One of my best mini vacations was when my son and I drove to Washington DC to the Smithsonian. We stayed at a fairly inexpensive place and the museums and sights were FREE. It was an amazing 3 day trip and I’ll never forget it.

Hi Austin. I like your ideas except for home ownership. I bought a home last year and my mortgage is the same I was paying for a studio apt. I have 6 times the space. Room to allow my brother to stay rent free while he applies for disability...he had been living in a shelter for 4.5 years. Also, I run an airbnb out of my finished basement that pays half my mortgage. Buying a home has been a blessing to me and my family. Also, Im a disabled vet so I dont pay any property taxes.
@angelalaskodi3459

I agree. I live in California and pay $300 per month property tax, my home is paid off. If I were to rent this home, it would be at least $2,500 to 2,800 per month. So buying does pay off big time.

Why did you get into debt in the first place? It's common knowledge that debt is crippling... I've been very poor, but always lived below my needs. Curious, why would a person consider borrowing, instead of lifestyle adjustments... Thanks in advance!

Fantastic info. As you said at the beginning, everything is not for everybody. My biggest take away from your videos is how you realized what’s important at such an early age and stage of your life. You didn’t succumb to social expectations and are living on your own terms. While a few of the comments may pick apart your elements of your message: Eye on the ball, people…eye on the ball. Many of us got caught up in consumerism and made a lot of financial mistakes. Got into this frugal/minimalist lifestyle later than sooner. Keep up your messages.

Remember we also charge our E-car 1x a week. We do not pay a water bill. Our home is smaller than the average home so that helps cut costs. *Food* We grow 50% of our food. Dirt is a a natural antidepressant *Health Care* We are on Medicaid 4 months a year to avoid paying a $100 a mont fine in Calif.Receive 20% off of our power bill due to re-certifying each year when we are on Medicaid and have no income. We live in Quebec. When we start dating 15 years ago, we used to go camping all the time. We loves it! Now, it’s very difficult to find a spot that is not on private land or owned by a company. You need to go off trail or else, it cost 80 bucks for a single night and your are surrounded by 100 other campers. It sucks so much!!
@mikesamovarov4054
@mikesamovarov4054 Жыл бұрын
I'm in Quebec too. Parks and beaches are free here, you don't have to set up a tent. And if you do, it's expected that you pay for the ground maintenance and roads, those things aren't free and only users of those camp grounds should pay. Don't expect that the society will cover it for ya! Don't like it, go to wilderness and see how comfortable that is 😂 Oh wait, your car can't drive on anything but roads, so you can't access wilderness! You need to pay for those roads and light to lit it etc. Don't be entitled. Life costs, it's never free!
@mlemay2486
@mlemay2486 Жыл бұрын
@@mikesamovarov4054 I wouldn’t mind paying 80$/night for a camping ground with a minimum of space and privacy. But those seem to be gone. All the last places we tried, we were closely surrounded by many other camps. Very noisy, abundant smoke from all the fires, etc. So no, it’s just not worth it for us. We liked it when it was semi-off trail. When you could actually hear the nature around you. And it used to be easy to find. But anyways, we did end up finding a a spot off trail that is calm and fairly accessible.

Good perspective. You spend money on experiences and things for a better term that contributes to your life. I would add. If you are driving a beater and your goal is let's say a Lamborghini, don't first buy a VW, then a BMW then a Mercedes and finally your dream car. Save and invest for your dream car and when the time comes, buy it in cash.

#7 is what I want to start doing. I have family that I have not seen and I need to put aside my lazyness and just take short trips to see them. My mother is too old to travel like she use to, my sister has too many kids to pack up and see me and my place in San Francisco has no parking so it's hard for people to come see me. I think since I do love my family, it's my job to suck it up pack up my dog LOL and get my butt out there. I move every year sometimes every other year state to state sometimes out of the country, so travel is something I just see as stress.
