Charly García, you don't need anything else to stay alive. I'm a huge fan, he's been touching people hearts for almost 50 years, from 1972 and he's still thriving, his last album was released in 2017 when everyone thought his career had ended. I've seen him twice last year and it was one of the best things I've ever done. Even though he had (and still does) struggled with his condition his mind and spirit are still the same. He's an amazing human and the last big musician here. (I've got two pillows with his face on them) Please make yourself a favor and listen to all of his albums. You should also read more about his life, he has been part of our history, he fought with music against the military forces that commanded in the last military coup, from 1976 to 1983 , some of his songs were censored. Have a great day and thanks 💕

"Shining like a black slave 's face laughing with joy": it is not a way of romanticizing slavery; Charly wrote about how joy and happiness, when living through hell (slavery is just a metaphore, you can also use famine or poverty), can make anyone shine. When seeing it that way, your conception of the lyrics can change totally. Charly García is all about LOVE & ROCK AND ROLL. Greetings from Argentina!

¡Saludos!

@culturacadenet4 жыл бұрын
"Esclava negra" es "esclava negra", "black slave". Pero debes descifrar de qué habla. Luego...
@pedrodiezcansecomunoz96764 жыл бұрын

Hey Frank. Yes, the translation was correct - "esclava negra" does in fact mean "black slave". I'm still not entirely sure of the meaning behind that, but keep in mind that Charly used a lot of poetry in his lyrics so you can't always take his words at face value. This is the studio version and the band lip-synced it for this filming. Serú and a bunch of other Argentine bands were filmed on this green screen in 1978 and the footage only just came out in 2017. This song is considered one of the most important in Argentine history.

Listen boy, I am very happy that Charly Garcia is your idol as it is for millions of Argentines who from the 70s until today we enjoy it with their songs worthy of a musician who studied from four years of age getting to be a teacher Piano at age nine. He is not a musician anymore, in his music he is perfect and when he gets angry and pushes the pianos it is not because he wants to attract attention, it is because his prodigious ears detected something ugly, maybe from him or maybe from one of his musicians . Total genius, having been born three hundred years or so could have been Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, List, Chopin, and if there is reincarnation the spirit of any of them today lives in it. Written with the google translator. Beautiful reaction... and for sure beautiful choice. I'm a huge fan of Charly García. He started his music career in 1972 in a band called "Sui Generis" an then in another band called Porsuigieco. Both bands played "country rock". In 1977 Charly invented a band called "La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros" (The Bird Making Machine) and then in 1978 he formed the group "Serú Girán (both were progressive rock bands). Serú Girán was named the Argentine Beatles. Charly García is a musical genius, he has ABSOLUTE HEARING. He composed his first symphony at 6 years old and graduated as a symphony conductor at 12 years old. In the first Serú Girán LP, Charly invented a strange languaje for some of the songs: Serú Girán, Eiti Leda, Seminaré, Separata, Cosmigonón... these words have NO MEANING!!!! Charly wrote lyrics quite meaninfull and metaphorical but some others are quite like crosswords. Some are about fredoom others about love and unacceptance. Others about social situations and others about his megalomaniac existence. Others about improvement as a human. And many other more thematics. Charly is a profesional. For instance he has cancel concerts because he didn't like the general sound! He has fully paired ears. Ir meando absolute ears. Music flores from his mine. He said once he has musical dreams!

Hi Frank ... Charly works a lot with the images in his lyrics. He is a big fan of art movies. What i understood from your reaction in front of the phrase ¨shining like a black slave¨, perhaps sounded to you like a ¿racist phrase from Carly?. In that case, It is not at all a racist comment when he says, shining like a black slave ... I personally remember American TV series about African-American slaves and their radiant teeth, smiling despite their sad condition. That evokes for me that image of a black slave smiling with dignity even enthusiasm.That is the feeling that Argentines give us this phrase ... this music is of my adolescence and it is very touching for me, music and lyrics. ..thanks for giving Charly her rightful place in your program.

thanks frank for this reaction! there is another great musician on the band, Pedro Aznar, the Bass player..., listen to his work , you you wont regret...(sorry for my English) greteens from El Bolson, Argentina my brother!!

Gracias! Abrazo desde Buenos Aires!

Charly truly is a master musician both in the classical sense (tasty melodies, interesting hamornies, complex rythms, beautyful textures, etc.) as well as a very rich artist in his aesthetic of musical and poetic discourse with strong political and spiritual messages, definately worth exploring once you get to know him. Check out the Piano Bar sessions, to me that's the peak of an incredible and unique journey

A black slave (black slave) is a jewel like a bracelet. He said that he wrote this song inspired on a moment when he was on the hospital a very delicate state. So, half conscent, half alusinating, he saw the black slave on the wrist of a nurse and it was shining on his eyes

Yes! Finally! I loved your reaction! I'm a hard die fan of 70s progressive rock. Yes, Pink Floyd, Camel, King Crimson, Premiata Forneria Marconi, and many more. I would suggest more Seru Giran, and Charly's previous projects like La Máquina de Hacer Pájaros (for example the song Hipercandombe), and 70s pure progressive bands like Crucis, specifically the song Delirios del Mariscal. You will be blown away!

The song was written a few years earlier when Charly was still in Sui Generis, his first band, along with his friend Nito Mestre (another interesting singer songwriter of local scene). The original name was "Nena" (babe, girl) and apparently Eiti Leda is an analog expression, such as "sweet child", but phonetically transcribed from some pre-Columbian native language. In the lyrics the woman seems to be described as a girl, a daughter but who at the same time is taken to take care of the protagonist, a man in chronic convalescence of life. Maybe a selfless and splendid woman like a black slave.

Please, react to Serú Girán self-titled track from their self-titled debut album (which includes the track from this video as well). This song and album are on Spotify. Nice to see your videos of Caifanes and Serú Girán, my two favourite spanish-speaking bands ever. Regarding the video, it was recorded for an Argentinian TV special in the late 70's. Apparently, this video was hidden for 30 years, as it was just unveiled three years ago. It is not a live set but a playback performance.

It is simply a work of art. I recommend you go to the beginning of charly garcia and listen to sui generis, a song called "learning." At that time I was 21 years old, although that group formed a couple of years before. It is an institution of our rock. greetings man and good start of the year

La Maquina de Hacer Pajaros was Charly's Prog rock band. But you can also hear prog rock influences on some of Seru Giran's records and the last one from Sui Generis (Instituciones)

Very nice video about one of my favorite bands! Thanks for analyzing this... Though I'm kinda disappointed you didn't say anything about the bass :( Pedro Aznar is one of the greatest bass players I've heard, you should pay more attention to what he does... Anyways, maybe I'm just obsessed with the way he plays 😅 but he really is amazing. Hope you get to know more about his music, he is also a great singer, guitarist, pianist, etc... Amazing musician overall! Charly is certainly a master, but Pedro Aznar has great things to offer to this musical world as well! Just listen at what they did together! Thanks again for the video, really enjoyed it!
