I assume you all probably realized afterward, but no time passed between the finale and the movie. After the flashback with Mike, they cut to him in the car literally driving away from the nazis hideout after leaving Walt. The cops he met were the ones you saw in the final moments with Walt’s dead body.

They were just confused because the makeup department only did an okay job in regards to continuation. Aaron Paul looks almost like he did in the final episode but not 100%. So if you jump right into the movie after BB you can get puzzled by things like the different beard.

I remember at the start of the series when I saw Jesse's friends and thought "this guys are just going to be canon fodder, or be in the way". I'm glad that they actually had a lot of weight in the story as well. Combo was the one who gave Jesse the RV, they were key when Walter and Jesse handled distribution, Combo's death was key into Jesse's character arc, Badger was the key to introduce the character of Saul Goodman, they helped Jesse to sell drugs to people in rehab and actually started to rehab themselves as well, they helped Jesse with the pest control cover operation, they helped Walter threaten Gretchen and Elliot, and they helped Jesse in this movie. In the end, while not good influences, they were very good and loyal friends.

Robert Forster who played the vaccume guy died about when the movie came out. The cast and crew assumed that he never saw the movie but I found some comentary clips where Aaron Paul reveald that he got a call from him revealing that he did watch the movie and told Aaron that. Apparently he died about a few hours after the call. Its incredably hearwarming that even at deaths door he still waited enough to watch the movie and telling Aaron about it and then dying almost like he did what he wanted before passing away. Its both sad and nice.

Yeah, the story is from Jesse's perspective and in his eyes his parents are antagonists that stop him from getting what he wants. If you would look at it from a neutral point of view, or theirs, you'd probably agree with much of what they're doing. It's kind of the same with Skylar. So many people hate her because she's often fighting against Walt for what he wanted, while in reality being a normal person trying not to have your family destroyed by your husband making meth is pretty reasonable.

@@clarkmichaels822I hear you, but not only do I think that S&P are too inconsiderate for Jesse's parents, I think they are harsher on them than Jesse would at his point in his life. In regard to the Skylar thing, I also hear you, however, in shows where we see life through the POV of different main characters, S&P also failed to empathize with some characters, because the flaws of characters they loved didn't bother them. For eg, _Game of Thrones._ S&P often failed to see all the ways Sansa is a prisoner of the Lannisters, and therefore a prisoner of Tyrion too. They didn't see how it was completely unwarranted for Tyrion to expect Sansa to eventually warm up to him, and basically believed that she should be grateful because it could have been worse. I think the reason many fans don't sympathize with Skylar or Jesse's parents, is not just because Walt and Jesse are the main characters, and the story is told through their POV. It's also because they don't think as critically about how the main characters affect the supporting ones, which is why they don't empathize with them. This is why I like reading reviews and listening to podcasts that analyzes stories, because they typically go deeper, and teach you to have more consideration for things you only glance at. Finally, without spoiling anything, and naming any characters, this is one area in which _Better Call Saul_ is superior to _Breaking Bad,_ because it deliberately goes deeper into the lives of various supporting characters, and we empathize more with them, even when the main character affects them negatively.

I mean, if you understand why Skyler tried to divorce Walter, tried to keep the kids away from him, then you should understand why Jesse's parents cut ties with him when they found the meth lab in the house's basement. Just look at the rest of Jesse's relationships: Combo killed for selling in the wrong territory (Jesse put him there), Jane she was left to die (Because Jesse contributed to her relapsing and he was partners with Walter), Andrea lost her brother because of Jesse's involvement, then she was killed as punishment for Jesse trying to escape, Brock was poisoned, and after he survived his mother died and HE was probably the one who found her. Honestly, the reason why Jesse's parents and his brother stayed safe and unharmed was because they cut relations with him very early.

12:38 This scene with Skinny Pete and Jesse always got me, from Skinny Pete's perspective Jesse was always that friend who dipped in and out of his life, although this time it was different. This time Jesse was running away to Alaska and Skinny Pete had no idea this was the last time he would ever see Jesse again, they also never got told where Jesse was going so he could never go looking for him. Considering Jesse had a new identity to protect I think its safe to say he never returned to New Mexico or contacted old connections. He literally never saw Skinny Pete or Badger again. I don't know why it just gets me, maybe it's because from past experiences Skinny Pete is probably expecting Jesse to show up again like old times, but bro literally grew old never seeing his hero/friend again, never knowing if he made it or died trying. That's deep.

i absolutely agree with the decision to not jump immediately into better call saul. i love it so much, but too often I see people not appreciate it because it starts off slow, just like season 1 of breaking bad. It's much better to go into it with a fresh view, instead of just expecting more of breaking bad. it's an entirely different vibe, so you will only be disappointed if go into it expect breaking bad 2.

