I was in the market to buy a Nissan Leaf because they had some good deals on used ones with plenty of mileage left on them a few months ago. But some folks addressed the reviews, that the Leaf was a tired model and just looks old. My response was "Good, then nobody will want to steal it. I don't need an envy-car with a trillion features I'll never use. I need something that gets me from A to B with a reliable track record." Missed out on getting it because my current car needed an overhaul after it got partially flooded & it wiped out my budget, but it turned out to be a good thing because I had to change jobs & I can't afford those payments today. Honestly, I hope my little Versa lasts another 200K miles at least so I can have time to save up for it's replacement (and I love my little bare-bones features car). I just started a "no buy year" today & hope I can halt and start reversing my debt (and earn skills to work from home, saving me mileage in the long run).

✨️Love your channel: I survived the nightmare of no money saved with high debt! Years ago I stopped going to shopping malls. I started buying used clothes household goods on Ebay and in thrift stores. I bought a derelict home and spent 8 years renovating. A home can be a huge money drain if not managed correctly. All furniture was bought on Craigslist. Walmart became my go to for groceries. My yard uses no water, or chemicals, it's biodiverse. Yes I traveled but very budget. After surviving a bankruptcy and near homelessness due to credit card spending, and no savings, I turned it all around at age 45 and now at 72 have a lifestyle that is debt free with, a healthy retirement fund and comfortable. Yes, I still work but at my own business 20 hours a week, still saving and investing.

I have TAPERED their use by having an arsenal of micro-fiber cloths (I would say maybe 40 of them from Walmart...also use them detailing my PAID FOR car...). The problem is, when you wipe up a spill with a cloth, you kind of need to hang it somewhere to dry before putting it in a separate laundry bag...that's the part I hate....However, I have cut WAY BACK on them!

Excellent video! I do take issue with life getting "harder and harder as you keep going through it." This has not been my experience and suspect many others would agree. Speaking as someone twice your age, I no longer care what others think about my choices, I have a better sense of what's truly important than I did at, say, twenty-five; I appreciate people and my relationships with them more; I have a better perspective on life's journey and what I want mine to look like. Finally, when you have a better relationship with yourself -- less self-critical and less critical of others , more willing to forgive -- life gets easier and much more fun. Just my two cents!

I worked retail 10 years and I learned not to buy Christmas. No dinner, no gifts, no decor, no parties, no Christmas dresses, no candles, no ornaments, no wrapping paper, no cards, no gift cards, no scotch tape, no baking, no Christmas tins to put the baking in. No taxi rides home from the parties, no alcohol, no wreaths, no secret Santa. When my husband married me and I told him no Christmas, he said it was a RELIEF to not to have to deal with it.

I save on several things by not buy or buying into. The only "treat" that I "should not" be buying, which I absolutely are paper towels. I also use them as facial tissue (Kleenex). They might not be as soft, but boy-oh-boy do they ABSORBE. I carry a sheet with me everywhere I go. Pactically everything else, no problem. Lastly, since January of 1984, I have paid NOT ONE ¢ENT on interest, surcharge, or late fee on ANYTHING. Even my nice used card, I purchased it ¢A$H. BUT, even with that, your videos have helped make me even better at minimalism and frugality. *_¡Keep up the great work, El Augustín!_*

Nice comments! I also use paper towels but only at night when I take my make-up off. They work well and I only need two sheets. What I actually use to take my make-up off is coconut oil. It does an excellent job, it leaves my face moisturized and it is so cheap! One jar lasts for about a year, lol. It gives me money to spend on something else. Any comments? Vote for coconut oil! 😂😂

A pretty good list all right. But we do buy paper towels. We foster cats and they, especially when kittens, are messy little things. The cost of the paper towels is more than offset by the time saved in not having to deal with piles of fabric towels used to clean up cat messes, and also there's a big savings in the "ewww, gross" factor. Other than that we don't really use paper towels.

The only difference is that if you buy a Lamborghini in EC, it’s a double edge sword and people might think you’re a narc and rather alienate you. Cause, let’s be honest, there aren’t many people down there who can even afford a Hyundai Accent, much less a Lambo so it’s highly questionable where the $ came from.

Frugality is not just about saving money, but it's about living a sustainable life that minimizes our harm to the earth. Nowadays, many people are living in very bad financial situations, because they never take the time to take control of their finances. Consumerism has tricked us into thinking that money is really complicated and we can pay money to solve all our problems.

I don’t even own a car 😂 no insurance payment, no parking payment, no spares, no taxes, no maintenance… no expenses. Where I live it’s cheaper to use Uber and if I need to go outside the city I just rent a car for the days I need it :) 😊

But seriously, I love the psychology behind the frugality, not necessarily the physical listing of what not to buy.

If people (in suits) have means or resources they can impact your bank account or anything else they wish to. In the right situation. Suits reference those with greater resources. Friends connections bank account whatever.

About not buying paper towels: I don’t have a washing machine or dryer, so am I supposed to let dirty rags sit for 7 to 10 days until I get to the Laundromat?

I refuse to buy laundry soap. I spend $18 for a 12lb bag of arm & hammer baking soda. I used to use their detergent but this works better and is much cheaper. I wish I'd known how good of a cleaner it is and how cheap it is yrs ago. Could've really saved some good $.

Never take out a loan for a car. Never buy a car newer than 5 years old (because it's basically depreciated as much as it's going to by that point).

I do buy new, but I keep my vehicles until about 250K miles. Buying new means I can be familiar with the entire maintenance history, and have more confidence that the occasional expensive repair is worth doing.

Does one HAVE stuff? Or does the stuff HAVE them? I've reached a phase of life where I DON'T WANT STUFF except of course the stuff needed daily for the 4 walls, health, food, etc.
