Honestly - I can barely tell them apart. They sing in the same range. Bobby just had a little more strength but you got to work to hear it.

Motown ruined him. El trusted Berry Gordy and his executives and they let El down. by the mid 80's the people at Motown told El HIS MUSIC was too black. they stopped him from writing and producing his own music. which caused El to go into a depression. later, would caused the drug use. Motown had a Musical genius and a MEGA Superstar in their midst...couldn't SEE it or didn't want too.

To add to it their father sexually abused most of them.

Yep!!! Wouldn't even let him write and produce for OTHER artists. El could have been what Babyface was in the 80s and 90s; a triple threat at the top of the music industry who could sing AND write and produce for himself and others.

The music executives are demon possessed. As you know before Lucifer was cast out of heaven he produced and was a musical being. He uses music to pervert the masses here on earth but his days are numbered glory to Jesus.

What happened was that “Rhythm Of The Night,” which was written by a white woman and who became one of the best and most successful professional songwriters of the era, was such a massive crossover hit for DeBarge. “Who’s Holding Donna Now,” which was written by white people, was enormously popular particularly with older white audiences. But even before that, older white people loved DeBarge with “All This Love” and “Time Will Reveal.” Motown must have felt that El had the potential to be a massive star on his own, like Whitney Houston massive. Plus, they felt he was the only reliable one in DeBarge as his siblings in the group were all drug addicts. I long have believed El’s career never recovered from the 1986 self-titled debut solo album. The singles they gave him like “Who’s Johnny,” that one a really mediocre song,” and “Love Always” were definitely to continue to get white people into him, but the younger audiences across the board were losing interest in him. The songs were too middle of the road and too of their time.
