There are at least a few pieces that have washed up on shores confirmed to have been from the plane, and numerous unconfirmed but suspected pieces. The immersat ping data only makes sense if it crashed over the Southern Indian Ocean, considering there'd have been evidence if it went north into Asia (showing up on radars, etc.).

forensic science degree student here! handwriting analysis is actually incredibly specific and useful in pathology. it goes from being as broad as analyzing things like the way they cross their t’s or which way their letters slant, which is often not just indicative of their style but also where they come from (european writing is very distinctly different from american, or male vs female writing), and well trained analysts can often determine how quickly or carefully the writing was done, which often shows whether its faked or genuine. if they have a great deal of doubt in the analysis they’ll usually indicate as such in the report ... handwriting analysts have to go through years of training and read so much to learn to analyze.

Thank you for saying this! I was about to comment cause I have a background in forensics and actually specialised in handwriting analysis. The only thing I would add is that there is a distinction between handwriting analysis and graphology. The to terms are used interchangeably in the general public but mean completely different things. Graphology has to do with inferring personality traits based on different features which occurred in the handwriting whereas Handwriting analysis looks at the formation of the letters, fluency, distinctive features etc of the handwriting alone. Graphology is not generally accepted as a science or as evidence in a court of law (usually), whereas evidence given by handwriting experts has been accepted for many years in a court of law (its not like it's a recent development, but it is still subjective). It's very rare that you have two trained handwriting experts disagree strongly with each other on whether a known person was responsible for writing a document.
