My squeak is the upper ball joint. Just added graphite powder to some grease. Lifted the car, removed the socket, Injected it. Clamped it back together. Went out for a drive, bingo. Fixed. Been fixed for 10,000 miles so far.

@@sundownbelow reduce friction or add anti-static properties. used it on my Audi A2, which is prone to front end suspension issues, suggested by another member of the Audi A2 forum. Works like a charm. Also used it in the bearings and got an extra 11mpg out of the car.

Very helpful thank you! I have a 2018 Model 3 (Dual-Motor/LR) with that horrible squeak (front passenger side) - will be going to Tesla in a few weeks for repair. Fingers crossed about the invoice...not under warranty anymore. Update: Fixed! Both control arms replaced. Fortunate to get at-home service (not sure if that's an option in other countries), around $90 per control arm. Wheel alignment had not been compromised.

Kathleen, are you in US? I live in Seattle area. Was the $90 ea through Tesla or another company? Did this include labor?

I had some other problem with squeaking while the wheel was turning which Tesla resolved by lubricating the lower intermediate shaft. I'm not sure if it's a permanent fix. More videos like these Bjørn!

I have this same problem with my '19 M3SR - Took it to Tesla, specifying the front left suspension was creaky, so they replaced two control arms *at the back(!)*. I'm tempted to just give up and DIY it now 😂

With the weight of the battery it's not surprising the suspension components wear out, the suspension layout is very similar to the larger BMW ICE cars which here in Australia at least only last around 150 thousand km before needing to be rebuilt.

There is a german channel (zimmermann) where they even replace a 1 year old tesla y suspension because it just failed. Tesla used too cheap components with german autobahn the pressure to the suspension is in the long run too high.

It is similiar to all premium cars (multilink/ double wishbone). They all can require replacement at 200 thousand km. Nothing out of the ordinary.

@@Francis-yc9nc yeh but tbf, roads here are very coarse and rough with a few exceptions (i.e. sunshine coast or gold coast motorway). Driving 120km/h here feels same as going 160km/h in germany....

Great informative video on the suspension work. May I ask what they recommend for wheel alignment with what height of air suspension? I read best to have standard or low. Preserve shafts versus tyres. Could you also do a video on the camber rear adjustment options. Thanks again for this video.

Regarding the bolt, I was told that the reason for the way it is installed is because the head is less likely to penetrate the battery in an accident compared to the other end with the nut...

Can you not press new rubber bushes / joints into the existing arms or do the refurbisher do that. Hopefully not just binned.

I think you can press them out, but its cheaper to just buy new arms (unless you're converting to poly bushes).

@@martymar7465 170k is a little early, maybe, compared to some cars at least, but the repair was not too expensive. At similar mileage a turbo VW with a DSG would be needing very serious maintenance or even be scrap-worthy. All the plastic engine and electrical components would be becoming fragile and resale would be in the toilet. Meanwhile your car is still in its prime with what is really minor maintenance being a heavy car.

This is happening to every car it does not matter if it is electric, but the build quality is different, and depends how many pot holes you hit. Now if the car is powerfull you will need better joints, then sometimes aftermarket ones could be better.
@anzew88
@anzew88 Жыл бұрын
Usually first built control arm hold up way past 200 000km, every later aftermarket control arms are much worse and less durable. I replaced my aftetrmarket ones every year on the VW, now I went and bought the expensive shit at VW, original ones and so far they are holding up.
