for brighter tone.

I have a JHS AT pedal and if I put it after the big muff, it gets quiet and muddy. Is the AT the same as angry Charlie??

Try a powerboost after a ram's head, setted to start of breakup, and surprisingly you have a great solo sound that that doesn't change the timbre of big muff and cut the mix very well
@KYCDK Жыл бұрын
pulse tones he used the Sov big muff, which doesn't need a boost, maybe a bit of eq, but the russian is best left alone. it's the rams head that is best for boosting as it's much harsher while the russian is a little more smoother, which is probably why he switched. he probably used the eq you help tame it further.

Great vid! Could you maybe also do a vid explaining or giving examples of what happens to the sound when we play with each of these settings? It’s still hard for me to understand like “ok if I boost the mids then I’ll get closer to the sound I want”. I still think I’m blindly adjusting things and getting closer to what I want by luck. It would be great to have a proper tutorial video aimed to Gilmour fans. Thanks and happy new year!!

I understand what you mean, I will make a huge series (playlist actually) about getting specific tones, signal chain and settings, pedals, step by step. Kinda like vlog but short one... I think that will be a good series to learn a lot about getting the right tone with right settings. With that being said, it's going to take a long time to start, cause I'm working on a lot of stuff, making a website, making quality content for you good people and Patreon is another of my work. But, stay tuned, I have a lot of series and tutorials and tone guides. Thank you for your feedback.

Yeah one of my favorite muff is the Green Russian too. I really like EQD Hizumitas lately too. Now I see how you smooth out the frequencies to get that singing tone with od or EQ booster after the muff. Fortunately I got a Gilmour EMG set to throw into a parts strat if I can find time. Your vibrato and string bending are outstanding. "i can hear my neighbor piss."....lololol Yeah...same.

Awesome tone and playing! What amp did you use for this demo?
@KYCDK Жыл бұрын
gilmour usually had his coloursound powerbooster with the bass at 12:00 and the treble at 3:00 when boosting the big muff, while when he was using the drive for solos he would have the treble at 9:00 with the bass at 12:00. the coloursound powerboost was fairly mid cut and transparent, you should have the mids down on the JHS overdrive and have the treble boosted, keep the bass at noon and I's also point out that gilmour usually had the sustain on a big muff at noon or less, he used boosting to add more gain and volume

This is great! It's such a fine art getting his tone. I have drive pedals and eq and flangers, phasers, muffs. Still learning!!
@mustyguitar Жыл бұрын
I don't have a good resource to say that colorsound powerboost was AFTER the big muff, I think it was BEFORE the big muff on 1977 tour and was used for Pigs rhythm and solo quite a lot. That is, powerboost for easy rhythm, adding muff after the powerboost (you can really hear it's after from the bootlegs, considering it gets fizzier and sharp) for hard rhythm and solo. I'm %99 sure about this, I'll be doing more research for the website i'm working on of course.
@KYCDK Жыл бұрын
@@mustyguitar Im not sure he even had the coloursound powerboost in in the 1977 live shows. i'm fairly certain it was only recording for the wall and the subsequent tours he boosted the big muff which kinda smoothed it out. but yeah, i can understand it for 1977 but the wall tones are too smooth, even the live ones. plus animals used the cornish fuzz pedal a lot which was a modified big muff the smoothness btw doesn't necceserily mean more mids, it's moreso the gain it'self is smoother. the powerboost I'm fairly certain is still being used as a treble booster, but the powerbooster also just naturally makes the gain a little less harsh and wild

@arbous656 ай бұрын
I sold my fender strat with DG noiseless pickups. I resorted to only keep the 69 & CSS real single coil pickups (his later days or earlier days). I don’t know if he keeps using the DG pickup in live for MLR or DB album songs or he manages just fine to get the same tone with real single coil pickups? Your tone is very close to DG’s tone and I don’t know how much it’s gonna change using the same pedal / amp setup using his black strat kind of guitar. Do you have a guitar / pickup similar to the black strat? If you do, it would be awesome if you can create a KZbin video to compare the tone. 🙏🏽🙏🏽

At the start you had the EQ pedal off, but isn't the bass/treble boost and mids boost on your EMGs not acting like an EQ pedal?
@mustyguitar9 ай бұрын
EMG's have SPC and EXG as you know, EXG is always off on my guitar. so no EQ there, SPC however, I mostly use it but that's the nature of the pickup, my goal was to show Gilmour's EMG, SPC boosted tone WITH Boss GE-7. Nonetheless, I'll update this video, it's not as informative as it could be, I'll go over everything needs to be known with better sound clips and alternatives. edit: there is an EMG vs vintage single coil comparison video coming very soon.
