The "Turtle" shield spaniard tecnique was mostly invented by two rival teams. Story says, one of them had a really fast chain and the other had a very good shield technique but was unable to jump very high. The "turtle" technique is also done because a really slight brush from the ball counts as valid impact in Spain. Same for if the chain manages to "roll up" around you or a extremity. Keep up the good tutorials! Jack, a fan from spain.

In my amateur team we are using lines instead of chains, because they got broken too quickly and we needed to find a repleacement on budget. Turned out it works "smoother" and you can use a bit different technique with it and it never have broken since we changed it

Was it a Nylon chain? While plastic indeed breaks quite easily, Nylon seems to be very tough. But you are right, line chains have become more and more popular: it is quite a recent development. Recommended to try those indeed.
