Khanyisa is a real part of that herd. When she found herself without any of her elephant family there (human family was close by filming) she let out a distress call that every herd knows: baby in trouble! (Baby elephants are much like baby humans: if they find themselves suddenly alone it can cause anxiety. That is one of the reasons Khanyisa has Lammie, Nunga, and a human carer at night. She would get very upset if she found herself alone!) And this herd came running! All the cows and juveniles were especially attentive. If any of the cows had let out a distress call then the bulls would have joined in. A few came after the fact to led some support, but several (including Mambo) just went about their business. And that's because a wild herd is comprised of cows, their offspring, and subadults. Females stay with the herd for life; males will disperse when they reach sexual maturity. So, it really isn't Mambo's fault, as it isn't really his job to play nanny. Younger females without offspring frequently play that role, rehearsing for the time they will have their own babies. I'm fascinated and impressed by the cohesion in this group. Many are unrelated yet form a bond just as strong as any herd of elephants. Bless everyone involved for their undying devotion and love, for without them this herd would not be.

Katherine, thank you, wonderful comment. Yes, elephants are amazing and hugely (pun intended) caring animal. Makes my heart melt. But the sound of Khanyisa screaming in fear was bone chilling and very loud. Other than finding herself alone I wonder what else might cause her to scream like that. How is the herd protected from dangerous wildlife? What amazing footage.

Mambo is the herd's "Bad Boy". He is always getting onto trouble. I remember reading that the last time he ran after the wild elephants and was lost for three days when he returned, his mother slapped him with her trunk. It is a shame that was not caught on video. As far as this situation, I wonder if Khanysia got scared because she remembers how she was left behind by her first herd. Poor baby, she panicked for a moment. Glad to see the herd taking up the call and surrounding her with their love and protection. 🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘🐘

How is it that humanity has nearly wiped these beautiful, empathetic and magnificent creatures off the face of the earth?
@CristinaF2106 ай бұрын
THAT is my question exactly, but i tell you why, because we are ABSOLUTELY disgusting, there is NO BOUNDS no line no frontier no nothing to the capacity of human evilness. Instead of learning with these absolutely magnificent beings use our hands and brain to SAVE them and all animals we do exactly the contrary. have NO IDEA who had the idea of of putting humans on this paradise or if its just a really bad joke.
@sallyrickerson91395 ай бұрын
I ask this horrific sad disgusting question every day. I try very very hard not shut shut my Soul out to humans because I know there are beautiful ones that do walk the Earth. But sadly, I fell there is more evil people than good people on Earth. Even the Bible says the gate is narrow and the road is wide. I also carry extreme righteous anger to cruelty, abuse and killing of the Animal Kingdom.

I heard that baby elephants alwaya have to have someone around them especially the orphans because they don't like top be alone. Poor thing got scared when her big brother left her. He's still young but independent stop he didn't think anything of it. I notice the other bulls stay around her to protect her like Jabulani did. I love how they all came running to her even though they weren't far away they still wanted to reassure her that she was safe. 🐘❤

Baby elephants need to be protected by larger elephants at all times- this is the wild. Predators like lions, hyenas and hippos will surround, attack (kill and eat!) baby elephants left to themselves. There are lions and hippos on this wildlife preserve, not sure about hyenas. The carers are not safe either unless the eles are around to protect them.

@@hb4196 it's not just in the wild they do not like to be alone another orphanage stated that someone has to sleep with the baby elephants because if they wake up and no one is there they will scream in fear. She hasn't experienced any predators but as you can see she still is afraid to be alone. It's just something instinct to them as well as needing constant trunk touches.

Their love for her is matchless. It was incredible how quickly they came to her aid and all the while big brother Mambo was on his little hill, doing his Mambo thing. I bet Lundi had some words for him later about neglecting his babysitting duty.

There's a little bit of the boy who cries and wolf but the little girl was alone and scared, the rapid response showed not only the very touching concern of the older elephants but that despite Kahnyisas fears she really wasn't alone, the others just a few yards away just out of sight. Very protective and vigilant they dashed to her side in mere moments
@hb41963 жыл бұрын
This is not a "cried wolf" moment. It is deep instinct for survival. Small animals including baby elephants are very vulnerable to predators like lions, and the babies are usually not left alone, always protected by and with their mother. In this case, adopted mother/allomothers/herd. This is a wildlife preserve- there are lions and other animals who would pose a threat to a small elephant all alone. And the carers too; this herd protects the carers too.

What A Terrific Thursday Trunk Alarm! Have no fear, the calvary is near. The lil pink trunk sounded and the protectors came a running. This lil 🐘 is loved so much and is very well protected by her HERD Family who is always very close by. We have elephants, lions, leopards, and other amazing animals who will place their life at risk and even die to protect their young and vulnerable family member, yet, humans allow their babies and children to be freely handed into predators hands when they should be exemplifying the same type of intelligent behavior as these elephants when it comes to protecting and serving family. Who would have thought that humans can learn valuable lessons from the 🐘 family dynamics? These HERD Videos are so awesome and amazing as is the HERD Elephant Orphanage SA Family. Wishing HERD Family A Terrific Thursday!

Mambo, mambo, typical teen. Forgot about his sister. He disappeared when the others ran loudly trumpeting to Khanyisa. Probably knew he was in trouble. He forgot he was on baby sitter duty. Probably said oh no, I’m outta here. Never saw that expression on Khanyisa face before but she knew just what to do. Flare those ears and yell. Good girl. Wonderful family. Great filming

Well, such miraculous bonds, and humans are so fortunate to see ELEPHANT MATRIARCHY in action. MAMBO Career Path: Babysitter? 1. No interest 3. Some interest 5. Very interested 0. Hopeless. Just a note: PRINCESS wa being observed all along. From the moment She acknowledges Her 'solitude' to LIMPOPO AND LUNDI by Her side, I've got 02:38 secs. The Ladies enter stage left pronto. Of course this could be 'The Perils of Princess K.', so it could be theater. But realistically, there's nothing as emotional as The GALS protecting kinder. Then ZINDOGA sparring with SETOMBE, an old lady, while BUBI (?) looks at the camera as if to say "See this HERD I live with? Help me!"

The baby elephant acted like a human baby. When the elephant realized it was alone, it put its hand in the mouth for comfort, like a human baby putting a thumb in the mouth. What surprised me was the young adult male folding his body to climb a hill. How resourceful. Love the video demonstrating the strong bonds of elephants. I wish more of us would love them enough to save them.

I am sure Mambo would protect his family if it came down to it however he still maturing❤❤.. On another note, I often wonder if Jubalani, Mambo and Zandoga will ever leave Herd to go make babies?
