EK CIVIC GETS NEW COILOVERS | S3 Suspension Street/Track Coilover Install + TOUGE Test | Honda Build
The EK Hatch TRACK BUILD finally gets an updated suspension set up with BRAND NEW S3 Suspension Street/Track Coilover Kit!
The previous Ground Control/Koni combo has seen many years of use & although it has proven itself to be a great setup, it was due for an upgrade.
We are now running a fully threaded Coilover with proper preload on stiffer Swift Springs 14kg/10kg, which is quite a step up from the GC old rates 8kg/7kg. The S3 kit also includes a helper spring & a 32-way adjustable damper.
In this video, we give these S3 offerings a good test to see if these coilovers are truly a good option for your 90’s Honda street & track build. Enjoy!!

Just for the sake of spreading knowledge on a subject that people seem to constantly get it wrong likely due to crap companies like BC coilovers spreading misinformation so they can sell universal threaded shock body coilovers just producing different brackets to fit different cars. Proper way to adjust shock body length & ride height is as follows. Remove spring install coilover w/o spring adj lower perch to set shock body length while checking full travel for clearance adjust the shock body length via lower perch extending so that the bump stomp engages before wheels contact fender/liner under full compression adding length to shock body for maximum droop with no rubbing or bottoming out lock the lower perch ( never touch it again) reinstall spring using upper perch to fine tune adjusting ride height often referred to as preload adjustment if your lowering it so much that springs are free to move up and down during droop than you need helper springs and/or you're likely running far too low or too stiff of spring rate or both. Contrary to popular belief stiffer isn't better technically the goal is to run as soft as possible as much mechanical grip as possible as much travel as possible while just stiff enough to prevent excess dive /squat & unwanted body roll / compression under load from aero. With so many bumpy tracks & rough roads tune roll as soft as you can still stiffer than stock but soft enough to maintain tire contact not lifting wheel as much traction / grip/ weigh transfer feel & tune body roll with sway bars aka anti roll bars Always use top perch to adjust ride height only adjust lower perch to set initial body length for max compression & droop. And a very very good tip mentioned in video to always clock/compress suspension bushings before final tq if tightened in the air once compressed if already tightened can tear bushings once under weight 🤙

Thanks for adding valid technical points! I personally am running a stiffer spring rate because this car is more dedicated for track use. Since this video has been made, the car has seen a track day on the stiffer spring rate and overall, I’d say the car feels more stable at higher speed transitions and heavy braking (as I anticipated) I appreciate you going into depth with the coilover information and hopefully this will help out anyone else with related questions🙏

Nice video! I've been thinking of switching out my Skunk2 coilovers for some S3 ones on my EG hatch. I also liked the Hot Version translator voice change lol. I seen a good way to measure the ride height is measuring from the fender to the ground.

Yes, definitely a good option to consider and glad you liked the edits hahah! On this car I usually use the jack point for height measurement since the fenders are pulled and rolled, but yes you can do that as well. Doesn’t hurt to take note of both!

It’s more on the stiff side, might be a bit much for some if it’s on a daily but they do have other options with softer spring rates that would be more suitable for something that’s going to be mainly used for street
