Hey Andrew. Great video. I am one of those 50 something Americans who moved to El Salvador. I'm far from a philosopher or an artist, lol. I'm retired law enforcement. I'm only here four months. I have started the process of getting citizenship the normal way, which starts with residency. Not hard, just a little time consuming, but well worth it. My wife is from here originally. She spent 35 years in the US and we both decided to retire here, or let's say semi-retire. We purchased some rental properties and live pretty well here. There are pros and cons to living here. It's definately not for everyone. Here are a few things that are important to me. PROS: Weather I come from the north east where winters are terrible. I wear shorts and a tee shirt everyday here. It is a bit humid but for me managable. I tend to like the heat. Cost of Living The cost of living is about half that of NY where I'm from. Back home a sandwich, coffee and fries in a diner runs me $27. Here in El Salvador, I am paying between $10-$15 for the same meal. Gas is slightly higher at $4.10 per gallon but most things are much more affordable here. Safety Since President Bukele dismantled the gangs and restored order, this country has become extremely safe. Much safer than many parts of the US. They have imprisoned upwards of 75,000 gang members. Homicides and violent crimes have nearly come to a halt. CONS: Traffic I am not referring to high volume. My complaint is aggressive driving. Motorists are extremely rude on roads and highways. No one yields to merging traffic. There are barely no traffic lights so every street, or avenue becomes a highway. Pedestrians are at extreme risk here. It is a hard adjustment. Poverty It is heart breaking and depressing to see how many Salvadorans are forced to live. There are signs of extreme poverty in most of the country with the exception of a few pockets of wealthy neighborhoods. There is not much of a middle class. Most of the country is poor. Prices for Salvadorans are high. I can't help but feel guilty being able to purchase anything I desire when most are struggling to survive. Food The food here is okay but I was pretty spoiled back home in NY. Chinese food here is barely edible. No mediterranean food to be found. A simple thing like a grilled chicken ceasar wrap does not exist here, lol. I am adjusting to the food but it is a little rough. Overall four months in, i'd have to say it was a good decision. El Salvador is the place for me and my wife. Oh, last item, a working knowledge of Spanish is a necessity. Very few people here know enough English to be able to help in most situations. I happen to be fluent. It can be a game changer. Learn some Spanish before coming here. No matter your age or background, it's a great place to start a new.😀

With any place new, before you jump in the deep end, it is wise to check it out. This means planning a trip to scout out the locations. Talk with the local people. Get a feel for the place. Figure out if you actually want to be there. Do you have what you want there? Is the status of the infrastructure the way you want it? Do you like the place? Do you feel safe? Does it meet your needs and wants? Do you "feel safe"? Do you feel welcomed? If there any is anything do not like/want, or question something, then perhaps it is not the solution you seek. It may not be a solution for you. This kind of trip probably will take around 2-3 months to really understand. For me, the litmus test for stuff like this is, do I feel comfortable having my elderly mother live with me there? I think you miss a point when you move here. In many cases when relocating you have assets where you STILL have to pay customs. UAE? 5% on the value of cars you move down. Philippines? Insane. Now, we do not talk new here - we may talk about a collector item I bought 5 years ago. This is the same for i.e. a doctor saying "Hey, I want to establish a clinic or move my practice there" - and then he runs into having to pay % of value of items on the move. They abandon THAT. Means you can buy some land, move your stuff down there and start earning (and paying taxes). I think this is a REALLY smart move. I am looking for locations to possibly move from Dubai (there are certain things here I dislike - not political, but I miss mountain roads, and the heat in summer is insane, so I think i.e. to move some of my stuff to south Italy to keep it there in summer) and during that I checked Thailand and Philippines and the idea to move cars THERE is insane - and my cars are partially collectors' items. Not paying 100% luxury tax when I move them. Really like that aspect. If you MOVE to there, you can move your possibly valuable stuff without taxation. NICE. We will show it lasts - but - well... it may be a place to wait out the Singularity and the insane changes we will see in the next years.

This is their Freedom Program. In their website it says that it costs $999 for the application fee then when you get approved you’ll have to pay almost $1M for the remaining balance. Fees are payable in bitcoin too. ALMOST synonymous to any other country’s Investment Program or Golden Visa route in our own opinion.

So the obvious question, what is quality of life and salary like compared to living in a US city as an engineer? What would the economics work as a working a local El Salvadorean engineering job versus one in the US, and my comparable savings over years?
@Alpha-Scythe234 ай бұрын
US will always be superior to El Salvador, El Salvador is the size of a grain of sand compared to the US or EU quality of life in US or EU has been and still will be consistent with higher salaries, benefits, better living and working conditions, growth/ advancement opportunities. At the end of the day it’s your personal preference but some research on El Salvador’s economy, and growth and building in new infrastructure should help you decide what’s best for your life.

I just cannot see many US Doctors or UK Chartered Accountants being attracted by this offer . Perhaps a semi retired Electrician or Car Mechanic would be attracted by the retirement with a good second passport would be attractive to them. Just think of the other Latino States you can live in for three months per year as well ! The only great point of El Salvador is the zero Tax on Crypto even though the US has been threatening Nations that openly accept Crypto as a Legal Tender with some type of sanctions if they continue ; especially if this offer is given to American Citizens ! The other attractive points with this Passport would be the Rights to live in other Latino States for three months each year and i hear the weather is very good ( if you like the sun !), and things are much cheaper than the US or western Europe. Not sure how the anti crime efforts are going or, if the quality of life is as good as that in Mexico , Brazil or Panama ? …..anyone done this yet ? Let Andrew’s Channel know so he can hopefully share your insights with his vadt audience !

@matthewnirenberg6 ай бұрын
Electricians and mechanics wouldn't qualify. Those aren't the professions being wanted. El Salvador only wants very highly skilled professionals as they're trying to build the country to be the next "place to be" and the leader in advanced technology. Honestly - the USA and EU can get stuffed - the more people (and countries) say "whatever" and "mind your own business", the better. The Caribbean CBI programs have some stupid idea that if they keep doing what the USA and EU demand, that they'll be able to keep their CBI programs - the USA and EU won't stop demanding the world until those programs end. Basically the USA and EU don't want their citizens to have any options to go anywhere else as they want to take all their wealth through taxation to try to cover up the financial disaster the govts have caused. The smart people are leaving now. El Salvador is doing well to ignore the USA and EU. BTC is a real currency as a result - now its up to people to demand their countries quit taxing it as crypto and that it gets taxed as currency (i.e. normally).

You will have to pass the end of highschool exams with very high marks, then qualify to enter the relevant university courses and pass them with high marks. Then its 10yrs of experience working in that field, then and only then are you able to actually lead projects, create knowledge and publish papers that create new knowledge and win industry awards. There's no "quick way" and don't bother with "diploma mills" or "fake quals" - literally every legitimate and recognized qualification is very easily verified online through the relevant governing bodies who authorized legitimate institutions to issue the qualifications. The days of people "faking it" are long gone in any 2nd or 1st world country. Also note that "faking it" in regulated professions will likely result in long jail sentences in most countries when found to not be genuinely qualified.
