Eight Hours Old Baby Elephant Seen On Safari!

This baby elephant is only a few hours old. It was born last night in Welgevonden Game Reserve, South Africa. The newborn struggles to stand and walk. This is a rare sighting that even safari guides get excited about. Why is it rare? One-day-old elephant calves are not commonly encountered on safaris due to the challenges of timing and location.
Luck was on my side on a safari in Welgevonden. It was very early in the morning when we encountered a herd of elephants. They were very anxious and protective. It took me a while to see why. But then I saw this cute baby elephant trying to stand and drink milk from its mother. We stayed a while and watched it from a distance. I will never forget this.
