This is a video experiment dedicated to promote our newly launched website www.svetimageda.lt (in Lithuanian only). The website is a digital “handbook”, full of advices on how all of us can react to racial, homophobic, other kind of bullying and hate speech not only online, but also in mass media, on the streets, at schools, work, etc.
How was the experiment made? We invited people (not professional actors) to participate in a casting for an ad. In advance, we gave no specifics on what the ad would be about. When they had arrived, we asked them to wait a second in our waiting room. They had no clue the waiting room was in fact fake, and we were filming them already there with our hidden cameras.
What happened next - watch in the video (in English).
NOTE: All the people exposed in the video have given us a permition to do so. Parents of the child were informed prior the experiment.
For the experiment we thank the video-making crew:
Idea: Dangiras Bugas, Rokas Tarabilda
Producer: Rūta Bučiūnaitė
Director: Mindaugas Sruogius
Director of photography: Audrius Budrys
Set design: Dalia Dūdėnaitė, Domas Butkus
Sound: Ignas Mateika
Music: Vainius Sodeika
Post-production: Rokas Šydeikis
Title design: Martynas Kazimierėnas

Šaunuoliai video kūrėjai ! Jautrokas video. Deja Lietuvoje daugelis žmonių užkliūna. Stori,ploni,aukšti,maži. O juodaodžiai dar labiau. Gėda už kai kuriuos Lietuvius. Mes visi lygūs :))

kaunaz Taip, užsieniečiai, pavyzdžiui, negali balsuoti Seimo ar prezidento rinkimuose, ne ES piliečių galimybės gyventi yra ribojamos. Taip yra jau dabar ir šitas klipas niekaip nesikėsina šito pakeisti, tiesiog parodo nepelnytai kitos rasės atstovui rodomos grubios nepagarbos šlykštumą.

Rockownz5150 man tai nieko neparodo.

@kaunaz
@kaunaz 9 жыл бұрын

Mark Lee Making someone afraid for their safety is the issue, and technically racism is political. You can argue the semantics but the result is the same as actual acts of violence, and if you kill someone then they are no longer afraid, the fear applies to people who are not killed.

And fellow Muslims and I come the point where i realized that eupeans have the least number of racism according to Arabs. And one point of my life a European family raised me right after I come from arab racism and I was so scared of this family thinking they are whiter than Arabs and they might hit harder but they become angels of my life That I call them every weekend from long distance

I see many voices here, for sympathy and some for 'getting over it'. For people who are considered minorities, it's not always that easy because its the amount that is shown to us. We cannot move forward or 'get over it', because it always comes back. I have respect for these people who didn't want to and those who did, because it is a glimpse of what all minorities struggle with. Stereotypes, hatred, 'getting over it', all of these are with us every day. All I ask is you understand that, have some empathy.

Very touching to see the responses of those who could translate. I could see their compassion and pain for injustice to humanity. It is important to understand that although we may look different on the outside we each deserve dignity and respect as fellow human beings. Think about how people may be treated differently just because they may be elderly (they are still that same person inside that they were as a young person) or how an individual who does not meet the "Hollywood" standard of beauty may be treated. Cultivate love. I agree completely with Sanjay Ramzam; well put Sanjay, well said.

I am lithuanian and reading all these racist comments is tough. It makes me wana move to other country or something. But you will never hear anything like this in the street, or in real life. There are racists and haters in comments, but they are weak and shy in real life. I was happy to see this video, but when i read comments... its just horrible.... I still dont get why some lithuanians are so racist. I simply dont get racism in general. So i have hope that people in here will change :)

It's such a shame that a few cowardly internet trolls can have the power to influence a persons opinion of an entire culture. Be careful not to generalize a whole population based on a few terrible people. It is easy to perpetuate bigotry that way, even if you had the best intentions. If you ever do get the opportunity to go to Lithuania, I would encourage you to go. It is such a beautiful country. I had a wonderful opportunity to live in Vilnius for a four month internship. I feel like I left a piece of my heart there. I feel like maybe this video is a preventive measure to help educate people before bigotry becomes a problem. In all my time there, I never saw any issues with bigotry. The people were all very kind. I feel like the USA has a bigger problem with bigotry. Not a day goes by here in Utah, USA, where I don't hear hateful comments about a persons sexuality, gender or race...

Thomas Mariani I wouldn't want foreigners judging all Americans based on, say, the comments section in a FoxNews article about Trayvon Martin or any article about Obama linked from the Drudge Report. Let's not rush to judge an entire country based on its trolls. (Because American would look hella bad).

+Lord Sandwich in my opinion, the advertisement is meaningless. Lithuania is not a lot of blacks, so the same problem also does not. The more racism in our country? Jesus. of course here, are skinheads, and other types of people, but such is everywhere. Lithuania too small country that one or the other case remain undiscovered, the more the majority of the Lithuanian people who live their lives and they at least care about the other person's color, religion or sexual orientation. Unless those human causes to yourself out any action. In my area, living black Family: a man and his wife and two children, they have a daily shuttle bus with me, I never saw hostile against them. but I have seen black people as a group of not sober tourists. they had been molested the girls on the bus. later boarded a bus in the Russian-speaking young people quarreled with blacks for indecent behavior with the girls (girls female students, Lithuanian-speaking) all fights ended when the Russian-speaking guys threw blacks out of the bus. But in my opinion it is not related to race, it's just a conflict provoked by indecent behavior in public.

Of course you'd get the good people who would be appalled, but at the same time, you have to realize there would be a lot of laughs just reading this terrible hate speech. And it's all culture biased, but so heartbreaking in terms of the reality of it... It's such a beautiful piece!

Oh god these comments... "[...] Black guy should translate" , "To show of inherently evil the original sin of being white is" or, in my opinion, the best : "Everybody sould live in their own country". Seriously guys? This is about cybermobbing and the fact, that those people, eventhough they arn´t even slightly involved in the text message; can´t translate it because telling somebody that sort of thing face-to-face, istead of just sitting on the computer and writing this stuff. And you with those comments are the one group which are spoken to. Try to say that thing to a black guy in the streets. And no, before you are coming with comments like "Uh, no, I just will get shot at the ghetto" then go on NORMAL streets. End of me, your turn.

I agree with the message but Lithuania will be wiped off the face of the Earth in 10 months or less if our economy improves and we get 3rd world immigration due to EU opened borders. I live in England and believe me it's not as bad as the racist bastards here who claim "they can't get jobs" are making out. Most immigrants get same amount of money as a British citizen yet British people refuse to these "demeaning jobs" forcing people to hire from abroad. Kimberley ! Err I know loads of people on job seeker allowance that refuse to go and do these warehouse jobs because they are 12 hour shifts and they are local only 20min walk away but they refuse to because apparently it's "shit". And I have been told they're always hiring but alot of the workers there are polish but they always need more staff but struggle to get them. Don't comment on things you don't even follow or do you track what organizations struggle to get employers that require no qualifications and are easy to get to? Probably not, you're probably just one of those run of the mill UK racists voting for UKIP...

i'm sorry but i'll have to disagree with quite a lot of people in the comments - race blindness is a huge problem. just because you personally decide "i won't judge you based on you being black, we're all the same" you ignore that this is a reoccuring problem that black people receive. for example, at the beginning at the video, all the people seemed insensitive - blind that this could be a common occurence to the man in the video, blind to the fact that this even happens. you would be instead ignoring this problem at all, pretending it doesn't exist because it doesn't happen to you
