Comparison of straight sword attack animations, jugging, sprinting, rolling, drinking estussy and parrying.
Attacking normal speed: (0:00)
Attacking 0.50 speed: (0:09)
Attacking 0.25 speed: (0:26)
Jugging normal speed: (1:00)
Sprinting normal speed: (1:14)
Jugging 0.50 speed: (1:28)
Sprinting 0.50 speed: (1:55)
Rolling normal speed: (2:22)
Rolling 0.50 speed: (2:36)
Rolling 0.25 speed: (3:05)
Drinking Estussy normal speed: (4:00)
Drinking Estussy 0.50 speed: (4:07)
Parrying normal speed: (4:21)
Parrying 0.50 speed: (4:26)
Parrying 0.25 speed: (4:37)
What can be derived from this video:
1. Obviously, straight sword now have completely different moveset. In my opinion - DS1's "2 strikes - repeat" style is better beause it is more gamey and the animation is more pronounced.
2. In ER Jugging and sprinting is faster - it covers more ground in same run length.
In both animations arm movements is less pronounced AND arms are always down instead of being held up - DS1 has arms moving actively while ER is more boring and less energized.
3. DS1's Jugging have smaller steps - this combined with arms up being held up it gave a lot more energized and alert feeling to the character.
That and slower speed of movement result, in my opinion, in more grounded and realistic animations, while also being more stylish and distinct contrary to ER's boring and uneventful jogging and sprinting.
4. Rolling is almost exatly the same, i even had troubles splicing timings of fragments. I believe that ER's rolls have faster recovery and allow for faster consequtive rolls. Overall, the animation is also more fluid and less snappy, which is in my opinion is less visually pleasing.
5. Drinking Estus is distinctly different, no point in discussing that.
6. Parrying animation is distinctly different. DS's animations is faster, snappier and more pronounced, while ER's is twice as slow at getting to parrying frames and is less "animated".
