In this video we're checking out Eivor for the first time. We did a bit of reading about this one. She's the Faroe Islands, between the coasts of Iceland and Scotland. This should make for some interesting music. Let's take a listen. Enjoy!

she had a lot of training, as a fact. she started in 1999 with her band clickhaze. she later moved to reykjavík to study music. and she outshines evry other artist with her uniqueness and her vocal powerhouse. she also includes throat singing an kulning into her songs. if you want to listen to some of her other songs ( which i highly reccomend ) í tokuni music video for a phenomenal beat boxes live 2012 for her higher register truth live at studio bloch - jawdropping, modern, lower register gloomy sunday for her jazz-side in suit and tie the last kingdom main theme live for her absolute primal beast mode tròdlabùndin for being one of her most favourite songs slor london solo sessions for her impressive solo skills whatever you pick, there will be no disappointment. i often hear people compare her to aurora, but to be honest. she outshines every other artist effortlessly. it's not ment to be negative, i love aurora too, but in terms of vocal power, breath control, ...., she is just a whole different league. i love and adore björk for example eversince, but even her vocals are outshined by eivor. in terms of importance to the faeroe islands she is often compared with björk, both coming from small islands with a tiny population but they managed to put their home countries onto the world map of music. and while björk is synonymous for iceland, so is eivor for the faero islands.

Hi Guys, thanks for my favourite EIVOR! Yes, she did opera-voice study in Reikjavik, yes, she mentioned that her big influences are Kate Bush, Bjork and also Joni Mitchell (if I'm not wrong? I did met her in real life before the concert - she is an amazing. nice lady with the good sense of humour :D

I have heard her before and I think she's amazing. You really should feature more of her in the future because this barely scratches the surface of her talents. Kind of Viking Kate Bush

Reaction as expected. Everyone, but everyone is blown away by that performance. Eivør has been dubbed the “Nordic Kate Bush”, who she cites as a main influence, and she is a goddess. There are many beautiful songs from her, with the various live performances usually being better than the studio recordings. For a more recent performance, and one that is yet again a little different, please do listen to her live performance of the “The Last Kingdom” theme from London’s Hammersmith Apollo earlier this year - very tribal very primal. Her singing is all over that Netflix Viking drama.

I must correct you. Eivør is not Danish and she is not Icelandic either. Eivør is Faroese and from the 18 isolated islands in the North Atlantic called the Faroes. The Faroe Islands are a colony of Denmark just as Greenland is a colony of Denmark. But the Faroe Islands have their own government and the oldest parliament in Europe. Faroese do not like to be compared to the population of Denmark because the Faroe Islands and Denmark are not culturally the same at all. They are very different. So Eivør is Faroese and from the Faroe Islands that have their own language which is the original Nordic Viking language. Eivør often sings in her Faroese/Viking language, but she also sings in English as she does here. Eivør sings Viking songs throughout the series and also in the film on Netflix called The Last Kingdom

Correction: The oldest parliament in the world, is the Alting in Iceland. Yeah, I know Iceland is technically half in Europe, half in North America, but still. The Alting goes back to 930 AD. Anorher correction: Theres no Faroese citizenship, Faroese people have Danish citizenship, so yes, they are Danish. They also use Danish passports, and to my knowledge, also Danish driver's license. Although I would at all time call Eivør Faroese, and never a Dane, technically she is Danish.