Season 1 of BB was Not slow at all. lol A lot of action and universe building went on. Where BSC was a slow burn for like the first 3 seasons cuz it focused on it's own story for the most part. It wasn't until the BB storyline starts, is where it really took off.

Evolving (devolving Saul) with his own journey. It can't be the same as Walt's cuz it's not the same motivation. The only people that say BB starts off slow are people that, (for some reason) feel like it's a competition between the two shows. Like one has to put down one show to appreciate the other. They both are strong writing but just different tones and different pace. It has to be cuz they focus on different characters.

Charles Baker, who played Skinny Pete is a great actor, writer, and pianist. He even plays a quick melody on Breaking Bad. He's been in a lot of TV shows and movies. He made this role great, the writers even expanded his role from the original story.

I like the juxtaposition of Jesse at the end of BB and the end of this. In BB, he’s in his car, driving away yelling and clearly not ok. Here, he’s driving in his car and has accepted what has happened, and able to move on. Also, the credits song is really fantastic and fits well for Jesse’s story

911 only asks you to stay on the line if it is an emergency when you call for a not emergency you should be calling the none emergency phone number, but if you do call 911 for something that is not considered an emergency they will sometimes let you go and might call back in a bit to check. That diner that Walt and Jessie were at is a New Mexico landmark. The last time I was in Albuquerque my wife and I ate there. I forgot that it was in this movie. The distance from Todds apartment and the burial sight of his cleaning lady is every bit of a two-hour drive. It's a very desolate spot called the Bistui Bad Lands. Nothing grows out there. There is no cell phone coverage. There are high deposits of uranium in that area. That place always gives me a feeling of being on another planet. It is between Gallup and Farmington. It's not super far from the site of the train heist.

In defense of Jesse's parents, continuing to help an addict just enables them to stay an addict. The only help that you can give is to help them get into rehab, and most addicts are in denial or just aren't interested in getting clean. Anything else will just make it easier to stay an addict. In most cases, the best way to get an addict to want to get clean is to let them hit rock bottom, and as long as they have a roof over their head, access to a hot shower, a bed, food to eat, and, most likely, no job, that's not likely to happen. My Mom was a severe alcoholic. After years of trying to talk her into getting help, I couldn't take the pain of watching her turn into someone I no longer recognized. I told her that I couldn't have contact with her anymore because it hurt too much. She agreed to go to rehab immediately after. Granted, it's not that easy with everyone, but it's the best shot.

Jessie goes to his parents house specifically because he knows he can get guns there. The parents didn't keep the guns for "when Jessie came" or for any weird reasons that you might think.. they're just American. Many of us just own/shoot guns as a hobby but I don't think thats the way you interpreted the scene because of cultural differences most likely. It really dawned on me after the shoot out scene that the Breaking Bad universe is essentially a neo western. Aside from it obviously being set in the desert and the shoot outs, it also has many western themes and elements like having morally gray characters, redemption, the cartel being stand in for banditos, Hank being the sheriff in town who actually cares about taking down Gus and Walter, etc. Also Jesse and that guy just have the usual quick draw show down with their guns. A Mexican standoff includes three people or more aiming guns at each other

Just so you know: the cinematography didn't came out of nowhere or because it's a movie. The team, at this point, have been working on BB/BCS for more than 10 years. In BCS they started to get REALLY creative with the shots and this was before S6 (in the final season, almost all episodes look/feel like a movie)

The guns at jesses parent are old family guns Jesse knew about. He needed those to gain acces to the money. they are not for protection against Jesse. the ending of these characters that you mentioned at the beginning of the video is already very clear and decided, Walter Jr and Skayler are living their normal lives traumatized by Walter, Saul ran away that's all we know but in better call saul it's much more explained, Marie stayed widow living with this weight, Walter died, Jesse in this film tells his journey, I believe that the creator of Breaking Bad didn't want to make scenes of characters living their normal lives because that would be very crude, the way it was done it was good, it was with our own imagination in this fictional world

Yea that was the conversation that Mike and Jesse had about planning on quitting because Mike had just told him that the DEA is on to him and Jesse doesn't like who Walt has become and doesn't want anymore people to die because of them so they went to that lake area to talk. No Jesse and Jane, Jesse said New Zealand not Alaska he got that idea from Mike and we heard him say that the day Saul was getting him to go to meet the vacuum guy to start his new life before Jesse left and messed everything up.
