Don’t know what community your from, what demograph but El has always been a musical genius over here. As a musician myself we’ve always recognized his talent of song, songwriting, composing and musicianship
@RocStarr9135 ай бұрын
@@I_be_eI’m white. Arguably my community was what El’s solo music was really aiming at the most during this time. Motown likely saw him as their Whitney Houston of sorts at the time. Was DeBarge talented, yes, but Motown made El so middle of the road during this time because of the crossover success of “Rhythm Of The Night” and “Who’s Johnny.” They had him record songs by songwriters-for-hire and unfortunately, the fickle younger audience just moved on to other performers that ended up being more popular.

The DeBarge group was mostly never very popular with young white people who were the main record buyers. It was always either mostly black listeners and older white people that liked them, but never the main MTV audience, and that had continued into El’s solo career. “Rhythm Of The Night” was the DeBarge group’s only music video and that is a big part of why that demographic never really connected with the DeBarge group. Also, El was too tied to his siblings in the minds of most people and both of his previous singles “Who’s Johnny” and “Love Always” pretty much killed any chance of El reaching a broader audience solo from the start.

@@RocStarr913 That's true - so sad. People are a product of their surroundings/ environment. I wonder if God was trying to scourge them for being disobedient to Him. God scourges those whom He Loves. I guess I won't know until I go back to Heaven. Long story short- yes I've been there. Some people think I'm crazy- but they will think otherwise when they experience the 2nd death. They will say He was right- He didn't lie about being elect of the Most High God.

That’s family genes for you. It’s been said that when El recorded “I Like It”, the producer of the song, Iris Gordy, had to really goad him into singing in a falsetto range in that last section of the song recording because El was actually too afraid he’d sound just like Bobby.