@@akyhne You are totally wrong about that. I don't know where you are from but your information is wrong. The Faroe Islands were populated long before there were any humans on Iceland. The Faroe Islands were populated by Celts in 625 and after the Celts came the Vikings and settled on the Faroe Islands. At that time, no human existed in Iceland. Approx. 150 years after the Vikings settled in the Faroe Islands, Vikings came to Iceland. After many years, the Vikings in Icland started Altingið (the Icelandic Parliament). At that time, Løgtingið the (parliament) of the Faroe Islands had existed for over 100 years. So Iceland was not populated by Vikings until many years after the Faroe Islands were populated by Vikings and Altinget ( the parliament) only came into being 150 - 200 years after Løgtingið on the Faroes. So remember now that Iceland and the Icelandic language are much younger than the Viking culture on the Faroe Islands and the Viking language on the Faroe Islands, which is the oldest and best preserved Old Norse language in the world today. This is because the islands are so isolated away from everything and thus the language is not influenced from outside, even though the Danish authorities tried to destroy the Faroese Viking language in the 1800s and up to the middle of the 1900s. The Faroese refused to change their Viking language and refused to speak Danish. The Danes had to bend so the Faroese have their Viking language today as their first language which is called Faroese and Danish as their second language. The Faroese have their own passport and their own driving licence, so your information about that is also incorrect. All Faroese in the Faroe Islands must have a Faroese driver's license, but Faroese can choose to get a Danish passport if they wish. It can make it easier if a Faroese travels to the USA because the people in the USA have almost no knowledge of the world outside the USA, but they have heard of Denmark so it makes border control and general control easier. That you insist that a Faroese is a Dane just shows how little you know about the Danish Kingdom. The Faroe Islands are moving away from Denmark and the Faroes have almost 100% of the power in the Faroe Islands. There are only a few areas left, so the Faroes have 100% control over their islands. And if you ask Eivør if she is Danish, she will say no, but to make you understand a little about where in the world she comes from, she will mention Denmark so that you don't feel ignorant about the world. But remember now the Faroe Islands have their own language which is the oldest and best preserved Viking language in the world they call Faroese. The Faroese have their own driving licence. Their own passport and their own social security number. As I said, I don't know where you come from, but you clearly don't know about the history of the North Atlantic.

@@roykilgour9790 My main point was that Faroese people are Danish. They are. They have Danish citizenship. About the language, you are wrong. Danish, or for that matter all Scandinavian languages, have the same history. So Faroese is not older. Yes, it's more close to old Norse, but that's it. I didn't claim you had Danish driver's licence. I wrote "to my knowledge". About the Faroese passport - I didn't know that. But by looking at pictures online, it's basically a Danish passport, with a green cover. DANISH!

You know nothing about what you have written so far. Everything you have written you have picked from Google. The Faroe Islands go under the radar at Google and language control on the web because the language is the original Nordic language that none of the other Nordic countries speak. Their language has changed so much over the years that they do not understand Faroese. So of course Faroese is the oldest Nordic language. Old Norse in the Faroe Islands, it has never been changed from the outside. As I said, the Danish authorities tried to force the Faroese to speak Danish instead of Faroese, but they did not succeed. The Danes gave up and the Faroese took power over their own language and their own schools. The Faroe Islands have also taken over social policy and, as I said, have their own parliament, which itself governs the Faroe Islands and the Faroese economy. There isn't much more to cover without a few points. The Danish Minister of State said a few weeks ago that the future of the Kingdom of Denmark was three independent countries in one kingdom. The Prime Minister says this because Denmark is trying to find solutions so that Denmark does not lose the Faroe Islands. If Denmark loses the Faroe Islands, Denmark loses one of its great influence in NATO and a territory that is much larger than Denmark itself. The Faroe Islands are moving away from Denmark and the Faroe Islands are taking a large part of the North Sea with them because that part of the North Sea is Faroese property. So don't build your knowledge from google. Goggle is often only indicative and this applies to goggle regarding the Faroe Islands. For your information, it is an insult to say to a Faroese that he/she is Danish. So if you ever meet Eivør or another Faroese, don't claim that they are Danes. What country do you live in and were you born there? Og svarða nú erligt ùppá tað sum eg spyrji teg um. Hav annars eitt gott kvøld.

European teams always hope to draw The Faroe 🇫🇴 Islands 🏝 or San Marino 🇸🇲 in their qualifying groups for the World Cup 🏆 ⚽️ & be virtually guaranteed 6 points. Very nice song .. Poignant.

I seen the comment about a guaranteed 6 points if they’re in your group at the footy , Scotland have had them in their group many times and normally your right , until that night in 2002 and the disgrace of a 2-2 draw in the Faroe Islands was inflicted on us ! The shame !! 😅 As for the song , never heard of her , not really my thing BUT even a wizened auld bah humbug merchant like myself can now n again be drawn to the light and admit she has a hauntingly beautiful voice and it was a pleasing song done with passion and grace . Her talent for singing live would put many LA Divas to shame with their many ways to modulate and fake their voices to sound as good as this live . 👍🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿
