00:22:41 Gracie Storie My wife and I have been incredibly fortunate to train with Chris Thompson at Lilius Barnatt in Torremolinos, Spain for over 2 years. After trying out other gyms, we can confidently say that he is the best coach out there. He incorporates catch techniques, including impressive leglocks, into jiu-jitsu that you wouldn't even imagine. I used to experience pain every day during training, thinking it was normal, but when he got injured, the pain miraculously disappeared. That catch style, with its emphasis on leglocks, is no joke. If you have the chance, I highly recommend visiting this gym as it's one of the top gyms in Europe, with many high-level athletes training there.
@KaedesOdyssey Жыл бұрын
Honestly, Catch wrestling isn't a big thing here in the UK. There's a few super dedicated circles up north, but that's it really. I train MMA and BJJ in the midlands, and most people here haven't even heard of catch wrestling, aside from some of the more dedicated grappler's. Most of the wrestling coaches I've met here come from eastern Europe, as there's not really any wrestling going on here, there's more pro style wrestling (still not many of those either) here than actual catch gyms.
@haraldodunkirk1432 Жыл бұрын
True. It’s a bit like when people talk about Japanese jiu-jitsu as though it’s widely done in Japan. It’s not. In Japan it’s mostly judo, some kosen judo, increasingly BJJ. Likewise in U.K. there’s lots of BJJ, judo and a little bit of freestyle wrestling. Tiny amount of Catch.
@SimonBJJ Жыл бұрын
There's a few gyms in the north where their style is influenced by catch and you'd be surprised about how much you do derives from catch Grappling is now a hybrid of all styles rather than separated as it used to be, but the North has a deep history with catch
@KaedesOdyssey Жыл бұрын
@@SimonBJJ 100%, I'd been looking at making a trip to Wigan to get some training in at Snake pit, it's a dedicated catch gym. Yeah, a lot of people don't realize how much BJJ has 'borrowed' from other sports, most gi takedowns are judo based, same for no-gi and freestyle/catch. Even down to the Kimura, originally being a double wrist lock, until it was used to beat a Gracie haha
@SimonBJJ Жыл бұрын
@@KaedesOdyssey honestly mate, I'd fuck snake pit off and get to a northern grappling gym that has embraced the hybrid style, my coach Kam at ASW Manchester is who I've learnt a fuck load from, I run Hive in didsbury and I teach more of a hybrid style there as well, most gyms in the North are very open door policy so you'd be welcome most places
@KaedesOdyssey Жыл бұрын

@@dylanmorgan2752 “JFK civil rights” leader… yeah that’s a fair point but he couldn’t get it though congress, that was LBJ. “He helped kick off the space race” not true. Space race started in 1955 and NASA was created in 1958 both under Eisenhower not JFK. “He averted us from nuclear war” not true, there was a secret agreement from the USSR and the US where the US would remove their weapons from Italy and Russia would not put weapons in Cuba. There is a much deeper story behind what really happened and we only know about this recently because of the Freedom of Information Acts and it’s written by historian Sheldon Stern (essentially Kennedy’s looked like the heroes when the reality was very different). “He invaded Vietnam when it was still a popular decision to do so” not true. Whilst JFK did support the war and provide resources to south Vietnam, (the first president to provide resources was Truman and the first President to send the first US combat troops to actually fight in Vietnam was LBJ and in 1965). RJK “helped kill the America mafia”, not true. He went after a few high profile names but nothing really changed, the five families still exist today. The person who really took decreased the strength of the American mafia was Rudy Giuliani as he was the first to use RICO, which really dented organised crime.

What do you mean, Craig? This was clearly Gordon Ryan...
@dylanmorgan2752 Жыл бұрын
@@bodidley3015 Didn’t sound that wrong. Watching the intro again he basically states that JFK started the space race which is true, helped avert nuclear war during the missile crisis, again true. Seems like the only things he was iffy on was calling him a civil rights leader which is pretty much true but could be contended. And that he started the Vietnam war which was his predecessor Eisenhower. Tell me if I missed something.
